Hello, folks! quote:
ORIGINAL: came4U Gods, You don't have to call us "Gods" here, even though some may indeed deserve the appellation! ;-D quote:
ORIGINAL: came4U The man was a dominate? The female hyenna was the dominate? If you add 'figure, species, etc' to those sentences, with further notations,it would be correct. Let me see if I'm reading this right: you are suggesting that the following sentence is grammatically correct? "The man was a dominate figure." Actually, this is still not correct. The proper use of the term in this context is an adjective describing the sort of 'figure' the man presented. A good check for such terms' proper grammar is to use an antonym in the same place/context. For example: "The man was a submit figure." As you can see, this doesn't parse, even in the context you suggested. If one were to use 'dominant' instead, one can make much more sense with the use of the antonym, submissive, as follows: "The man was a submissive figure." Yes, I'm a bit obsessive about proper grammar. I simply consider it a measure of the effort invested in communication. If the person makes a reasonable effort, I will reciprocate in order to understand their statement(s). If the person makes little or no effort to be concise, I too shall make little or no effort to understand their statement(s). Considering that we are interacting in a textual environment, it seems to me that the proper use of said text may be a reasonable expectation. We get what we give. Well wishes, ~Kimveri
