K so to get this WoW thing going...

Two ideas for guild names are currently:
BDSM (simple, gets the point across!)
Chains of Service (probably more pleasing to the general community)

To recap: We have a number of people on Lightbringer already, and are happy to help anyone who wants to reroll/Xfer. As the current person with the most WoW experience, my toon, Miiko, is currently going to fill the GL position. (BTW, we're horde!) We already have permission from the GM's and their superiors to make this guild so long as we follow the same TOS rules as everyone else...Blizz got sued once for canning a guild over a similar theme, so they won't be doing so again.

Feel free to add to this with questions/comments/ideas on guild names. Thanks! =D

What about the guild name  "power exchange"? I worry that "BDSM" still could get it removed - wouldn't it just take one complaint to get it yanked?

How do you promote the existence of the guild in game or in Wow Forums without being blatant about the content?  And how do you screen out minors?  I'm sure others have had this challenge so there must be a pretty effective way to campaign for the right audience.

Why not something less obvious to outsiders, like Horde Service or make it sound like it's a joke and call it Surrender. I actually once thought of creating a guild called Surrender Bunnies, but we named it something generic, like Shadow Syndicate or something dorky like that.

isispisces -> RE: WoW guild-continued from sub thread (8/27/2007 5:24:37 AM)

For now I'm making a holder guild called Inappropriate Content. My toon there is Emabella, so you'll prolly wanna get in touch with me there for invite. We can change the name when/if folks want, but this way at least there's somewhere for us to gather, since folks are starting to move over. As to screening, the best we can really do is openly say that it's an 18+ guild with mature content discussed in guild chat, at least as far as I know. Interested parties can be informed that it's a BDSM guild before being invited. I've seen a number of adult-only guilds on this server...hell, most hardcore raid guilds don't accept minors, hehe.

LOL, personally i dont like wow but i think the idea is creative. Personally give me an M16A4 ACOGX4 with a M203 Grenade launcher attachement and a kevlar vest with +5 protection and im good ;)

deadbluebird -> RE: WoW guild-continued from sub thread (8/29/2007 11:41:14 AM)

well i am downloading the free trial now.. says it should only take about 41 hours... :/

CuriousLord -> RE: WoW guild-continued from sub thread (8/29/2007 5:05:16 PM)

Wait, what?  The WoW guild idea actually got somewhere?  I just assumed no one cared. :P

Ah wells.  Blizzard'd get sued over exposing minors to a sexually-explicit lifestyle if the name isn't.. disecret.  So something subtle's definately on the menu.

Personally, I thought of something like "House [something]", which would've been more Gorean in sentiment I suppose.

CuriousLord -> RE: WoW guild-continued from sub thread (8/29/2007 5:06:34 PM)

If you go to the store, you can get the free trial on DVD (for about $3).  It'll save the DL time.

Fair warning, though.  Either way you do it, there are going to be patches following it.  About three.  And some of them are likely to take a couple hours by themselvess, so.. well, yup.  Just a head's up.

I'm there!  My Lightbringer character is named Leilanni and I have had a few people ask -- so can they contact you or anyone in the guild currently to get invited?  Is it ok if they just said "Akasha sent me!"  :)

Durus -> RE: WoW guild-continued from sub thread (8/30/2007 6:11:27 AM)

I don't suppose anyone would consider age of Conan when it comes out? It, at least, will be an rated "M" game so you wouldn't have to be so secretive. It has to appeal to some goreans! (no offense to goreans)

CuriousLord -> RE: WoW guild-continued from sub thread (8/30/2007 9:09:35 AM)

It's still something to be very careful about.  Subtle on there, too.

As a teen who enjoyed video games, I'd like to assure you that an 'M' rating is hardly even a fraction as hard to get around as an 'R' rating in a movie theater.  Most stores don't even seem to care, and, if you happen to find one that does, a parent/older sibling/etc. could just buy it for you.

Durus -> RE: WoW guild-continued from sub thread (8/30/2007 8:06:12 PM)

It isn't all that important that teens will get in. Take your movie example. If they somehow spliced a "boob" scene into a G movie there would be hell to pay. If some kids sneeks into a theatre and sees a boob then it isn't the responsibilty of the movie producer.

candleTC -> RE: WoW guild-continued from sub thread (8/30/2007 8:19:02 PM)

We have way to many toons on Thorium brotherhood.. there is a guild on there with the name of "shackles and maidens" and there was also one on the alliance that was "Ephemeral Kajira".. the Kajira one didn't last to long, only because people like me and Master would bust them out on their roleplay behavior.. so much to the point that eventually they just disbanded.  Shackles and Maidens however, is still up and running and growing.  They claim to NOT be an ERP guild.. but eh.. i'm not so sure..
Ok, just so you know, i just started reading this thread, so i have no clue if anyone else has even brought this up.  If i am repeating someone else, i'm very sorry :)

FTH ftw!  heh.
~candle aka Luminaah level 70 beastmaster blood elf hunter on Thorium Brotherhood.

TolerableCruelty -> RE: WoW guild-continued from sub thread (8/30/2007 8:19:18 PM)

Pus, level 70 warlock on Thorium Brotherhood lookin for a transfer.... I'd hate to have to reroll again, so if you guys are going to run this on an RP or PVE server, that'd be awesome.

I also own Luminaah irl... on here, her name is candleTC... (I think she's typing up something now, as a matter of fact)

candleTC -> RE: WoW guild-continued from sub thread (8/30/2007 8:24:31 PM)

I was looking at "Age of Conan" just the other day.  It looks pretty good.  We are thinking about "Warhammer" as well.  So, *shrug* iunno what we are gonna do.  We will never be without a game to play.. that's for sure...

angelic -> RE: WoW guild-continued from sub thread (8/30/2007 8:48:32 PM)

ok... i hope someone else comes along before i hit enter to say WTF?????[&:]  This is the very very first time i feel 110 years old.  Could someone please interprete this whole thread for me?  Thanks.

breatheasone -> RE: WoW guild-continued from sub thread (8/30/2007 9:23:47 PM)

Damn Horde!!!..... Hi, i'm Grammy lvl 70 Nightelf priest on Stromrage. You can't miss me...i'm the one that is always dancing naked on fountains, statues and such.....LOL

TolerableCruelty -> RE: WoW guild-continued from sub thread (8/30/2007 9:24:35 PM)

Quick interpretation :

MMORPG - Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game (think in terms of millions of people, online at the same time, playing the same game, all around the world and interacting with one another)

WoW - World of Warcraft (the singlehandedly most popular and highest grossing mmorpg of all time)

AoC - Age of Conan (a mmorpg that has yet to be released, but supposed to be a really good game)

Warhammer Online (yet another mmorpg with much hype that isn't released yet)

NWN 1 and 2 (Neverwinter Nights, 1 and 2 respectively... heard the first one was good, second one sucked..both derailed when WoW was released)

EQ 1 and 2 (Everquest 1 and 2.... heard they were both ok, and derailed by WoW)

I'm sure there are plenty of other games out there... but mostly, WoW is the top dog at the moment.
I personally play a Warlock (My in game character / toon), but have a myriad of alternate characters... priest, paladin, hunter, rogue.

In a nutshell, thats about all I can come off with at the moment, without actually setting you down and showing you the game firsthand. As a side note, once you start playing it... it gets highly addictive. My slave and I have been pretty much totally enthralled by it for over a year and a half, and that gets expensive paying for 2 accounts, 2 expansion packs, and 2 subscription fees every month... especially when we're dead tired of the morons on our server.

If this BDSM /ERP /WTFever guild gets off the ground and rolling... we'll most likely be rolling new toons to see if we mesh with everyone in it, then highly likely transferring our highest level toons to that server to play with them full time.

(Personal suggestion, if you're going to let Doms and Masters in the guild... try not to have too much of a sub/slave name to it... just a hindsight observation)

edited to add : leave it to the Nelfs to get all nekkid and dance on the mailboxes..lol.. For the Horde !!

Could someone please interprete this whole thread for me?

This thread's about "WoW", an acronym for the game "World of Warcraft" (or often just "Warcraft" now).  "WoW" is a computer game.  It's played online in a massive 3-D fantascy world.  Each player has a character that can move around that world in a manner not too different from how people here can walk around Earth.

Players can fight monsters in the game, becoming more powerful as they accumulate victories.  Players can also gather items, fame, fortune etc., all in the game.

The power a player has is primilarily dictated by the player's "level".  All characters begin at level 1 and may progress until level 70 which is the maximum level.  (It's important to note that, unlike in many other games, going to the next level doesn't mean you go to a new part of the world.  Higher level players, being more powerful, normally travel to areas with more powerful monsters to gain greater rewards for slayign them, but level 1 players and level 70 players are still able see eachother and such.  They're still all in the same world.)

A "guild" is a way of players in the game forming a long-term grouping.  Members of a guild can communicate with eachother during playtime, despite being in different parts of the world, and they often work together to achomplish greater feats, such as slaying a monster that no single player could alone.  Guilds can also act as a social network for players.

This thread is about people on CM who play World of Warcraft who want to make a BDSM-themed guild.
