Lots of reasons, NG. Because they also like to watch car crashes, or because they like to use the misery of others to feel better about themselves, or because they enjoy seeing someone on the other side of the socio-political fence bite the dirt, or just because they find the behaviour of their fellow humans fascinating. But you're right, in the grand scheme of things, it isn't a very big deal.
