ORIGINAL: GhitaAmati This topic came up in a few of the "polls and random stupidity" threads recently, and after my post on my cooking rules, I got a few emails on the other side. Most of them thinking my Sir is absolutly absurd and asking why I would put up with it...anyway, I basically ignored the rude comments, but it did get me to thinking on some things. I cant be the only one out there who is given a rather strict set of rules to cook by, although I dont doubt Im the only one on here who follows quite so strict a guideline. Now, I understand there are people who have to cook a specific way because of health reasons, but Im more asking about people who have rules based on just personal preference. What about other "domestic duty" types things, do any of you out there have to follow some pretty absurdly strict rules on any thing else? Ill write out again here my basic cooking rules, and given thats it actually about the ONLY direct rules in my entire relationship, its never really bothered me, but it does make some things rather stressful with 4 kids in a house. I can not use anything that comes pre processed in any way. If it comes in a box, bag, or bottle, I am not allowed to buy it without express permission from him. Now, before you go and say, "cooking from scratch doesnt sound too bad", really take a moment to think how often the average american cook reaches into a pantry for something. ghita~ ~edited to say I actually meant to post this in the "off-topic" section, but I guess it works here too.... It honestly doesn't sound restrictive to me. Thats the way I've always cooked, but thats because I love cooking as a hobby. It works out well for my owner since he has a bunch of food allergies, primarily from items that are pre-made or have fillers in them (like zathan gum) to preserve them for long periods of time. C~ Edited to actually answer your question on cooking restrictions: I don't have hard and fast rules but lots of preferences on his part. The basic one is the issue of foods that contain fillers or artifical sorts of things that he's allergic to. He also doesn't like seafood or a lot of particular vegetables (especially greens, which tend to be a family favorite of mine). He doesn't like soda with aspertame in it and likes poland spring carbonated mandarin orange flavored water to drink (in a pinch regular poland spring water), but doesn't drink local tap water (if we are somewhere that has great well water like Vermont then its not a problem). He doesn't like his food piping hot, but rather somewhere around lukewarm which is always a challenge for me since I like my food piping hot. All of these things (and others) I've just learned over time, he never presented me with a list of things.
