This is a question I ask all who apply to me.

Over the years, whenever I was dating, I've heard a lot of different and interesting stories.

Here's mine:

When I was young, there was a TV program called "I Dream of Jeannie" starring Barbara Eden and Larry Hagman.

Hagman was an astronaut: Major Nelson.

Eden was a Genie.

Jeannie kept insisting that she was Nelson's property, that he was her "master". That she lived to serve him and grant him whatever he wished.

For some reason known only to the vanilla world, Nelson hated the idea and wanted Jeannie to assert herself and be, in essence, a 'liberated' woman (that is to say, as liberated as audiences and TV censors of the '60s would permit).

While the storyline unfolded such that Jeannie ended up more assertive and married Nelson in the end, most of the series was about how much she wanted to help her Master, and how sad she was whenever he wouldn't permit it.

At the time I was too young to know anything about BDSM. But as I look back, I can see that would have been the first time I was exposed to a Master/slave relationship that did not seem inherently evil (for before that, the only knowledge I'd have had of slavery was from American history).

But I can see from the patterns in my life that, in a sense, I am seeking my own Jeannie: eager, willing, playful, happy, loyal, loving, obedient, ever-present, and able to work her own kind of magic.

So I attribute my interest in BDSM to "I Dream of Jeannie". Thank you Sidney Sheldon and Barbara Eden.

Welllllll, as a yout I was pretending Barbies were my "property" and really alive and would do whatever I wanted.

As an adult.........it was a woman that inspired me.

well for me i think it was a combination of the rocky horror picture show and livejournal. i am a huge fan of RHPS and had took note of the BDSM undertones it had, always finding it somewhat nice , ten one day it happened by accident, i was just sitting here on the computer and someone sent me a link to another someones journal , this someone happened to be a collared slave, and her journal.  which was friends only, intregued me, it was friends only, but the picture was so nice i went ahead and friended her. and after being accpted and reading her journal things clicked for me. i realized that this was what i wanted and that i needed some of what she had in the worst way. telling my husband this and asking him to just try things this way took time and patience. but eventually we found our groove and what works for us.

I read The Story of O when I was about 16, in the very early 70's. I see now how fantastically fictionalized that whole story is but at the time I wanted to be O. Then came the 70's and 80's and I was indoctrinated into the 'no woman shall be submissive, ever!' mindset.

Thank goodness for a wonderful partner throughout my 40's who not only inspired me but walked right along side of me as we explored and bought back to the surface those teenaged yearnings. I am so much more comfortable with myself and in my relationships now that I can be who I really am. Is that called being out of the closet? :-)

My first glimpse of BDSM was in New Orleans during Mardi Gras.  I was an ordained lay minister working the streets of the French Quarter, diligently handing out tracts and attempting to save the partiers from a world of debauchery.  While handing someone a tract, I glanced up and happened to spy a group of women walking down one of the darkened allies so prevalent in The Quarter.  They were dressed in corsettes, thigh high boots, and sported whips and floggers at their hip.  I was fascinated.  I asked the person I was handing the tract to if those women were hookers.  He laughed and said no, they were BDSM'ers on their way to a play party.  My informant was all to happy to take my tract and in exchange, enlighten me as to what this BDSM stood for.

It was quite a few years later, after I discovered the internet, that I started to appease my curiosity by doing research into this BDSM thing I'd heard about....the rest is history.

I wasnt so much inspired as I was inducted.  My Mentor and next door neighbor in college saw how much trouble I was having dating men becasue almost every time we would get into some sort of headbutting match over who should do what. She thought I would have better luck with submissive men and she introduced me to a group of lifestylers she knew.  The rest is history.

Yes, I remember I Dream of Jeannie very well. I used to love when they showed the inside of her bottle, all soft and pink and pretty...kind of like a womb. I wouldn't mind be trapped in there for a while as long as I had books and chocolate.

BDSM to me is the play, scene or whatever you like to call it.  It is what I do/participate in to get my rocks off and I am more into the SM aspects of it all.

As a teenager I loved when my boyfriend would tie me up while we were having sex and over the years I often had fantasies about pain and being beaten.  Then about 8 years ago someone shoved me into the wall hard enough to knock the wind out of me and I was instantly turned on.  Finally about 3 years ago I joined a BDSM web site, went into the chat room and the first day met my Lord.  We have been building a relationship ever since and he has taken me farther in pain play than I ever thought I could go and he isn't done with me yet.

If you are asking about why I choose to be slave, the answer is simply because I know of no other way to relate to a primary partner in my life.  To have authority in my relationship is extremely unfulfilling and exhausting for me.  Being his slave fulfills me and anything less than that would be to deny who I am.

Knight's Kyra

p.s. Oh, and chains.... I love chains... the sound... the feel... they get me all gooy inside.  He once did zippers on me and weighted the strings with several chains.  That was so good!!!  Where else am I going to find someone who wants to rip clothespins off of me and then chain me up, if not in the world of BDSM?

Honestly?  Porn.
I remember being young.  13-14 ish and looking at my father's "hidden" stash and always being most interested in the BDSM stories.  then later at 16-17 when we got the internet I looked and explored more about it and a whole new world opened up for me.  The rest, as they say, is history.   :)

My earliest inspirations, I think, were either derived from Dick Tracy or Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, which dates how old (or not so much!) I am quite a bit. I'm vague as to which, since I'm not sure when I would have seen Indiana Jones and have been old enough to remember it, since it was released the year I was born.

In the former, if I recall correctly, I remember a scene where a woman had mischeviously handcuffed a partner to a bed, and kind of just let him hang out there. Or at least, that's what I remember... and I could have the wrong movie, I've not seen it since the '90's.  My young, impressionable thoughts were "Hey that's kinda neato!"

I had gotten a set of ninja turtle trick hand cuffs some years later that I subjected all of the neighborhood little boys and girls to. :)

For the second reference, I just remember having dreams akin to the scene where the movie's heroine was strapped into a cage (to be sacrificed to some heathen god, to boot!).... and thinking "Oh my god! That's terrible! Yet... strangely... appealing." o.O

So, those were my earliest inspirations or insights into my kinky inclinations.

My inspiration for becoming involved in the community came much later in life (well, on a relative timeline anyway, couple years ago now), and is much more personal. Lets just say I had a rather sobering experience that was great inspiration to want to be as familiar as possible with exactly who and what I was dealing with on an indepth level. That is a decision the I suspect I will never regret. :)

What inspired me to enter the world of BDSM?  To be honest I did not know it existed until 7+ years ago!!  *Shrugs* Just being honest here!

I remember chatting to my mother about sex, her chin dropped on the floor and her words where "You hear about things like that, but you dont think it happens in your own family"

I thought everyone tied their bloke to the bed (I even used waist ties from dressing gowns tied together with ties or anything, under the mattress, what ever was at hand), jumped on top and put a hand over their nose and mouth!!!!

Ok we are talking about a story that is about 10 years old here.  Now I have found out I am not into sex but bondage and yet I am still finding out about myself, I love being me.

You know, this might explain why Bondage Barbies were auctioned off at play parties so quickly and at such high prices.  I was honestly surprised at how popular those deliciously bound Barbies were.
