I don't think you have much to worry about. Right before last Halloween, I made a decision to come out as a furry, and started wearing a LARGE (better than two inches wide) collar all the time. The only time I don't wear it is at work. Once I started making restraints and my own toys back in January, I made another collar for myself with a locking buckle. I've had about 6 people in the vanilla world (and I live in an old-folks town) ask me about it, and a couple of them were teasing me about m'lady having to lock her "dawg" (that's what they said) away to keep him out of trouble. Most of the others just read the tag and go on. I'm actually flattered when someone asks about my collar. I voulentarily put it on, but I've given myself to her so many times it may as well be permanent. I find the inquiry about it more polite than stares. I had a simmilar fear when I first put it on, but an entire weekend passed with about 800 Witches and pagans in Collumbus OH at a major hotel, and no one, from the staff, to the guests to the people in the airport to the clerks in the convienience store, said anything to me. I was kinda at a loss. Just wear it. Act as though it's a necklace. Be proud of it, don't try to hide it. You only get ridicule when you are ashamed or have something to hide. Wear it openly and proudly, and I'll be willing to bet that NO ONE even mentions it.
