Lennox has more range than Carpenter but Carpenter is one of those classic "untouchables" of her time. A locked in classic! Lennox seems more underground and much less mainstreamed as Carpenter and a poll will show that. Amazing that my mother still has some of The Carpenters and Carole Kings vinyl albums in mint condition. What sells me on Lennox is that piercing highness she delivers on such tunes as "No More I Love Yous" and "Love Song For A Vampire" I swear I feel I am hearing an angels voice. Very under-rated and under-appreciated singer. Stevie Nicks may have the sexier voice to me, but Annie has the most EROTIC voice I ever heard. Deliciously evil like she wears a strapon and ready to go with it 24/7 and 365. Annie Lennox is the only female voice that gives me goosebumps every time I hear her sweet voice.

I couldn't bring myself to use the words 'greatest female vocalist' and most of these names in the same sentence. Great entertainers, pleasing voices, good looking bodies and faces, trick voices, popular celebrities for sure, and a lot of them, I thoroughly enjoy their body of work....but virtuoso command of their instruments? Naaahh.
