I've made a few good contacts at Alt. There are some very real, very good people there. However, there are a few serious problems with Alt that have made me a CollarMe convert. 1. Alt operators find every way they can to squeeze more money out of you, even to the point of reducing the access of membership classes, to force you to upgrade if you want to be able to do the things you're used to doing. As a male, I can hardly do anything with a free membership. A premium membership is needed simply to view other members' profiles. 2. The Alt site operators spend tons of time fooling around with the cosmetics of the webpages, giving different looks and crap like that, but very little time fixing bugs and making searches and other features more useful. 3. There are TONS of bogus and extremely outdated profiles on the site. Since Alt evidently leaves profiles up indefinitely, there are profiles which haven't been active for several years. I'm sure they do this because it gives the impression that they have many more active members than they really do. This relates to 1. above. 4. They have no decent forums to speak of. Their "magazine" is crap. It's supposed to be full of "articles" on various topics, but it's really nothing more than a handful of people posting poorly-written stories and fantasies of their own. The "interest groups" aren't much better. All they're after is volume, not quality; frequency of posting is rewarded, no matter how trivial and infantile the posts are. I got sick of the foolish banter almost immediately. Bondage.com has much better discussion groups than Alt, but many of them aren't very active. When I first discovered CollarMe, I thought it was a rather simplistic copy-cat version of Alt and Bondage.com. That was mainly because the search functions were so poor. Now that I've been here a while, I see that the forums are very good, and it seems that there is a much higher percentage of REAL people here. I'm beginning to get addicted to CollarMe.
