Blackstar911 -> Anyone know about alt.com? (9/3/2007 11:03:51 PM)

Does anyone know of any other totally free bdsm sites?  How about alt.com?  I am sick and tired of signing up to sites that say free and then boom...whats free is of little use

michaelOfGeorgia -> RE: Anyone know about alt.com? (9/3/2007 11:07:13 PM)

well, it would be a great place, if one were able to reply to emails received, free of charge. unfortunately. one must pay to respond.

fungasm -> RE: Anyone know about alt.com? (9/3/2007 11:23:57 PM)

There are four types of bdsm/kink sites that I have found:

Larger, pay sites (alt/adult friend finder/bondage).  These sites charge for membership.

Smaller sites with a specific orientation:  orgasm denial, max fisch, milovana, etc.  These sites are free, but they cater only to a small segment of the population and community.

Link sites.  There are many, many sites which have listings of links (most porn) oriented.

Personality Sites.  These are sites that feature one person, group or personality. Like sites for a specific mistress, service, or other construct.  While they can be very helpful, such as the SOJ site- there is little in the way of community.

When it comes to the depth of humans who are into this type of thing- CollarMe is the best I've found... and I've looked.

This is the most user-friendly site for people with our interests.  Alt, and Bondage, really seem to be more about the $ than anything else.

I suspect CM adopted a better business plan, which calls for sacrificing piddly transaction charges for big ad revenues.

... and how do you do that?  Provide a free site that people flock to.

Alt.com -is- free to a degree-unless you pay you can't read profiles but generally it's ok. Depends what you want out of the service, and with all things in life you get what you pay for.

Oh, it's worse than that.  When i was recently there, i had to pay to read emails.  Then if Y/you emailed a 'standard' member they couldn't read Y/your email a lot of times unless Y/you paid for a feature called 'standard members contact.'   $$$  i didn't give them one dime, and tried to tell folks about this place through the message boards.  But they got that place locked down so tight that even the messages people post have to get read by the staff before they actually get posted--another way to filter attempts to exchange contact info i think.  i honestly thought about paying them, but with some of the more recent changes it simply wasn't worth it.

Oh, and bondage used to be free.  It's really too small to charge.  They nearly put that site under i think.

i hope this place stays the way it is.  i really like it here, and have actually met a real person from here...

Then you won't be happy with Alt.com.

Twicehappy2x -> RE: Anyone know about alt.com? (9/4/2007 4:07:22 AM)

ALT is really a pay site and i never cared for it at all.

curvyslavegirl -> RE: Anyone know about alt.com? (9/4/2007 4:16:18 AM)

I've had only horrible experience with alt.com.
They tend to be more of a quick hook up sort of place.
Toward the end of my time there I attempted to do their "verified member" status and got a nasty email from an administrator saying that my drivers license "didn't look real" and that I must be a fake. I cancelled my account and called a higher manager to complain. She just laughed and said that they do that all the time. Screw that!

They also have a tendency to censor emails and have auto feature that throw things into the "spam" bin if their autosystem detects anything that looks like contact info within a certain number of communications, even if you're a paying member. I had a friend get their email tossed because he wrote "I saw your other profile on collarme".
Avoid them like the plague!

Me either..

ryssa -> RE: Anyone know about alt.com? (9/4/2007 4:21:37 AM)

They also would not do anything to the person who stole my picture and opened a profile using it, even after writing to them several times and offering
proof of who I was...the profile is still there, and so is my picture

strappie051234 -> RE: Anyone know about alt.com? (9/4/2007 4:41:49 AM)

well from my experience from alt(i've been a member on there for over a year)  i have actually met some really nice people from there.  i met my Domme from there and we spoke for several months before we moved in together....Meeting before hand was kinda a pain because She lived in Kingman.   But besides that i know a bunch of people from that site real time and they have munches n coffees like every week.

Oh btw, i am not a paying member and i can send and receive emails all the time.   One just has to becareful about the way they are sending contact info.  But other than that if you're able to get to know people via chatrooms n what not it isnt a useless site ;)

well thats just my two cents...take it or leave it

ryssa -> RE: Anyone know about alt.com? (9/4/2007 4:54:37 AM)

Yeah you can recieve emails from anyone who pays, but you can't send emails to anyone unless they've contacted you first, you can only send replies...and you can't even view the profiles of those who email you, unless they've attached a copy of their profile to the email they sent you...though, maybe that's all changed since I've stopped going there

RRafe -> RE: Anyone know about alt.com? (9/4/2007 6:28:35 AM)

It's lame.

I'll pay for a bcom membership.

Alumbrado -> RE: Anyone know about alt.com? (9/4/2007 6:35:46 AM)

I thought bcom was part of Alt?

RRafe -> RE: Anyone know about alt.com? (9/4/2007 6:54:29 AM)

Don't know-but it has features actually worth paying for-alt is stupid.

LadyPact -> RE: Anyone know about alt.com? (9/4/2007 7:15:35 AM)

My experience with alt has been very good to date.

From the input received so far, I won't disagree with it, as much of it is true.  However, females and couples usually can do better with certain priviledges.  Viewing profiles and sending/receiving messages can be done without being a paying member, depending on how many people look at your profile within a 24 hour period.  A standard member with a certain number of views can innitiate 10 emails a day.

One advantage alt does have is chatting.  I have never been able to chat in the rooms here (bad Java was an issue when I tried --- long story) so I do My chatting there.  I have actually met more people from alt than CM  What was said about the local munches and whatnot, I have certainly found to be true.

CM is more user friendly for lifestyle discussion.  If a person is actually looking to learn anything, CM is by far the better choice.

HotFaerieMama -> RE: Anyone know about alt.com? (9/4/2007 8:42:22 AM)

i like alt.. granted viewing emails and profiles is a bitch.. but its great for chatting imo.. i'm always over there chatting.. .. but as far as contacting people and emailing.. CM is much better.. and i love message boards..
