I adore leather, love leather, can't get enough leather.  A friend and I went into a leather shop and spent a happy hour rubbing splits against our cheeks, stroking and smelling.  And walked out dripping.

I'm a leather worker-mostly doing bondage gear. It's handy-since I can do things you cannot generally buy commercially.

There's something about the look, the smell, the texture. The softness,or the hardness and strength. While rope is ok..I use it more for.....esthectics than to play-takes a long time to put on and off.

Do you like leather?

Why?

I recall many years ago, a woman I dated casually had gotten a full leather trench coat. It smelled fantastic.  Today, I can barely smell leather, even though i am not around it that often. I cant believe I've grown accustomed to the smell of fresh leather, but it seems to be the case.

Leather on women is always awesome.   Gay men almost always look good wearing leather.  It is unusual for a straight man to look cool in leather. I personally know only one or two in a world full of weekend warrior biker types that can pull off the look.  Sorry if that makes waves, but thats how I see it.

Since I am straight, I dont have that problem, I get to check out all the ladies wearing fringed chaps and get to make fun of the men who do......

Usually due to the fact that gays actually have waists. And don't dress baggy.

i was raised on a horse farm and even as a child would hide in the tack room just to smell the leather. i am now a leather artist doing some bondage gear and of course about a million handmade original design purses at Christmas time. i mostly enjoy carving designs into leather, (celtic knots are my speciality) Just something about being hat close to that base a smell drives me wild. And good lawd don't get me started about leather wear.

Indeed, the old cowboy lariats were often made of it.

Frightfully expensive though.

*Starts measuring and cutting some nylon rope for a session next week.*

Why I too enjoy making things of leather! Small , decorative pretties rather than utilitarian hardware.  ( Is it nature or nurture?)

I know the time and place my leather fetish formed.

As a teen, underaged but quite developed (and a nervy little brat as well) I snuck out to local rock n' roll clubs.  Live bands, too many Long Island Iced Teas, dancing like crazy ..until last call... ! ...  it when then my fetish crystalized, I do think.

Speakers on full, too loud to talk - boys found anyway. What to do but drink and kiss?   Oh those boys.. fresh and young, but rough and ready. Always in leather. Those classic motorcyle jackets always so hot.  I do recall... over the scent of mold and stale beer... overwhelming my senses as I experienced my first caresses....

the strong, dark, animal fragrance of vibrant testosterone, cheap cologne and most importantly - LEATHER.

Best post I have read here in a long time.
And yes, I love leather too.  The smell- o, the warm, happy, comfortable smell of leather.  The feel of it as it slides over one's skin.  Or the sting or SLAP of it...  Yummy stuff all the way around.

Yes, I have made it in the past, and if I ever get back into production, I'll make much more of it.

After reading the editions to this thread the other day I was reminded of an episode in a very high end furniture store a few years ago. I didn't have time to share it then but I have to tell you all about it now so you can laugh at me, with me.

I was traveling with some female friends, mostly lesbian but all pretty damned vanilla. We were taking a weekend trip to see a concert and discovered we were going through a town that has this rather famous store in it. Most of us had always wanted to go there and none of us had been. So we made sure we had time to spend a few hours there.

Well, they had a special section of high end leather furniture...... OMG this batich was in pure heaven. I love high end home furnishings and top that off with a huge room of all leather. Did I die and go to heaven? There I was wandering around, fondling all the good when a light came down from the heavens and a choir of angels began singing. There in the centre of my universe was the most beautiful gorgeous devine red leather sofa in the whole universe. I walked as if in a trance, floating across the floor, the sea of brown, black, blue sofas and chairs, other human entities, small children.......parting in front of me. Such beauty such decadence. I stood before it, afraid to touch such perfection. One trembling hand reaching out to gingerly caress. yes, it was beyond soft. Glowing a deep rich red. I know people were speaking to me but my brain was on overload and I didn't register a word. Down, I sank into it's ruby cushions. Oh yesssssss, it must be mine.

Finally through my leather lust fog I heard a voice "Good god LeeAnn, did you SEE the price of this thing?" Which was then followed by a set of numbers that sent my heart plummeting. It was more than my last new car.

I could feel my eyes begin to well up. The burn of unshed tears. Carefully I rose and stepped away, not wanting to mar such perfection with an errant salty tear. Backing blindly, my eyes never leaving her. My crimson beauty, such a sad parting. Slowly, every so slowly I walked away.......... my heart filled with unrequited love and yearning. Then I turned back and cried, "Someday!! Someday I will come and find you! You will be mine!"

There are plenty of substitutes that suit my needs. I don't need to harm animals in order to harm people.
