Taking my roommate Matt to my tailor to get him dressed for work. And I had to give him a bit of warning that Rick (the tailor) will probably "grope" him a bit as he "checks for dress fit" (no, he's a pro - but most guys aren't used to that level of contact with anothher man)... And knowing that Rick loves his job because he likes hot guys in well-fitted suits to top him got me thinking:

--How common is this? Is it something that you'd say fits the usual formula of a clothing paraphilia?

--Are there specific details associated with your attraction to the suit-wearer? Specific colors, labels, cut, styling details?

--Most controversial: if the is your fetish, should it be considered "fetish wear" by others?

I kind of like the idea of fetish-wear that is so work appropriate (for me anyways).

Oh, agreed. In my case, I know that the closest I get to a true paraphilia involves a woman in a rather conservative, properly fitted dress suit... but with a run in her hose. I don't know - it just works for me.

Answering my own questions:
  • paraphilia? not for me: I'm fully functional without this. It's just something that tends to get me going rather quickly.
  • not really any specifics, but in fantasies along this line the skirt is approximately knee length and definitely not involving trousers. Why else would she be wearing hose?
  • Personally, I take a very wide view of what it or is not fetish-wear. I say yes.

Got some input from my tailor. Since he didn't want to set up an account on CM for personal reasons, I just interviewed him:

"I like seeing a well-dressed man - who doesn't? I think it's more about the implications for me: this is a man worthy of respect, of power in people's lives. And they want me."

What about power suits as a kink?

"Not as much a kink or fetish as a preference. You're an attractive man dressed as you are, but I prefer the idea of sneaking off to a secluded corner for a quick fuck..."

That being said, what do you think about the gloryholing Sen. Craig was shopping for... Does that sort of thing mirror the fantasies you have?

"Somewhat. The idea of personal power is attractive. The methodology is not so much - disease is far too rampant and I'm not so old as to be so desperate as those actions. But coming on to someone you see in the hallways, without words being exchanged, casual contact while washing up... That is part of it. Again, though, it's not the clothing but the context for me."

Any specifics of what you like to see?

"Obviously, if I'm looking at the suit, I'm taking some notes. Is it a proper bespoke, or is it off the rack? Good suit, or rather cheap? I prefer to see the more tailored suit to a cheap off-the-rack one: it fits the fantasy better. Tend to respond better with the more conservative colors: near-black charcoal grey, nearly-black navy blues... Reagan brown, not at all though. Even in darker settings, I still think it looks like Sears' clearance rack. And we've discussed why black is an inappropriate color for daytime wear... In general, I want to see the man well put together rater than any specific detail. ... <a discussion of what that means - lots of technical details omitted> Oh, I prefer a more classic look to a more modern one. And I definitely make sure I check out his shoes."

You've been to <play party series in Indianapolis>. If someone showed up in a suit as you describe, would you view them as ready to play?

"Maybe. It really depends. I'd be inclined to say no for the most part... it's a bit too specific of a fantasy."

A suit is my favourite dress for sm-parties. I'm not much into leather and my girlsfriend loves me in a suit. Should be acknowlegded as fetish wear? Well, I appreciate those parties that understand that rope lover in a suit is guest that adds to athmosfere as much as a leather clad whipper.

I love it when a man shows up to the dungeon in a crisp business suit.  "The man" ya know...then I get to take him down a peg or two...muss up his perfection. yuuummmy.

I went to a wedding today. I did not wear my suit jacket, it was too dam hot today. Several people did not wear a jacket like me, so I was not the only one.

I also think a man in a freshly ironed button up collared shirt is very attractive

Some men look a bit awkward in a suit where others wear them oh so very well.
Be confident... it is yummy.

Bravo!!
I find a man in a suit much more attractive than leather.
I dunno why...
edited to add:  Kilts too.   for some reason a Scotsman in a Kilt.... A great Kilt even... makes my day.

I can see how a man in a perfectly tailored suit would get you going. My husband looked his best on our wedding day in his first proper suit. Just thinking about it now...rawr! But it's not a fetish, just damn attractive.

Though kilts - kilts would *have* to be a fetish, no?

Especially for me, being Truly Irish... a definite hard limit.

A good wardrobe of suits Mmmmm

Bonus points if he goes for custom fit suits at a good Italian tailor.

I'd never be with a guy who dresses like a shlump in public.

Kilts are just fun.

And what does being "Truly Irish" have to do with a hard limit? You confuzzle me again, sir.

Anyway, suits = hawt. Not a fetish, but definitely hot.

Some brilliant git decided that Kilt and Celt were actually the same word, so therefore the Irish wore kilts... mercifully, this is often seen as the hideous lie that it is to support the claims of the Fennian hordes that they belong in Ulster. I agree - they need to stay in Ulster and stop polluting the reputations of others...

And being Truly Irish is much like being a True Scotsman or a Twue Dom...

Back to suits please, thankyouverymuch

<wow. I can't believe I just dropped mad rhetorical science in the midst of a fashion thread...>
