2 pets:
Mouse - blond cocker spaniel - my baby - 12yrs old now.
ShadowMan - tuxedo kitty, 11yrs old - he followed Mouse and I around when I would take her for a walk at night; and decided to move in since we didn't have a resident Dom. [;)]

... My kitty is driving me insane <snip> ...  It is the only time she makes noise (at night), starting around 1:30am she begins to howl. Not meow but actually howl, it starts out as a low sound then grows louder and louder as it gains in pitch. Scary howling lol. <snip> She is nearly 20 years old so I worry about any kind of discipline.

Camille,
She may be experiencing feline dementia, this does happen with older cats. You may wish to check with your Vet to see what recommendations he/she might offer.

I saw something about this on Animal Planet's Barking Mad. I wish I could remember the specifics of the program <sigh>, but there were suggestions that the animal behaviorist offered that seemed to help the cat who exhibited behavior similar your cat.

Best of luck with your beloved kitty. [:)]

Oh I love this thread...

I have two giant 16 year old boy cats both rescues.  My parents call them their grandcats since they've given up on me giving them any grandkids.

Wendell  is a cross eyed, pin headed, barrel bellied, tippy toe walking, constanting talking, extra fluffy and soft blue tabby 19 pounds very long legs.  He has regular kitten fits that send him running and cavorting through the house daily even at his age.

Milo is a snow paw sumo wrestler doggy cat.  He comes when you call him by name.  He snuggles up when you say "snuggle".  He has the bluest eyes. He rarely speaks and when he does it is because he has something important to say. He likes to lay on my belly and stare into my eyes. He wieghts 21 pounds.

Average cat is about 8 pounds - and these guys are not fat just giants.

I actually turned down a job offer this year because I would not be able to work out my home.  The idea of not having a cat snuggled up to me as I work just does not cut it. And then there are the old folks who need care too.
