this might be a civil complaint and not a criminal complaint.

She hasn't been fined anything yet.  The $1000 was to bond out of jail.  She probably went through a bondsman, so it cost her around $100.  She is going to have to hire a lawyer if she wants to fight this, and that is going to cost her about $1000.  If she is lucky, a good lawyer in her town will take this pro bono.  What this police officer did was petty and foolish.  I could see this as a valid arrest if the girl did it on purpose just out of spite for the police.  But she didn't; it was an accident. 


On a positive note, if the draft gets reinstituted, she was just given a get out of Iraq free card.

She will sit on the Group W bench.  She will be asked if she is moral enough to kill men, women, and children after being arrested for salting food.  Then she can refuse to sign the form and go home.

As the song says, you can get anything you want at Alice's Restaurant.

Status: offline 		Plain and simply stupid, accidents happen and if you are such a pig (pun not intended at all) that you don't notice that your food is making you ill from salt as you eat it, you deserve to be sick.

Meh, we agree to the effect that it shouldn't have gone to court.  That's why I'm saying a small fine would be more appropriate.  The only thing I'm wondering if we disagree at is if you think nothing at all should have been done?

He could have asked for a refund, another meal, not gone back.  Lots of options other than showing he was petty.  Hopefully the district attorney will have a brain and toss this.  BTW, it couldn't have made him too sick if he could bring himself back and start questioning people.  I would like to see where he went to a doctor.

Status: offline 		I'm afraid the article doesn't give much in the way of those details.  Perhaps unavailable, or withheld intentionally?  In any case, you do not feel that the girl did something wrong in selling a burger that she had spilt salt on?

Bull, who has worked at the restaurant for five months, said she did not know a police officer had ordered the burger because she could not see the drive-through window from her work area."

I don't think she did anything wrong actually. Her manager made the call to keep using the meat. Plus she was on her break at the time of the sale.

So, she accidently spilled salt on the meat. She told her supervisor, who made the decision to try and wipe off the salt rather than throw the burgers away.....and you think that the person who accidently spilled salt should be fined?

If anything, it's the supervisor who should be fined, he/she made the choice to save money by serving the burgers.
