-Eatting a lot of light food.  (And I don't mean "a lot" as just "mostly".  I can eat tons and still lose weight- just need to keep decent choices in mind.  Not that everything has to be "fat free", just not like a gallon of icecream.)
-Lots of excerise.

I've always been in favor of muscle building as a mechanism to lose weight.  Building the muscles burns fat, then the muscles, just by whatever usage they may get, continue to burn muscle.  If you don't keep up the weight training or so, you'll likely lose the muscle.  But the fat will be gone and you can start eatting normally again.  If it pops up again, then you can just weight train, and the muscle will come back faster each time you do this (since the muscles seem to be prone to learn to grow).

Still, I started this sort of thing when I was eighteen.  And I'm male.  So.. I guess I'm kind of a bottomless pit of high metabolism anyhow, so I'm not sure how well it may work for other demographics.

You won't lose weight long term if you diet, you need to change your life style. Cut out the crap and eat fresh produce, eat more fish and less meat and sell you car and buy a bike or if your car is essential, only use it for essential journeys and walk or bike the rest of the time. You will find you will then lose weight and still be able to have the odd bit of comfort food (if you don't go over the top).

Hello~

Although there are lots of "diets" in the end they all come down to the very same thing.   A pound is equal to 3500 calories.   You lose a pound for every 3500 calories you burn - so either exercise or cut your calorie consumption or ideally both.

As has been stated, it is really about a change in your lifestyle... simply walking, taking the stairs, parking further away all are painless ways to up your activity level.

Writing down everything you eat will give you a great idea of what your daily caloric intake is and if you track your exercise you can get a great idea of how you are doing.   There are several places on line where you can monitor both and if not a simple excel spreadsheet also works.

Best of luck to you.

The only time I've EVER lost weight was when I was psycho calorie counting.  It's hard work, not only in food choice, but it keeping track, but it worked while I did it.  I just lost the motivation.

Exercise.  Being active. Building muscle.  Diets just don't work long-term.  Everytime you reduce your intake, or alter it, your body will eventually adapt to it and will work to fill those fat cells right back up, and then some.  Activity and burning calories is the only thing that will keep weight off permanently.

I am the world's worst dieter. If I don't see fast results, I get discouraged quickly, and I am not all that concerned with how healthy it is, as long as I get quick results (I know this is bad for me, too. I just hate long-term dieting).

Which is why I usually start any long-term (longer than 2 weeks, say) diet with a "juice fast".

Jusice Fast: Just drink 4-6 oz. of fruit juice (orange, pineapple, apple, whatever appeals to you), 4-6 times day, for 2 days - I usually lost about 5 pounds this way, right off the bat. Then I feel "prepped" to stick with anything more long-term, because I've already seen some immediate results - usually a loss of about 5 pounds in 2 days.

For long-term (like 2 weeks to a month, or longer) dieting, I will be more sensible, but not cut out all the fun. I usually drink Slim-Fast for 1 meal a day (sometimes 2), and eat grilled fish or chicken (4-8 oz), plus a green salad w/to,matoes and diet dressing, and  1-2 cups of green veggies (beans, peas) for dinner. Sometimes I will eat a Lean Cuisine dinner or Weight Watchers - they're not bad. I also like Weight Watchers frozen desserts.

If I increase my exercise to an extra 1/2 hour walk per day (I already do a half hour w/my dogs each day), I will usually take off 10-15 pounds by doing this for 3 weeks. Right now, I also try to do an aerobic workout (I have on a DVD) for 1 hour, 3-4 times a week.

Some of the diet soft drinks (particularly Crystal Light) can give me a "full" feeling in-between meals, or if I start to get hungry.

Make sure you are taking a daily multi-vitamin.

Tell yourself you are thin and beautiful, and visualize how you want to look at he end of your diet. Keep this image in the fore-front of your mind.Sounds corny, but IMO this helps in sticking with it.

Dont' beat yourself up if you slip off  it, for some reason - just get right back on it, and pretend the slip never happened.

I have never, ever liked diets, either (at all). I consider them a necessary evil, but - you can do this!

Good luck.

- Susan

Portion control.
Several small meals thoughout the day (meals- not junk/snacks).
More veggies and fresh fruits, etc. than processed or fat/sugar/sodium laden foods.
Water instead of sodas.

Eat local vegetables and produce, what's seasonal and as close to the natural form as possible. Cut out the white flour. Say NO to high fructose corn syrup and go for a walk every day.
Don't eat the packaged low fat garbage. It will kill you. Don't eat a bunch of nutri-sweet. It will also kill you.
Just my .02, Im not a nutritionist.

Greetings
Exercise, eating healthy choices both at meals and for snacks.
Three basic meals a day with at least two snack meals thrown in, no caffeine, no sugary drinks, no alcohol.
I could go on, but really, everyone’s body is different. What works for me would not work for another.
Your best bet is to go to a professional nutrionalist or your doctor let them help to start a plan for you.

Just be aware most juices have tons of sugar, tons of calories, and  the two main ingrediants are high fructose, and corn syroup, two more forms of sugar, and two largest forms my dr and dietician said not to have. Also after a while you need to change up your exercise routine, do more things diffrent things, because as you get used to say running an hour a day, then pretty soon it's not as effective any more.

The diatician in my weight loss meeting suggested after you're used to something maybe do less of something more intense, like 30 minutes of intense work out instead of an hour of something less intense

Water..................LOTS of Water...........it's the secret.

Of course, eating healthier and no matter what kind of FAD is out there, no matter what kind of PILL is out there, no matter what new SURGERY they come up with.   If you don't stay active, if you don't change the way you eat......nothing will work forever.

I am living proof that none of the crap stuff above has worked.  Once i got it through my thick skull that i had to stay active, eat healthier and gadz!  what i found out about water.......drinkdrinkdrinkdrink water is your friend!!!

ohhhh yeahhhhhhhh.........and don't kick yourself in the ass if you falter.  Get back up, brush yourself off and start!

Good luck!

Great question (for me at this time)  I had a doctor visit and when they weighed me, I had hit an all time high without realizing it. Even thought over the past year I had been trying to loose and my doctor finally said "it has to be genetic", I refused to accept it all.  I've dumped 13 pounds slowly over the last two months since that visit.

I did it with portion control and self control.  I accidentally found a benefit of a pre-assembled meals service (*ntrees *ade Easy). It's not dietetic, it's simply suppers that you choose from their menu, they assemble it and you take it home and cook it up.

My main bug a boo was in the preparation (chopping-measuring-blending).  I can make a full meal for my husband and I in 10 minutes now.  I cut way back on red meat and sweets and am having success.

yes- dont buy junk food. if it is around the house i will eat it.

one HUGE thing. i dont eat out of "nervousness" or boredom.

also i CHUG water all day long.
water will flush the toxins and poisens.

then have vegatables fresh to munch on. you can munch till you drop on vegies and not effect your weight..

i actually have soda for guests here that is spoiling as all i drink is water, coffee, oj, milk.
i can have a coffee for a soda. coffee wins hands down.

LOL- many junk foods have MSG or a flavor enhancer- so you eat for the chemical pleasure and not becuse you are actually hungry.

the food and drug industry are as one. so they can care lest if you need medication- in fact it is all preplanned.  i know many on liiptor- ect,

As mentioned before - Portion control and frequent meals is the key. Plus a lot of water.

If you're completely insain you could try DNP (2,4-Dinitrophenol) but I wouldn't go that route unless it's worth the chance blindness or death.  But people are doing it and losing 1 1/2 pounds a day on it. But seriously it can kill you. I wouldn't recommend it and I'm only putting it out there for informational purposes.

three meals a day, lots of water (agreeing with smilezz, it's the secret), lots of vegetables and varied food (variation = quality = enjoyment) and most assuredly enjoying my food. Being ashamed of eating is a sure and psychological way to make me gain weight (by eating more/or to jump over a meal).
sugar is death for me (way of talking). I take splenda
