SusanofO -> ForThose who have lost a pet - The Rainbow Bridge (9/17/2007 3:51:52 AM)

This will make you cry - but it's a good (and maybe helpful) thing to be able to see. Just thought I'd post it for those who have lost a beloved pet.

http://www.indigo.org/rainbowbridge_ver2.html

God bless all of you - and thanks for the support re: The recent severe illness, due to lymphatic cancer, of my beloved pet Beagle, Oscar. Your support helped me tremendously.

Oscar entered "Rainbow Bridge" territory at about 2:30a.m. this morning, and his suffering has ended.  I am not expecting more tears or sympathy (for me, or for Oscar) - ya'll have been plenty supportive, and I really appreciated it. I am slowly reconciling myself to the fact that he is gone.

BUT - I did want to pass this on, in case ya'll know anyone else who could use it.

I think it's beautiful, and I found it very comforting.  *I also found it ironic there is a Beagle in it, toward the end, who looks a lot like Oscar (must be one of those "Guardian angel" things, I guess).

Just wanted to pass it on. And thanks again, people.

- Susan

I gather that your beloved animal companion has passed on. May the god of the dead reward him for his accomplishments. I am sorry for your loss.

SusanofO -> RE: ForThose who have lost a pet - The Rainbow Bridge (9/17/2007 4:05:52 AM)

Thanks, Rule. Yes, Oscar died while I was petting him this morning, at about 2:30a.m., as I lay by his side. I am very grateful that I was able to be there for him, at that moment.

Today, I am taking his body to a local animal crematorium - and within a few days, I will have a permanent memento of his sweet, and unforgettably memorable prescence in my life.

As soon as i saw this thread my heart sank for you. i'm glad that you were able to be with him in his last hours, and that he's now at peace. It sounds like you're doing well in remembering the good times you shared rather than focusing on the loss. Best wishes to you.

You have my sympathies.  I can see from your posts that Oscar was very much loved and had the great fortune to be in the presence of a great affection at his passing.

You are in my thoughts this day.

camille65 -> RE: ForThose who have lost a pet - The Rainbow Bridge (9/17/2007 6:04:24 AM)

Reading about the collage you plan to make made me realise I need to take a bunch of pics.
My barney-cat is 20 years old and I only have baby pics of her. Yes, her..barney-cat is a girlie cat.

SusanofO -> RE: ForThose who have lost a pet - The Rainbow Bridge (9/17/2007 6:05:36 AM)

celticlord2112: Yes, he was very much beloved, and he had a great life, for a doggie: Snacks, lots of affection, plenty of walks and rides in the car, and all the little kids in the neighborhood loved Oscar. Thanks for the kind words.

camille65: Yes, I didn't have many either, and someone suggested the collage idea here last week (and it's a good one, too) - and I managed to take just a few more yesterday (glad I did). it will be a nice memento to have.

To anyone: I am off to the animal crematorium (at the Humane Society). I cannot leave him in the room here all day in his present condition. But I will return, later. Thanks again so much for all of your your support. It is much appreciated.

Susan, sorry to hear the loss of your pet.  I put my dog to sleep in December.  I know what you are going through and the poem the rainbow bridge was given to me by a friend.  It made me so sad when I read it that day. Couldn't read the whole poem without crying.   But today when I read it, it makes me smile because I know my dog was loved and had a great life.

I am glad you were together at home. To me it is much more peacful and natural than in a clinic.

SusanofO -> RE: ForThose who have lost a pet - The Rainbow Bridge (9/17/2007 6:13:34 AM)

divi and firmobeisance: Thanks so much, I appreciate the kind words. **My sympathy on the loss of your pets, too.

I have a beagle that is getting older and the thought of losing her kills me. I have another dog, a cat and some horses. I love my animals dearly and am sorry for your loss.

That video made me ball like a baby.

SusanofO -> RE: ForThose who have lost a pet - The Rainbow Bridge (9/17/2007 11:27:11 AM)

Thanks. I just got back from the pet Crematorium. In 3-5 days they will call me, and I can go pick up a wooden box with his name on the front, and his ashes will be inside, so in a way, Oscar can still be with me. I kept his collar and tags. It was harder than I thought it would be. I am going to take a nap now. Thank you again, people, for the kind support.

Susan, my condolances on the loss of your beloved Oscar.
You did they right thing by him and it sounds like he passed peacefully and with much love!
Think of all the happy memories you'll have of him!

Thanks popeye.

sigh, i got a card with a slightly shorter, modified version of that poem on it when my rabbit was put down from a friend of mine. i cried then like a little baby and im crying now again; it is just NOT fair that there were two pictures of a dog and a cat that looked EXACTLY like both of mine. i honestly didnt want to be reminded that my cats getting old, but im glad i saw it anyway, it was really touching.

SusanofO -> RE: ForThose who have lost a pet - The Rainbow Bridge (9/17/2007 1:50:30 PM)

I am glad you could appreciate it; I thought it might be a moving video for people who have been very attached to, and lost their pets (it is a real tear-jerker, though, for sure. I still find it ironic there was a Beagle in it, that looked a lot like Oscar.

My sister saw it, and there is a black dog in it that looks just like her dog she lost last year. I liked that the video had cats, dogs and rabbits in it, and that at the end, both the person and the dog faded away, together, into "the other side" of The Rainbow Bridge.

I also liked the part where the little spaniel first sees who he thinks may be his "special person who loved him on Earth", and the video background keeps getting brighter, as the doggie recognizes that it really is who he is seeing - that special person!

It is a simple video - but it is just so well done, IMO, I felt compelled to pass it on.

I appreciate that it is probably good for all ages; UMs, as well as adults - I thought some here might some day be able to remember it exists, and use it to comfort their UMs if-when their family loses their special friend.

Susan, the cat in that looks just like Bubba!
