ORIGINAL: luckydog1 Probably would keep it quiet. What would be gained in causing a panic? That would seem to increase the chances of a total extinction. Wasn't it just a few years ago that a near miss came flying in out of nowhere and was detected just a few hours before it would have hit us. In an event like that the hordes of people flooding the rural areas would lower the surival chances of humanity in general, and cause a lot of un productive/pointless suffering. You should have food, water, medical /suvirval stuff in your home, and stay there if you can, every part of the world can get hit with a massive disaster with virtually no warning. It should always be in the back of our minds. If they saw it 10 years in advance and there are fortunes to be made fixing the problem, you bet they would tell right away. Lucky Dog, I agree with you there. I was watching a program on the History Channel about space and an Astronomer who tracks asteroids said; "it's the ones that we *don't* know about that worry me."
