A good friend of mine has a particular protocol for this. His slave walks slightly behind him on his right side. When they approach the door, she will step forward and open the door. He will step in, making sure there is enough room for her to resume her position on the right side, and she will shut the door, taking her place.

Its actually quite impressive to watch. They have been together for nearly seven years and they flow together almost harmoniously when they are together because of years of practicing these protocols.

I used to think it was all really silly. Some might consider this kind of thing to be purely theatrical...but its still quite a show when you watch two people execute it masterfully and adds a very nice element to their relationship.

While the reality of the M/S relationship lies in the individual's mentalites and protocols regarding speech, walking, dress, etc, etc can be labeled as superficial, I consider them to be important when they are valued by the individuals.

They simply help define the reality for them and reinforce the possibility as an actuality.

that kind of protocol would not work in a Male Dom female sub relationship in a public enviorment where i live at...if i even tried it, men would rush over and open the door for me, while glaring at, if not saying something to my Dom for not opening the door for me....when i am with a female dominant...or heck when i am with other women period, because of my service oriented nature, i open the door, unless of course, a man is there already opening the door for me...

The manner of walk and behaviour is decided by the Dom. Often it depends on the venue, and his mood. I was permitted to walk beside him at times, or behind him on others. My position was usually 2 steps behind and on his left so I could open the doors and follow his lead. Subtle signals were learned so I was able to behave as he wished, including whether I was permitted to speak (to him or others), to follow him, to sit, to serve, or to wait where I was placed.
