I don't have toys in the official sense of the word. Mainly, I prefer relying on my hands, and whatever body part seems appropriate for the dynamic at the moment.

Why buy what you've got already got around the house? As you might guess from that remark, I'm a huge fan of The Frugal Domme.

I know of a Dom in Indiana who enjoys having his sub go to his woodshop to handcraft the paddle to be used on her. I have to agree that it's far more fun to assign the task to the sub when it comes to making a toy.

It was very interesting to read what a variety of different responses there were. It is just as I suspected, we are all different based on our personality and needs ;) `

I do have a couple of good pieces (a nice flogger, a decent crop, and a really fun leather paddle with metal studdy things on it) but I really take exception to the whole "she with the most toys wins" attitude.

My toy collection fits in a golf bag. After 24 years in the scene, I find that I really only use a few good implements. I like multi-use toys.

Most of My stuff is "pervertables" like the Sporn Double Dog Coupler which makes a great hobble, restraint system, belt, bed tie, etc. Two of them can make almost anything your heart desires at any size. Leash, bondage device, chair restaint, hobble, belt, harness. etc.

What I need (and cannot afford) are a few really good paddles. I have a couple, but I love to spank and the more the merrier.

Here are some great pervertables: The velvet Touch Paddle hairbrush. sturdy and soft and light and above all... cheap! Sells for under $10.00

Dog couplers, either chain, nylon leather or whatever, they make wonderful fast handcuffs! The sporn version is the Cadillac of them all and even it is under $20

a GREAT cheap and damned comfortable set of mitts is made from thistle-seed bags you buy at bird feed stores! With a slide fastener at the open end, they are usually large enbough to accommodate large hands. Double the othe end over and sew a ring on and bingo, hand restaints that can be attached anywhere. Since they are made of light nylon mesh they prevent the persun using their hands and don't get hot and sweaty like some bondage mitts do. Two can be sewn together to make a behind-the-back mitt.

I've been involved in BDSM for 10 years, a good number of which were spent as a professional dominant owning my own studio. I was also the manager of a well-known fetish store on the east coast, to access to good quality merchandise at decent prices was not always a challenge. While once a toy collector (unique, quality items, not 50 floggers, 50 gags, etc.), I've found new homes for a good bit of my collection in the past few years. Things that were sitting in disuse were either sold at auction, given away as doorprizes at events or donated to various charities. That being said, I have a dedicated playroom in my home with over 500 feet of rope (poly and finished hemp), a custom jail cell, a number of floggers (Sarah Lashes, Snake Pit, Sasha, Northbound, Happy Tails, Details), five singletail whips including two custom pieces by Mike Murphy, 50+ canes in all different lengths and materials, restraints by Leather by Danny, as well as some other unique bondage toys, etc. However, much of the paddles, whips, ropes, gags, etc....still stay hanging in their places, as I more often than not play with and control my charge's mind and body with my own, before I'll ever bring forth the artificial aids :-)

as an adopted boy, I never got a lot of toys on christmas...so I tend to spoil myself now.
I believe my bag would rival Santa's..........ummm, both bags

Well to me, it makes no difference how many toys one has. More importantly, does everyone meticulously clean them after each time of using them?!! And if one was to draw blood with a pourous item, what do you do with it?

I am very anal about cleaning all of my toys with the appropriate cleaner for that item. i.e. for metal/plastic, pure alchol soaked for 10 min. and for leather, anti-bacteral waterless soap/bleach solution-wiping them very wet with a clotch twice and after they dry set them out in the sun. And to be honest, I have seen very few others take these precautions. When I drew blood on my slave in training with my signal whip, it was deemed only for him and he to purchase another for me to use on someone else.

I wonder how many out there know; 1) It takes a 5% bleach/water solution about 30 sec. to kill HIV off of a piece of equipment 2) Yet it takes 10 min. to kill all the HEP's!!! (Having a public dungeon for a time, I did extensive research to ensure safety and all my equipment was thoroughly cleaned at closing twice and again twice upon opening!!! Not to mention all that used the equip. was asked to wipe it down before use and twice after use in the proper manner.)

Probably not many, so I am of the firm belief that all subs should have their own toy bag! And if they don't have what you like; 1) they buy it for you or 2) You use your toy and judge for yourself if you should use it on another or 3) they find someone else. All sub/slaves should definitely have their own insertables, never to be used by another!

I would think everyone knows there are inherent risks when participating in this Lifestyle.....But why shuck the most important risk of all just to be sure you have the most toys?!!

well guess that would leave me out then

I would totaly have to agree with Lady Charly cleaning ones toys is the only way to be safe and if you have an insertable and you use it on one person it should be locked up and kept for them until you are done with them and then when they are set free give it to them as a parting/leaving gift.

I agree, cleaning your toys is of utmost importance. I used to do sex toy parties and that is one of the things I stressed during every single talk. Another thing I think is important to remember during play is to clean your insertables before and after each time. It is so important in preventing nasty infections. (I use Safe Suds, but I am sure there are other methods too)
