Your welcome, although it wasn't Darcy as he is watching Heroes... - it was me.
Hence the sig - does no one EVER read them these days?[8|][;)]

Dealing with couples who post from a shared account is kind of like talking to siamese twins; you KNOW there are two people involved, but it is often easy to mix up which head was speaking at the time. *grins*

I think I might have the nicest paperboy (er, man) on the planet. Actually, he is a man about 35 years old. It's a part-time job for him. He never fails to leave the paper inside my enclosed front porch.

Before he came along, the 10 year old paper boys I had before just tossed my newspaper on the lawn - even though I repeatedly asjed them to bring it inside the proch - and so there I would be, in my robe and slippers, out on the lawn in the snow in Winter at 7 a.m., fishing for the newspaper. Not a good time. Brrr. Cold!

This guy, though - he really makes an effort, and I make it worth his while. He gets a nice, FAT tip for Christmas from me. Plus a Holiday Goody bag, too, with all of the cookies, etc. He is a real sweetheart.

Nooo we don't look at the sig lol, what fun would it be knowing which one is posting? [:D]
And,
I loveeeeeeeee the entire holiday season. Yes holiday season. From Halloween all the way to Valentines Day! The gifts wrapped in shiny paper and topped with bows. Roasts on platters surrounded by the garland of roast vegetables. Kidlets eagerly waiting for Santa. I love it all. It makes me smile to think of familys sitting around a table, generations of family under one roof. The continuance of family is something that awes me and something I don't have.
Maybe I live vicariously through others but that is okay.
I love the holiday season.

Boxing Day is the day the slaves were recognised.
Like your handy man - or paper boy getting their envelope.

I think you are right and I think that is why so few people know of the origin or talk about it.

I agree.  I think that the USA is one of the few countries that do not have 'Boxing Day' - or it's varient.  It's more a 'commonwealth' kinda thing.  I prefere Boxing Day as a more significant day that the 25th and all it's gory.
Meh - call me the Grinch.[;)]

That makes me think of that old saying, "well, he puts his pants on just like any other man, one leg at a time", and then I had this image of the two of you slipping your pants on in the morning, and thought, wow, that must be complicated, and then I had a mental image of a centipede tying its shoelaces, and NOW I am so shaken I am going to go and have a drink before my imagination goes any farther. *L*

**stands up with a look of steely eyed determination on her face, and with an abrupt jerk of her hand, arms the squirter gun in her hand** I am sorry, Susan, it just has to be done. I swore a solemn oath to shoot the first person to mention Christmas shopping, before Halloween is even over.

*snickers, then guffaws in the corner by the tree. y'all must have missed the "134 days to christmas countdown i started. my fault, i let it lapse to the back pages. hey - i've been busy!! it's now 89 days til christmas, in australia.*

the dark: i understand the anti-commercialism. my mother used to threaten to cancel christmas, i guess that's why i'm so rabid about it. but then i also adore the sparkly things hanging around too. and the snowmen. cause it's summer during christmas, so gotta be contrary and have my snowman.

my ex used to hate the commercialism as well, so i tended to make many gifts. and then he accused me of making things so others would feel guilty that they bough pewky gifts. then when he left me, he made straight for the stores and bought everything. ya just can't win sometimes [:D]

but i ALWAYS made sure my kids knew the 'reason for the season'. that gifts weren't Santa Claus brought - that the maji brought gifts to the Jesus Child to show their respect and their love (and also some foreshadowing, but that's not for littlies) and even though i use a plastic tree, when i was growing up, we used real ones, then left it out on the front step for the birdies to eat stale cookies and popcorn off it to help them thru the winter, and then for firewood.

so yeah, it can be commercial, or it can be meaningful, it just depends on how you interpret it i guess

(omg, let's NOT start a TWUE christmas thread!!) [:o]

YourhandMyAss -> RE: Have you started your Christmas shopping yet? (9/26/2007 2:55:17 PM)

The only people I shop for, for x mas are my parents and my Daddy dom. I already know what daddy wants, so he's done, untill his birthday. my mom usualy wants jewelery of some kind so she'll prolly ask me for something from her fav catalog, that only leaves dad, and poof I am done.

i wish i could remember that old curse about the fleas of 1000 camels infesting folks crotches and such....id put it on all yall

nyrisa -> RE: Have you started your Christmas shopping yet? (9/26/2007 2:56:39 PM)

Well, Angel, I was letting that thread slide because the title was "134 Days and Counting"; since it did not combine the words "Christmas" and "shopping" it did not trigger my Scroogic tendencies. But of course, NOW, since you have brought yourself to my attention, like a tinsel decorated lemming leaping for the cliff's edge, I have no choice......**sighs and cocks the paint gun** Season's Greetings, baby! (tries for an Arnold Swarzenegger, Terminator, accent) Looks like this is going to turn into a paint-bath.

DiurnalVampire -> RE: Have you started your Christmas shopping yet? (9/26/2007 4:04:09 PM)

What is this Christmas you speak of?
Ever notice how no one ever assumes you have done your Hanukka shopping months in advance, and no one's Yule tiding cards are done 3 months early, addressed and stacked and waiting to go?

I think the Christmas holiday is almost an addiction, as much a great time to be had as a chore people dread.

I work retail, to me, Christmas means LOTSA extra time and money coming in.

DV

SusanofO -> RE: Have you started your Christmas shopping yet? (9/26/2007 4:12:25 PM)

Sorry, Diurnal. I mean Hannukuh, too. Boy you all have it rough, as far as shopping. Don't you have to buy gifts for eight days in a row, for everyone? That's a LOT of shopping, IMO. Do you have to buy 8 gifts for each person in the family? or do you draw names and stuff like some of we Christmas folk do?

My youngest sister suggested we draw names last year, buy then my other sister had a fit, and said she wouldn't participate, if we do that. She said it took some of the "fun" out of the Holidays. I thought that was a bit short-sighted, but didn't want to start a family fight, so I let it go, at the time.

She and her hubby are loaded financially, but my youngest sister and her hubby are not. I talked to her (the loaded sister)afterward, and she re-considered, but I am not sure just what we will do this year. We usually decide that formally at Thanksgiving. I already bought lots of stuff, I don't really care, either way. But I do think we should all be considerate of my youngest sister's circumstances, and will voice my opinion out loud (very loud) this year, if need be.

I don't think people should have to go into very much debt, simply to get Holiday gifts. That is completely against the "spirit of the season", IMO. Even if people seem to do it all the time. I have gotten "carried away" I guess, in the past, but not for about 5 years. Hopefully, I will keep it that way. I have a dollar limit as far as spending, for everyone on my list - and I stick to it.

SusanofO -> RE: Have you started your Christmas shopping yet? (9/26/2007 5:10:41 PM)

FullCircle: I found a website that might help you find a better, easier to set-up artificial Christmas tree. This web-site has pretty reasonable prices for high-quality, artificial Christmas trees. Mine lasted over 20 years, and I paid $179 for it, originally. So I figure it was a pretty good deal. I am considering getting a new one, this year. The old one did last a very long time.

The ones on this website below, are easy to assemble, and many are pre-lit. Good luck.
