I was wondering if anyone else thought it would be neat to set up some kind of BDSM vacation spot... either a timeshare or with room/house rentals.  Basically build 4 or 8 houses plus a little store in a gothic architectural style, somewhere near a city but not in it, cobblestone streets with old style street lamps, dungeons, stocks, etc.  The idea would be that people would either buy in for a certain number of weeks per year or just pre-buy vacation days in order to build the thing, and then keep it going the same way.  Could be fun.  Anybody like the idea?  Or is it stupid?

liljoy -> RE: BDSM Town (9/30/2007 10:58:33 AM)

It could be fun. i would think there would be a lot of things to consider about setting it up. One of the things i would think important wouold be how would you screen folks to keep cops and the press out?

BOUNTYHUNTER -> RE: BDSM Town (9/30/2007 11:00:07 AM)

WE have been there and done that,it just doesn't work well...bounty

alexfromsacto -> RE: BDSM Town (9/30/2007 11:00:46 AM)

Well, I would think people would sign agreements when they show up about legal nonsense.  Aside from that, perhaps put up a small fence/gate around the whole place to keep out unwanted guests.  If it became a major concern, potentially illegal activities could be done inside the houses.

alexfromsacto -> RE: BDSM Town (9/30/2007 11:02:02 AM)

What kind of environment did you set up, and what happened, BountyHunter?

HisSongstress -> RE: BDSM Town (9/30/2007 11:04:02 AM)

Aren't there nudist resorts along these lines?

best!

alexfromsacto -> RE: BDSM Town (9/30/2007 11:05:45 AM)

I have heard of nudist resorts, yeah.  This would be similar, but for the kink crowd.  With the kind of numbers of people that show up at all the kink festivals in San Francisco and elsewhere, I can't imagine there wouldn't be enough people to get this thing going.  It's just a matter of getting enough people to say "sure".

onmykneesb4Him -> RE: BDSM Town (9/30/2007 11:13:20 AM)

You mean like Exit to Eden?

i think the logistics would be overwhelming and even if you could do it, there's all the BDSM stuff that is potentially illegal according to the powers that be.

DocRudy -> RE: BDSM Town (9/30/2007 11:15:19 AM)

Already exists. It's called San Francisco.

alexfromsacto -> RE: BDSM Town (9/30/2007 11:15:52 AM)

Yeah it could be like Exit to Eden, only smaller scale at first of course.  There's potentially illegal stuff going on in each of our homes currently, with the spankings and whips and so on, so I don't see why that would be a bigger problem at this resort.  It's not like the police can break down your door and arrest you for spanking your significant other when nobody has complained.  Anything you're doing "out in the open" is still away from the vanilla community, so who would complain, right?  Anyway, I think it's worth a shot.  Either we can live in fear about the 1% chance of the law getting on is, and then only a small chance it comes to anything, or we can try to do something really cool.  I go with doing something really cool.

pseudopsychotic -> RE: BDSM Town (9/30/2007 11:32:23 AM)

You can get a mess of your friends togther, get a loan or something and buy property.
I'm sure there's some sort of paper work you'd have to sigh for the city to host such an event...but there are BDSM clubs and such..so if they can do it. I dont see how it would be illegal for you to do it on a boarder scale. The screening process would be a bitch though, because say, you let some jackle in and he/she goes blood thirsty....and someone gets seriously hurt...Then wouldnt you feel bad?
Of course you'd have to get bouncers of a sort to troll the crowd. And set limits and other such stuff.

All in all..I think it could be cool. Stressful (to the people in charge), but cool.

InkedMaster -> RE: BDSM Town (9/30/2007 11:34:47 AM)

Need preferred motorcycle parking...

alexfromsacto -> RE: BDSM Town (9/30/2007 11:55:33 AM)

I do think there should be a screening process to weed out certain undesireables, but there will always be a slight risk.  That risk exists whether it is at our resort or at their own home though, so I don't see why it is any more of a concern.  It would definately require some good insurance though.  One requirement might be that the people have been in a relationship for a while, so there's better odds that neither of them is a psycho.  If they were they probably wouldve done away with their partner already, right?  Heh.

GabrielleSlave -> RE: BDSM Town (9/30/2007 12:21:10 PM)

Yup sign me up lol!!  Though there is an hotel in the UK called Hotel BDSM, it's not a resort, mostly over night stays i think, but looks cool and i would love my Master to ever think i was worthy of being taken there......(sighs wistfully...)

I did some quick research on http://www.building-cost.net/ which is no doubt not super accurate, but the cost ranges from $120,000 per home to $300,000 per home depending on which part of which state it's built in, the size of each home, and the number of fireplaces and so on.  This is just to get a range anyway, not to have an exact number.  The $300,000 version was for an extremely large home, and that's probably not the best.  We'd want multiple smaller ones.  However, the unique architecture would probably add to the cost, so just to be safe we could say $200,000.  If that's an overestimate, make them bigger.  If it's an underestimate, make them smaller.

Anyway, that is not actually a huge amount of money, especially considering that if even 10-20% of it was put down, any bank would jump on the chance to finance the rest because if it was foreclosed they'd get $20-40,000.  So really to make it happen we would only need about that much, I would think.  I could be wrong, so maybe 30% down would be a better target, so $60,000 per home.  It could theoretically be started with just one, but it seems like the concept really could use 3 or 4.  So, the target would be $240,000.  Again, not a lot.  $1000 per person times 240 people, or $100 per person times 2400 people.  And of course the people that chipped in to make the thing happen to begin with would get special perks as opposed to people that join later.  If there was someone that had quite a bit of money to invest initially, it could be built closer to their location too.  Anyway, just some thoughts.

Wait a few years my friend and look to the south, there are already a few of us planning an island resort most likely in the Caribbean, the difference is that unlike Exit to Eden it would be fem domme only (my sincere appologies to any male dom's), and it would be more a community with a resort attached as well. So people can come to visit or to live.

From what we are looking at the Island will be 30-50 mill and to develop it will be a great deal more than that, think Jurassic Park (for scale) but BDSM and no genetic Dinosaurs. (hmm though my future domme may like the idea of training us males to out run a velociraptor...I guess I should teach myself genetics)

Most kink is not illegal per se.  Consensual bondage, flogging, watersports, et cetera, are not illegal.

Criminality only comes into play if someone gets seriously hurt or killed, or if a scene goes past the bottom's use of a safe word (at which juncture consent is withdrawn).

I don't care who knows I flog my slaves in my apartment.  If they want to watch, let them ask nicely and maybe I'll consider it!

Kirren -> RE: BDSM Town (9/30/2007 2:02:41 PM)

I think it would be cool to have something like that. I know that in Kentucky Bondage is on the books as illegal. I dont know to what extent, if any that it is actually punished. But honestly, I have heard of traveling dungeons and the like.

Mind you I said, Heard. Never saw, Never been to, just heard about. So its a very distinct possibility that its all crap.

Ive thought of starting a club locally that would cater to higher end types, but the area I am in is so small, and Bible Belted into place that the people here barely touch each other in a nilla way, much less in any other kind of way.

I think it would kick ass. I mean look, we have open gay marriages and all that, and thats socially acceptable, but the BDSM community has to hide like a bunch of skulking rats just becuase what? We like a lil excitement? Thats just wrong.

Maybe you could get some kind of minority grant to help?

There are vacation spots all over the world. Bed and Breakfasts, etc.

Couple years ago before ebay tightened their regulations a lady advertised their large vacation home in the caribean for rent with a full dungeon. it could accomidate up to 20 people. The house that is.

So they are out there just a little hard to find at times.
