The choice is in how she deals with the physical condition. The rest of the world is unlikely to change itself to meet her needs, therefore she has to choose what options she can find that are acceptable to both her and the others she's dealing with.

I totally agree, obis. That was the point I was trying to make.  It is up to a grown woman to take the steps she needs to take to handle anything she is facing, of course.  For this grown woman, I do all I can do with my Master's help, to deal with the symptoms I must face.  It is NEVER used as an excuse but, as I said earlier, it is a REASON why my behavior changes.  There is a huge difference between the two terms. 

As ghita said, I see the changes coming over me and He and I talk about it and we deal with easing them together.  His understanding that it's something I don't choose makes all the difference in the world in helping me handle it.  Good grief - if men had to endure some of it once or twice, they would realize that "getting to be a bitch" and have an "excuse" simply isn't worth what a woman has to endure[;)].  No sane woman would go through it just to have such an excuse. 

As with everything, I see the middle ground here.  Yes, some women use it as an excuse, I'm sure.  But that doesn't mean many do.  I think women - at least this one - just want to get through it as quickly and easily as possible and have the people around her know it's not something she wants to be putting up with................luci

While hormones may not be a reasonable ~excuse~ fo a behavior or condition, they certainly can be a CAUSE.

Too much estrogen was directly linked to my mom's breast cancer.  It killed her.

Too much, and too early, a release of the hormone relaxin left me nearly confined to a wheelchair for the final trimester of my last pregnancy  (A condition called pubis dysfunction (SPD), caused when  relaxin makes the pelvic ligaments slacken so much that the front of the pelvic girdle - the symphysis pubis - separates.)

Sorry guys- but if hormones can maim (at least temporarily) and kill- I think they are perfectly valid reasons for a woman to be off her game a few days a month.  Yes, there are treatment options available- and yes it's the responsibility of a woman to seek out what works for her.  BUT, our bodies are all different- and there will be varying degrees of success (if any) from woman to woman.    When treatment does not work...it's not 'bullshit...anymore than it's bullshit when a cancer patient succumbs after getting treatment.  We all know that medical science and the health field can't cure every person of every ill; and there are plenty of women out there that fall into that category.

I was reading something interesting the other day about magnesium levels, which typically drop during that time of the month for a woman. Low magnesium causes cravings (specifically for chocolate & sweets), tiredness, irritability, body aches & cramps (usually in the legs), sluggish thoughts...basically damn near everything we try to battle past during a "bad" TOM, LOL. Something to investigate! I've recently started on spirulina daily not only for this but for good health in general & have been able to tell a difference in mood & energy levels already.

With the Progesterone Creme & Evening Primrose oil - I started the oil 2-3 capsules a day for a a month, the very next TOM was remarkably different as far as the duration & pain level, which had been excruciating. Now I'm down to a capsule a day the last 2 weeks of the month (after ovulation) this dose works for me, again YMMV. With the progesterone creme (try Balance brand, best imho I've tried 3 different kinds) after taking this for the very first month my TOM has been regular & on time EVERY SINGLE TIME I used as directed (small amount 2x a day day 12-28) whereas prior I've never had a regular cycle. Ever, since age 12. Only twice when I missed too many doses has it been off for a week.

Hope this information may help someone.

I agree with this very much. Sorry to hear of the loss of your mother :(

 Soy is in EVERYTHING now, from the soaps & shampoos, cleaning products, almost everything canned, jarred or packaged, baby formula, all condiments, ect. If you start looking for it, it's frightening how invasive it's become and still being touted as a "health food" despite the many studies linking soy's use to so many illnesses & health problems. It's actually absorbable (the estrogen) thru the skin so even soaps & lotions that have it are a no-no in my house.

Pet peeve of mine, but JMHO.

I don't know what PMD and PMT is all about but I can imagine that these symptoms can impact someone who has experienced the problems. 

When I was 13 years old, I had menorrhagia, I had low iron in my blood for about 9 months and had to be hospitalized.  The doctors wanted to perform surgery on me but I was placed on birth control pills.  I have been on and off of this type of medication for quite some time but I am still on it because of having cysts, all a part of getting old. 

I feel bad for all of you experiencing these changes and would recommend seeing a doctor for these problems.  Perhaps Evening Primrose Oil and soy products might reduce the mood swings.. 

Although, there has been controversy about birth control pills I am taking, I find they do provide benefits for me such as lowering my mood swings and not having as many cramps as I did before I was on this type of medication.

MrDiscipline44, sorry mate but you sound like a complete and utter wanker.  I can use that word, because you used the word "cunt" lol.

Anyway, re the soy comments.  I eat large amounts of tofu and soya bean products and fish etc, and it helps me enormously with pms.  And here's something interesting.  The majority of women in Japan do not have symptoms of menopause because of their soya bean and fish diets, it's practically unheard of.  My mother recently went through a late menopause, and didn't even know it - she had no symptoms apart from no period anymore and yes she is a vegetarian like me too, and eats large amounts of soy products.

I agree with others on this thread that evening primrose oil tablets are fantastic.  You can also buy a "womens PMS/PMT formula" herbal pill to take every day and some friends of mine swear by them.  Blackmores sell them:
