I have heard this mentioned and i am curious.  Master and i don't do pain play (he is sensual not sadistic). Pain hurts and he does not like to hurt me.

I have heard you can be taken through pain in to pleasure.  Is it endorphinfs or something like that or what is it for you.

I don't know if it's the endorphins or what chemicals, but I definately can have the pain my Sir doles out to me becomes extremely pleasurable, and I begin to want it, need it in a scene. Even though my actually body still flinches (coz, duh, it hurts!) my brain still can translate it into a good feeling, and possibly even an orgasm. It wasn't always like that, either, I definately had to be conditioned to it. But there it is.

Pain itself has never given me a pleasureable high like it does some people. For me, it's pain followed by immediate aftercare (cuddling after a hard spanking or flogging).

Doncha just love all the different responses?  I do.

Long ago I read a book titled "Positive Addiction" by William Glasser, MD.    He pretty much explains the why and how if it....if that is what you are interested in.  I believe the book is still available at bookstores; it's quite good.

If you consider a 'runner's high'...you will understand that people DO convert pain to pleasure.  A runner, addicted to this high...will be misserable if s/he cannot run.  They will actually experience withdrawal...similar to any addict who cannot get high.  The same goes for weight lifters, people who exercize lots and lots...those being the positive examples; also cutters I think...or people who abuse their bodies in other ways; but I'm guessing there.

The deal is, the brain releases endorphins to help the body cope with pain...and those endorphins are very similar to heroin.  It can be a lovely high... when done for the positive and healthy reasons.

And, in my mind... BDSM play between healthy adults...IS healthy.

It must be the endorphins for me, at least that's what i would guess.

Beforehand, i really, truly want Him to make me feel pain. When i feel it, i don't necessarily like it, although sometimes i do. Often i cringe and sometimes i cry because it hurts. But as soon as He stops, i want more. Or i'm at the point where the stopping is what feels absolutely wonderful.

Usually i feel like i've had enough for a couple days, especially if i have some welts or bruises that linger (bruises are pretty commonly found on me). But it's not long before i want more.

Certain things feel better than others. i love the belt; His hands i like, but those are what really hurt (He has very hard hands!)

You have the right of it there.
Self abusers feel the same.."Oh damn..." rush as anyone else you listed.
And just like anything else, any other drug or activity (Just, not a very healthy one and they/we tend to do it for different reasons.)  all in all,  its still the same gotta have it..gimme gimme.

~~~
Now to help the OP:
To me, the pain is like..Umm...A whole new sensation. I like to go ..."Ohh wtf?"
But right after the pain is inflicted, I need a soothing hand and a kind look, otherwise,  I think I'd just feel abused.
And yea, of course it's a huge chemical release.
I'm not sure if you actually convert it to pleasure, but I guess if pain feels good and pleasure is feeling good then...Yeah.
Just my thoughts.
I have had pleasure come out of the pain. This usually happens with really intense scenes where there is a lot of pain involved. Eventually my body becomes somewhat desensitized to the pain and starts responding with pleasure. My favorite is when he has gotten me to the point where I orgasm while he uses a crop or cane on me.
I also love the waves of the pleasure and pain he will put me through. He will build to the point where I can't stand the pain anymore and then he will bring me down until it feels good so that I'm ready for more of the intensity. God I love this lifestyle!
I think both endorphins and the fact that our mind can begin to associate things that would be otherwise painful with pleasure over time.  Much like pavlov's dog, human beings become conditioned to believe something they otherwise would not have believed.  Combining painful stimulus with pleasurable stimulus can create this result as well as just having positive experiences and support through painful sessions in my experience.
i don't know what it is either, but i've almost gotten to the point that i can't even play with myself or cum without my clamps or some other form of pain....and that has come from training.
Isn't that how to train one to get pleasure from pain...to alternate the two extreams?  I have not exactly figured it out; sometimes it just hurts...sometimes I get so turned on, I cum...but there there is no guarantee.
I think it has something to do with the constant ramping up, alternated with cool-down, that builds and builds the endorphines to the point of pleasure.
I have only had one friend who understood this; some think we just automatically cum when tied to a cross and whailed upon full-out!  <sigh>
I am a pain slut, and I will be the first to say pain hurts! it's the why and how you are taking it, there are some sensations that to me aren't perceived as pain but to others it is.  I bottom to a sadist and it gives him  pleasure to cause me pain, that I can give him that gift, that intimate part of myself brings me joy and pleasure. Do I like it when  he flogs me, oh hell yes.. Do I like it when he uses a metal paddle on me like a can opener.. oh hell no but I want to take it, I want to push my limits so he can paint my skin with pain.   It is my act of submition to stand infront of him because I know he is going to hurt me, not harm me but make me scream until I can't remember my name. It's the reasons behind the pain and the expereince that you can come thru it, that you can share that with him. Again it is definatly not for everyone.
does that help?
Yes...that is more how I know pain...  I submit to it because I know it pleases him when I offer myself to him that way.  I enjoy that kind of submission; I am a pleaser.
The bloody welts and bruises I can feel later just make me smile.
Still...the few times I've experienced the other with someone; it was awesome.
As far as I can tell its conditioning.  Its about wanting to please your Dom/me or Master and in doing so, your brain is trained/triggered into translating the pain into pleasure.  Of course I think it has to do with also enjoying the pain.  Some people knew early they like pain, and so pain for them is just a pleasure.  There are several views on this, but its not for everyone.
I can be pretty stoic on the surface but sometimes I can really enjoy having a strong, forced reaction that I can't control. Pain is useful for this. Some types of pain I can't handle at all but other types seem to color everything else with intensity. Pain also forces me to focus- I find that I pay much more attention to detail (colors, textures, sounds, and especially smells) and I have more intense memories of things that happened while I was in pain. Sure, some of this is about endorphins. I can't give a general explanation because for me, all types of pain are different- some are directly pleasurable, some are annoying or even infuriating, some make me proud to endure and some just plain hurt.
He can also start out very light with something like a cane or crop light enough to not hurt. Just move all over the body after a while with the same tempo and the same pressure you will see the lines apear and the redness without the pain. This is caused by simple repeditive nature. Soon you will build up a tolerance to it or even if you do not wish to you will either crave more of this type of play "sencual" or you will move on and want things a little harder and faster. yes endorphins are a drug better then man can make and that goes for both of you.
Pain and pleasure definitley go hand in hand but i find it's a bit addictive. The more you get the more you want.
i can't say for sure...i never move from pain to pleasure.  i start at pleasure.  sure, if there is no warm up what so ever, it can take me a few to 'catch up'.   but its still not what i would describe as particularly painful. for me erotic pain does not hurt; its arousing...its exciting.  even aftrwards i'm often surprised to see the 'damage'... the breaks in the skin or even the burns. i never realize during the scene that its that intense.   i fantasized about it as a small child.  once it actually happened (as an adult) i was so thrilled and excited.  i suspect that is why it didn't hurt...only satisfied a need... an itch if you will... that  i'd had all that time.
