Status: offline 		did you do everything you could in the last election?
no, i don't mean the last presidential election....i mean the last local election?
how about the last state election?
did you register to vote?
did you vote?
did you make sure everyone you knew was registed to vote?
did you make sure everyone you knew could get to the polls when it came time to vote?

after hearing a keynote speaker this past sunday i am ashamed to say that i did not do all i could in my home state the second tuesday of november in 2005, heck - i didn't even vote... and there was a horrible Proposition passed that i didn't even know about until 2 days ago...Proposition 2 was passed by effectively (if i remember correctly) 17% of the eligable voting population in texas...and it defines marriage as between one man and one woman...

*steps up on a soap box for a moment*
marriage is either a a legally binding contract OR a religious ceremony....it can't be both, take your morals out of my legal contracts or take your legallity out of my relgion...you can't have it both ways in this country....
*steps off soap box, but keeps it around, just in case*

so...you post about the problems with the political figures, whether they are Democratic or Repulican or whatever other party or lack there of they may be....but...have you done everything you can to put the "right" people in their place? because just one vote counts...especially when 10 million just one votes sit at home because just one vote doesn't count...

Status: offline 		cool...theres a website in the process of being built...catch up with me in a few weeks and remind me to see if its been built. it was registered on sunday...grass roots kind of movement...

btw...from what i could gather on your political views based on your posts, i don't think we see eye to eye...but i do respect your tactics because you don't get into the mud slinging b.s. that so many on these boards do...congrats! lol...keep it up...

Status: offline 		Not keen on the idea of morality being  separated from legality. Do married couples in the US get extra tax allowences both as a couple and when children "appear" ?

Status: offline 		Oh, I'm involved alright. Even before I joined the party I was involved - it only seemed natural to join the party that my ex was running and in which my participation was going to be anyway, whether that was copywriting, funding or childminding during meetings!

Something to think about...

The guys and gals you elect locally very often have higher goals.  In a few years they may well go from the school board, to the town hall, then on to the State capitol, and beyond.

Getting the right people in office starts at home, once a bad apple makes it to Washington he or she is there for the long haul.

Start getting good people in office locally first and support their bids for higher office should they decide to go further.

but i am a citizen by birth.very good point made chelle. people forget the importance of voting. people fight  die for it. every time we vote, encourage someone to register, we honor those that have gone to jail, fought or died for us to be able to vote.

Status: offline 		I vote in all the UK elections and i try and make sure any neighbours needing transport get a lift, if they so wish. If i dont like any of the candidates viewpoints i have been known to spoil my ballot paper, but i still vote.

As for marriage, Church law was incoporated into UK law even before the American revolution. They are seperate in as much as you dont need to get married in church to have the benefit of civil law. Why do you feel the two need to be seperate. If you wish to marry outside church you can do so. If you wish to use the Church then surely you have a right to know civil law also applies ?

Keep the soapbox handy, i am having one of those days and may ask to borrow it

I listened and voted.   I contributed to the candidates I felt were the lesser of the evils.

Been registered since before I could vote

Haven't missed an election in 35 years....since I first could vote

Hell no!   Some of them were too uninformed to make a good vote.  And I also think it is a first step in personal responsibility to make the effort to register.  

did you make sure everyone you knew could get to the polls when it came time to vote?
Nope.  I've felt it was my responsibility to vote and to make the efforts needed to vote, even if it meant voting absentee.

People do what is important to them.  If they feel that they should be part of the system, they'll get off the couch, take the bus, get registered.   And take the hike or catch a ride or the bus or a bike to vote in their precinct.  Or make the call and get the absentee ballot.

I think everyone should exercise their franchise.  But they should make the effort cast their ballot and they should be *informed* on what they are voting about.

Status: offline 		culturally gay marriage is here NOW. when one asks did he marry a man or woman; that tells you something. the very act of acting tells me the cat is out of the bag on marriage being man/woman.

As a man, who happens to be gay; I dont immediately define myself as gay.

I am human.
I am male.
What I do in my bedrooom is MY biz.

for close friends and family; I choose to not lie. I am a man who happens to be gay.  I dont want a sex change. I dont want many gay issues to crop up. I simple want to blend in. Quietly enjoy domestic tranquility.

Dad used to say- choose your battles carefuly.

In a world where putting food on teh table/and a roof over head- no time to surrender to the holier then thou crowd. [which I found has the biggest skelotons!]

I am embarrassed- that the gay marriage-a devision tool to divide and conquer, has succeeded in todays bush aberration.

You see- marriage is a double edged sword. while there are over 1000 +s there are huge -,s.

I know a gay mmman who married a lesbien to get on her insurance, which has dental, HE got all his teeth fixed. LMAO!  She her lady live in the main house and he sleeps in the laundry room. But hey- the made the system work for them.

A few have done this type of thing to have children. I would consider it. Finding a nice lesbien couple- and furnishing the sperm; with limited involvement in the childs life.  ----> any takers?

Status: offline 		       I go well beyond making sure I vote in even the smallest local elections.  I'm currently active in two local campaigns (a school board position and a city councilman) for next spring.  I'll sometimes mention 'knocking on doors,' but at this point, I'm much more likely to be running all over town, checking up on the precinct teams and troubleshooting.  Last week, I sat about 10 feet away from Rudy Giuliani at a fund-raiser and I'll be doing everything I can to help him win the California primary on Feb. 5.

town politics- and county politics- i stay out of.   i do express my opinion WHEN it makes the biggest impact

Status: offline 		Ni I did not do everything I could, I did everything I wanted to do. I do not believe that many people do everything they could, someone will always think of one more thing that could have been done. I consider my local and state elections, more important than the presidential one. The President does not live 10 min away from me, or visit a barber 15 minutes away, my Congressman, and other local officials often do. Since they are closer, I can actually tell them face to face what I think of their actions and how I would like for them to vote, or address issues.

define married couples? because if the extreme religious right...not the "republican party" but the extreme religious right had it's way, a married couple, not even touching the possibility of poly, would be one man and one woman who can and will reproduce...any varriation would be illegal...and these are people that get voted in...and stay in...

As for gay marriage I can't figure out why the people who are against it would even care what someone else does in the privacy of their own bedroom as Pa Hunk says.

I planted salacious emails on Mark Foley's PC and told Denny Hastert that they were no big deal. I gagged John Kerry so he couldn't say any more dumb things that could sway the elections. I got Karl Rove a date with Larry Craig so he'd be too distracted to pull any dirty tricks. I seeded the clouds and thumbtacked the roads in as many Republican districts as I could get to. I did all I could. I think it went well, all in all.

Status: offline 		I vote in every election, and I have been registered since I was 18.  I don't really give a shit about the gay marriage issue to be honest with you.  There are more important things to worry about than marriage.  This is just one of those issues for the stupid people to argue about who don't pay attention to the rest of what is going on the world.  It is a red herring.  As far as I am concerned, marriage should not be handled by the government.   The government should only step into relationships when their is a dispute over property, money, or custody issues.  I don't care if someone wants 5 wives/husbands, wants to marry their sister, etc.  People should be allowed to make any personal choice they want with other consenting adults.

Yes to it all and adding on I also attend all city council meetings so I know what is happening in my city.

I do have political opinions yet I have never expressed them on this board just yet.  I don't feel it is a place where I should get in a heated debate over something I cannot change anyway.  People formed their opinions for solid reasons and seldom people do change.
I do however try to defend the underdog whoever that may be at the time.  Yet, do not follow up once doing so.
