actually we learned that trick from the white man. they put a bounty on every indian scalp brought in. along with pox infested blankets given to indians families. oh , and all the treaties they signed and then backed out of? thats where you get indian giver from....means like the white man giving the treaty lands then taking them back.

I have to admit- I did not know that.

Ya know- even today mineral royalties are unpaid to the rightful owners. No media will cover it...but tribal nations are owed million due to faulty book keeping and no oversight.

OP.....wait a minute......Native Americans are terrorists for trying to protect the land that Columbus et. al. invaded? yeah there's something that makes sense.....hum. Research first, really....try it.

Yeah, over history, the white man (people) have done a lot of fucked up things to peaceful people in the name of Christianity and just in the name of simply being born white. It's not something I personally am proud of.

You know, it's odd, I've never felt proud or disgusted with myself based on my ancestor's actions. I have been proud of or disgusted for them, but don't reflect it on myself.

The way I look at it, all my ancestors gave me was a name and genetic material. That does not make me them, nor them me. I may want to kill people at times, but that doesn't mean I'm killing people now. I'm not committing any act for government or King, my actions and choices are my own.

If someone were to ask me what I would do for the Indians, I'd say, let them run the show for a few decades. The North American society, such as it is, has evolved over the centuries and is simply not what it once was. I wouldn't presume an Indian to be any more or less capable than a Caucasian, and would not assume them to be capable or incapable of an equal amount of greed. I think we would discover that too much has been changed to arbitrarily turn the clock back, and that what the system needs now is more independent thinkers and honest folk, regardless of race.

Me, I'm glad that none of my ancestors were on North American soil before 1948... But that means that I also have the baggage of being one of *those* Americans (1st gen!).

If defending the land you live on is terrorism, then what does that make Monroe Doctrine and Manifest Destiny? I mean, even Lebensraum had a more rational basis than American foreign policy in the 20th Century...

Well, of course we are capable and we have our problems like everyone else in this world. We go to college, we have careers, we own homes, and so on.

Though one thing that needs to remain is tribal sovereignty, which is our way of self-government on reservation land.

Not all did, my grandfathers people weren't into scalping. Most of the woodland tribes didn't do alot of scalping. The settlers did deserve it though.. Brought disease and destruction to the land. Took over without regards to the people who had been here first who had lived the land and or rights to it. I would have scalped all the white settlers I could have.
