My answer is thus: I could give a damn what people eat. If you are a Dom and you love Cheetos, eat the Cheetos. Even if you are a bit heavy, might as well enjoy it until your maker calls for ya.

Hey why don't we all stop wearing seatbelts?  I mean it's better to be comfortable until we die right?

Sorry, I know that sounds a bit cheeky, but when I read a statement like that it just sounds ridiculous.  I don't care if people choose to smoke, or eat themselves into a heart attack, but don't try and justify it as a healthy choice.

My main issue with smokers , or dangerously overweight Doms is that I see them as a bad investment emotionally .  I've lost several fanily members , due to their poor choices that resulted in preventable diseases , and I don't wish to set myself up for more heartache for those particular reasons .

The other side of this , is that I am an active person , and when in a relationship I like to be able to share some activities with my partner - which frankly require a level of fitness .    I find health and fitness to be a major turn-on !

Lastly -  I find smoking to be gross on all levels  - aside from the fact that it kills people that likely wouldn't die so soon otherwise - if they didn't smoke .

These habits have nothing to do with people being good or bad ,  or Dom/mes being good or bad at domming - but I simply have my own preferences , and things that attract me - or not .

It's biologically ingrained that we find mates that have something to offer future generations. While everyone has different preferences of what that offer may be, health and fitness (but not neccissarily together) have been proven to be some of the main factors of choosing a mate.

I'm quite amused here watching the body fascists gnawing at the bones of the carcass of a three year old thread.

First and foremost, I'm not overweight, not anywhere near it.  I'm physically actiive and don't eat a crap load of junk foods.

Some people are eating meat full of hormones, and eating a lot of crap that's full of corn syrup and all kinds of chemicals and other crap.

Hell some people sleep with air ionizers within 5 feet of their bed as well.

However, I smoke and it's my choice to do so.   Let me explain this to you really simple, I'll continue to smoke as long as I want to and I'm not ready to bow down and stop just because somebody tells me I should.

However, if I want a box of Twinkies a day, I'm damn well gonna do that!  If I want to enjoy a smoke, I'm damn well gonna do that.  If I want to drink a beer, I will damn well do that.   If I make the choice to drink, I'm gonna do.

I'm DOM enough to say, you know what screw it, I'm gonna do what I want to do, and anybody else can kiss my ASS.   Who's in control of me again?  Myself or everything that is dictated to me by every organization.

Some of the day to day household cleaning products are just as dangerous if not more so compared to smoking.  There's a whole wide range of things that are banned in oversea's countries that people use in day to day cleaning here in the US.

So what's my point?  How big of health freak are you?  If you want to start pointing the fingers here..  then what?

Do real DOMs recycle?  Do real DOMs refrain from eating Meat?  Do real DOM's buy only organic Produce?  Do real DOM's never buy Food from McDonalds because it supports Tropic Rainforest deforstation?  Do real DOM's not by products that involve Mecury containmenation of our Oceans?  Do real DOMs refrain from eating Fish out of the Ocean because it contains Mercury and other chemicals that are being Dumped into the Ocean?  Do Real DOMs only use mouthwash that balances the Mouths Natural Baterica Balance and not Kill everything off inside in a single swish (the good gems along with the bad)?  Do real DOMs refuse to buy goods from Wal-Mart because a lot of the goods are made in over seas countries where child forced labor slavery is used?   Do real DOM's make certain to not use any Arosal canned products that pollute the air inside a household?   Do real DOMs only buy juice from the store that only 100%, without any corn syrup and other additives?   Are Real DOMs Republician or Democrate?  Do real DOMs own Hand guns or not?  Do real DOMs ride motorcycles or not?  Do real DOMs wear helmets while riding their DOMly Motor Bike?

Who's in control of who's own life again?  Who had freedom to do what they want to do?  Who's in control?

I have a few weaknesses or faults.  Overall, I am pretty balanced, but I am human and will have faults or will even allow myself a weakness or two.  I simply believe that too much of anything can be out of balance.  That includes talking or even sex!  Okay most may want to disagree on that one... but 24/7 sex can be a problem unless you like it homeless, under a tree.  It is about balance and I won't be with anyone without it and wouldn't be with anyone who didn't expect it of me.  It isn't a matter of how I handle one aspect of life, but all aspects of life.  Too much or too little would surely get my attention and would be a turn off, but a couple relaxed area's in life with everything going well... not a big deal.  Some of the oldest people in the world had their cigs and booze and some who never picked up a cig, died of lung cancer.  Unfair?  Sure... life is that way... so indulge a little, refrain a little... balance it. But to answer the question, it works a lot of ways for different people.  You pick, you decide... monitoring other's isn't my thing, although I have my opinions... because it is my pick and I decide.  Am I less dominant because I like oreo's and need to regulate them or pig out with a bowl of milk and cookies?  I think not, but you can ask those that know my dominance... I think it matters not, because I balance it all, even my dominance.

I'm the one that brought it up again because I did a search and found a thread exactly like I was going to post. Instead of clogging the boards I just stated my opinions. I'm also not sure what "body fascists" is supposed to mean in regards to people discussing their opinions about a topic.

What if I prefer twinkies to being thin?  What if I prefer mess to order?  What if I decide smoking is the one weakness I will allow myself?

Plenty of thin people with clean orderly houses who don't smoke are completely unhappy dysfunctional disasters and plenty of fat people with messy houses smoke and are completely happy.

You are making the assumption that everyone who has will power, everyone who has mastered themselves has the same goal and that is clearly a falsehood.

No body's life is perfectly mastered, one chooses what to focus on and what to let go.  Some choose career but let their family life suffer, others put family above career.  Some choose to spend their life in the gym, others in a library.

The problem comes in when they lack clarity as to what their goals are and fail to move themselves in that direction.

I think this expresses my thoughts on the matter perfectly.

No. Eons from now archaeologists will discover twinkies packaged today that will still be as "edible" as they are now. Similarly, this thread may also be resurrected again then and the conversation will continue as it does now.

let me just put down my cigar, and my cheeseburger to rattle off a responce to this......... hmmmm pretty simple....... I do what I like, what I enjoy, I get what I desire. If I enjoy a good cigar and you don't like it, and think I am less of a dominant to do so, well carry your little egotistical arse off, we probably are not going to get along any ways.
Self control ptfffffffff I want it ALL

hehe... ahh what will the fine people over at Fox try to convince us of next?

A ressurrected thread as opposed to a new one is, I suppose more efficient by some standards.  It seems pretty obvious there is no shortage of opinions on the subject.

I am a "quality not quantity" person, myself.  By that I mean I would rather truly enjoy what life I have than live miserably for a very long time.  I've said this before but one year or one hundred years, a lifetime is still just an eyeblink, cosmically speaking.. it is all far too short, so it might as well be fun.  I keep fit and I have 'successfully' quit smoking something like 15 times (and before you go thinking this is proof of a lack of control, understand this.. I am not smoking now, but I will start again at some point and it will be a rationally justifiable reason on my part.  I am a theater artist, and in addition to my work behind the scenes I also act.  Sometimes I play the role of a smoker or play a romantic role across from a smoker and it is easier to just smoke and enjoy it than to kiss an ashtray pretend to enjoy it.  I can always quit again later.  Also, I would never turn down a good Cuban cigar, and if one comes into my hands, 'quit' or not, I am going to enjoy it.)  I think this sort of judgement is purely relative.  If health is important to you, then make your choices accordingly.  I know I do.

I just made an observation which can be taken also as an opinion. I wasn't addressing anyone specifically.

I used the term 'body fascist' for a reason, and going back and reading through the thread I stand by that reason. This is my opinion. And just like you I'm stating it.

If you can eat twinkies without resorting to stealing them from a store.
If you can light up a smoke without setting the place on fire.
It's a pretty safe bet you are in control.

Hi Dominmd:

Bravo!  You really hit the nail on the head and I wish you well in getting healthy.  I, too, am an overweight sub but I am also trying to do something about it like portion control and exercising.

Trust, love, care and respect for each other is very important between a dom and sub(s).  My last ex dom is overweight and I am still on good terms with him.  I have more respect for him than I would for some of these "Adonis doms" who are nice to look at and make good arm candy; however, some of them can be very ugly when it comes to caring and having respect for others.

I won't go so far as to say it is impossible for someone calling themselves a dominant to successfully control others within the construct of BDSM if he or she is overweight and/or smokes. But I will assert that if a second person is able to choose a different path than to overindulge in food, and can successfully choose not to become addicted to nicotine, then I'd have to say the second person would indeed be able to make a pretty good argument that they are perhaps better-suited for controlling other human beings than the first example. The evidence (self-control) which would support that is intertwined in the second example's daily life for all to see, and I really don't see how that could be disputed, unless of course you feel self-control is simply not a factor in one's ability to control others... That, to me, would seem to be a stretch.

A greater than average level of self-control is a very attractive quality in a dominant for many. To me, it demonstrates that, in their dealings with a submissive counterpart, they are prepared to choose the difficult path rather than the alternate easier one, because they've already done it for themselves.

I would find it hypocritical is this dominate expected a fit slave. I'm not able to serve someone I can't respect. So yes, for me the dominate should have an overall high level of self control, or at least in the areas they expect to take control from the sub.

I like the way you put that.  Of course, I'm also a fan of Viktor Frankl's concept that consistently making the small choices to do things which require self control, carries people through the harder choices.
