Aileen, I freaked out a year ago when I had to start wearing reading glasses (vanity is a killer).

But, I collect handbags and jewelry so I decided to collect cool glasses and I got different ones to match outfits, I have tortoise rectangle Dolce & Gabbanas with crystal D&Gs, violet Prada square-ish ones, black and silver Versaces, you get the picture.

At first I felt yucky but everyone thinks they look sexy, so I agree with everyone, you are so cute any of them will look on you.

I am near sighted in my left eye, far sighted in my right eye. I have no peripheral vision, and some times I can see a mile, other times I can't see my computer screen. I get light headed, dizzy, at times I see colored specks that fly everywhere. I don't have insurance, so I don't wear glasses. I drive, and usually live an OK life. You can adjust and go by memory fairly well.

So I recommend no glasses at all. It works for me.

~Ki

I need like 3 pair cause sometimes I drop my main pair and can't see to find them, or they break every now and then.

Eh, I thnk it's a waste of money to buy tons of frames, to wear only for particular personality uses. I wear the same frame for every single "me personality" there is. But I chose a pair that are cute and flatter my face well, and doesn't hide me behind a huge pair of lenses.

I’m not talking about buying a dozen frames, more like two or three. I own three pair myself, my every day pair, prescription sunglasses, and prescription work glasses.

I've worn glasses for thirty years now; what I've learned -

1) the steaming up problem - overcome by a tiny drop of washing up liquid polished across the lenses
2) you need two pairs minimum - one normal, one sunglasses. When (not if) you lose, misplace or break one pair you'll be glad for the other
3) you need a special repair kit with tiny screwdrivers to tighten the screws which hold the lens in the frame; these come undone over time. Superglue to refit the supports on your nose is also good.
4) dandruff and eyelashes, make up etc will gather behind the lenses, which you wont notice but others will. You need to carry a soft cloth to clean them every now and then
5) sweat! this also gathers where the glasses dam its natural flow; nose supports will turn green with algae and you'll get blackheads and spots if you dont take care!
6) new glasses take time to get used to - the first day or so everything feels weird, but your balance will adjust
7) girls dont make passes at boys in glasses, and vice versa. but luckily as we all grow older, men will make passes at ladies in glasses

~fast reply~

i'm nearsighted, and it was never discovered till i was 9...when i got my first pair glasses, and came home, i was astonished to find there were leaves at the TOPS of the trees too! (all i could see was a green blur)

i was supposed to get bifocals this last trip (two years ago?  no, more than that....) anyway i couldnt adjust to them at all.  i take my glasses off for close work.  *shrugs*

bifocals are so 20's never ever get them or trifocals  get the variable lenses.  So much easier on the neck.

Ron

I would be careful of designer stuff and the outlandish....simple stuff.

Are you sure you want glasses anyway?  You really wanna see all the shit I am gonna do to you?  It would be better for your concience if you didn't know.

Ron

get glasses and get contacts, use mostly contacts (best of both worlds)

Aileen68 -> RE: Boys Don't Make Passes at Girls Who Wear Glasses (10/11/2007 12:00:22 PM)

Well, picked out and ordered two pair today...seven hundred dollars later (and that was with my insurance discount).  Who knew glasses were so expensive.
Hey Ron...I'll take a pic of them on my ass just for you.  [8|][8|]

LOL. I had a similar experience when I was about 12/13 when I flatly refused to believe that a friend, I had one then, could see a clock which was just a white blur to me.

When he told me the correct time and we got so close even I could see it, I knew I had a problem.

Well...turns out I'm near sighted and now need glasses for driving and seeing distances.  So what kind of glasses should I get?  I'm thinking something kind of bold and artsy.

Valyraen says mine give me that hot librarian look. He prefers me in glasses and gets kinda sad that I wear contacts for my reenacting.

Edited to make sure: My glasses are in my profile pic. They weren't very expensive but they seem to suit me fairly well. I always did thin frames before these but I like how these look on my face better.

Orrrr you can use them to swap over peoples lenses when they leave their glasses lying about. You have to put the lenses in back to front though or they won’t fit.

So I'll be nerdy now, huh?

Don't think "nerdy" think "Sexy Librarian."

Honestly Aileen, you are a very attractive woman and I seriously doubt that you will notice any loss of "come ons" just because you slip on a pair of glasses. You would still be attractive no matter what you wear or don't wear.

I live in NJ.  Everything is expensive here.

Haha, I wear glasses. Love them. Actually, I get compliments on them quite frequently. When I first had to get them I thought I would hate them. I tried contacts but allergies and watery eyes don't mix well. After getting them I ended up loving them. Now I go to zennioptical.com they have nice quality glasses at insainly cheep prices. So, now I have tons of differnt glasses in all differnt colors. My favorite pair that I wear %90 of the time is a green squarish frame with checkers on the side. They cost me $25.00 that includes frame and lenses and they've lasted me 2 years and are still holding up great. I defintally suggest looking around there when you have your eye glass perscription and have an idea of what glasses look good on you. Good luck on your glasses search.

All the best
Casie
