I just thought this was an interesting question because I've had two Masters recently make comments like "submission is a religion and the Dom is god", and they seem to really get off on the idea of being "worshipped". I've never heard anyone go as far as saying they ARE God, but the indirect comparison seems to be made. Do people think that is acceptable? Would it be going too far?

Depends on your religious views.

I believe in a higher power (God or Goddess) I believe there is only one.  Some may have other views and feel they are a god.

Many Masters do use the title "Lord"

The worship part is very hot and I think that a dominant/master can be someone's god, yes.

I can see one way that he might mean it. As a dom, I am trying to establish the same kind of trust, acceptance, and faith that I try to give God. Of course, I am human, and understand that we are on a journey that we will never complete, but the journey is FUN!!!
I like to say that I want your mind and body, but your soul belong to you and God. I know, of course that I am not God, and darn far from Him. But we really ARE tryig to establish this kind of relationship, aren't we?

Whatever works for you.

Worshipping is a very large part of a lot of people's relationships.

It only goes too far when the other person didn't consent (in 99% of cases).

This is how I described it in the past:
For me worship is pretty much just that- it's a head/spirit place that is divine, it is focused energy, in which the persons body becomes the conduit for your love and devotion, for your sacrifice and your prayers. You are a pilgrim allowed to kneel at the alter of their flesh.

Not in my book.

Valyraen is not God and has no pretense of being a God. This is part of why I am not allowed to give pronouns referring to him, or other masters, a capital letter. Anyone thinking they are God, or expecting me to treat them as such, would be shown the door. I have no time for people suffering from delusions of grandeur.

I was in a vanilla marriage and my ex-husband thought he was God, until I proved him wrong, which is why I divorced him.

I look at a dom as a human being, not God because we can all make mistakes.

No, I don't think it is.  That's like taking macho crap to the ultimate.  But on a lighter note...when I scream "Oh God" at appropriate moments and he's the only one in the room...hmmm?

I think the OP is a dumb question.

What is one going to do if it is not OK? Revive the Inquisition? Call out the Dungeon Police?

Proclaim "Bad Master! Bad! Bad! Bad!" and hit him on the nose with a rolled up newspaper?

Wouldn't something like "What type of Master would ...." be far better for starting discussion?

PS: No, I don't call myself "God" or "god" or "g*d" or any other such thing. I refuse to associate myself with any cosmic deity with a strong narcissistic personality disorder.

I would imagine offense to that comment would come from taking it literally as opposed to metaphorically.

With reading and applying some abstract thought. I've found many aspects of religous service and worship can be taken and applied to D/S, M/S, and S/M..

For example, the more Catholic and Christian idealogy of "Being in service to God in all your actions and endeavers" has a lot of similarilities to the concept of a 24/7 mentality where "one is in service to their Master in all their actions and endeavers from buying groceries to working a job".

I don't think her question was dumb at all.  Based on the various responses here we all have similar and different opinions regarding it.  It was an interesting question

And Knight, there can be only one buddha belly besides you have hair I don't LOL!

I can understand saying that submission is somewhat like a religion, but to insinuate that a dominant is his submissive's God is going a bit far.

Worship can take many forms and my thoughts are probably different than most.  I don't consider the intense physical attention that many dominants crave to be worship... I see it as sensuous play.  Don't get me wrong, I love sensuous play and will provide it whenever asked and offer it whenever I can.

To me though, worship is in the heart and mind.  As I've said before here, when my waking moments are filled with thoughts of him... when every decision I make is prefaced with consideration of his preferences... when my actions are influenced by how he will react... when my desires are shaped to match his own... I am worshipping him.  That's not something that can be demanded of me, and unless he is very perceptive it will go unnoticed.

Hopefully, FirmhandKY is very perceptive.

This is a very good topic.  When I first started in this lifestyle, I had a Mentor.  He demanded that I refer to him as "Master".  He even went further to require me to submit as His "Lord" and Master".
This type of Domination is practiced by a lot of Doms, and some submissives love it; however, I totally freaked out because I am a Christian, and I only have one that I refer to as Master.  The best I could have been was sub, and we went on to discover I was neither sub nor slave.   I am Domme, and I do not require my slave to worship me.  As a matter of fact I have taken him to my local church many times.
I think if one is true in their spirituality to their God, a Dom/me should recognize that need and allow them to worship their God in their way without taking that from them.  Faith is an important tool to cope in this life.

Regards, MissSCD

R is my higher power. I do worship him. It is a pretty intense part of our dynamic and one that evolved over time. It took him a number of years to become comfortable with it and accept it for what it is. We don't make a big huge issue out of it. He knows it, I know it, all is good.

It doesn;'t offend me personally, and I am christian. But I do find it completely ridiculous and childish on the master's part.

Looking at this from an academic point of view my answer is yes and no, depends on the peoples’ religious beliefs.

If one is looking at Biblical religions, then no. Since there is only one God which people are to worship and if you are worshiping a dom/me then you are worshiping a false idol.

Now yes, if you look at different religions. Many have living deities, and there is no reason the dom/me can’t be seen as one. This would normally encompass ritual elements, moral/ethical belief system and a few other things defined as religion (which isn’t a very clear definition within academic circles as it is).

The comparison between roles I don’t have a problem with, since there is a lot of extreme stuff in religion as it is (an example of this is nuns in the Middle Ages). I’d worry a little bit about someone who declares that they are God if they are raised and live in American culture just because it’s seen as more outside of society, and I’d worry about the follower (submissive) being cut off from society. Yet at the same time it could be done in a very healthy way (really comes down to the people involved).
