I prefer a younger sub, but I do look older than I am (28). Some like that, some don't.
I've had older women and that worked out just fine.

I agree.
My general rule of thumb is within 10 years.  This is not because I seek to exclude people, but merely because I find that I don't have much in common with people that are too far away from my own age and I am seeking an ltr, so conversation and shared experiences is important to me.

I like doms to be younger....mid twenties to young thirties.  It adds a bit to the humiliation factor that I love.

Age matters as much as it matters to you.

On many levels, age doesn't really mean much when it comes to the individual.  There really are lots of mature, ready, and open younger people who fit in very well with mature, ready and open older people.

That being said, one's age IS something of an indicator about them- the culture you grow up in is a HUGE influence on your interests and perspectives, the politics, diseases, education style, music, fashion, art, books, they all get experienced in different ways in different times at different ages.

That's not a killjoy- I amaze people all the time by bringing up movie and song trivia from decades before I was born (my mother raised me right).  And for someone older who ENJOYS discovering new things, a younger person is perfect as a gateway into the next generation of cultural discoveries.

As well there IS something to be said for the stability of the old.  Younger people have to go through life stages- finding yourself, job, family, establishing yourself as an adult (a process which is much farther extended than in previous generations, again not a bad thing necessarily).  They often don't have the same problems and responsibilities as older people- ex's, kids, health care, etc.  There's an element of rapid change and instability in being with someone younger.

Finally, none of these has to matter to any great degree at all.  We ARE all still people and May'December relationships are a LOT more common than people believe, and they can work out just great.  It's not all just older men in mid-life crisis and younger women sponging.  We each individually have our own histories, quirks, problems, perspectives and joys.  Age won't take that away and it doesn't make it impossible for a relationship to work.

As long as you keep everything in perspective, and really examine things, as long as you can use the strengths that you have together and become a cohsive unit- then age can be just another part of the person, something you sometimes love and something you sometimes can't stand.

To all the Doms, Dommes, Masters and Mistresses out there, do you prefer your submissives or slaves to be younger or older than yourself? Does it really matter, and if it does matter, do have a reason for that?

Outside of sexual perference, no.

Girls younger than 18 look like kids to me.  Girls older than 25 look sort of elderly.  So, I tend to perfer within this range.

I used to think age did not matter,as age was to me a mind thing, being you are as old as you feel but then I was married to a woman twelve years older. The differences soon became apparent, the different age group, expectations and memories we could not share.

Now bearing in mind my experience, future relationships I would look in my own age group and how old we both are physically, does not mean we are that old mentally, thus keeping with one is as old as they feel.

My sub is younger than me, and I prefer her.

But honestly, age isn't an issue.  Compatibility is.

Yeah, yeah.  Boohoo.  You're 39.  And my penis impales women in China.  Yeah, right.

Edit:
Okay, so some women over 25 look old.  Some look like they're 18 and just screwing with your head.

For me it is not so much a matter of age, but a matter of maturity and common interests.  We must be able to carry on a conversation outside of a scene or it gets boring quickly.
I have had subs or pets the same age, older than me and now my current pet is quite younger.

I don’t care one way or the other I just feel the need to type something. I’m a serial typist. If there was a film where someone had a bomb stuck to the underside of their chair and say if the typing speed fell below a certain words per minute it would detonate I could have the lead role. Obviously I would have to star opposite someone like Sandra Bullock. I’ve sent my ideas off to Hollywood and expect immanent news. ‘Speed three: keyboard of death’ may be in movie theatres before you know it.

edit: denote = detonate word you failed me again damn you!

Of course.

Most people who have an age target are usually after something that is an indirect result of age, though.  Beauty, experience, innocence, maturity.  But if you know what you are looking for, naturally you shouldn't hesitate to require it.

It's true that the indirect qualities, which are typically assumed to coorelate with age, probably affect the perference of age range greatly.

Then again, as Aileen68 brought up, younger Dom's could humilate older sub's pretty well.  I sort of have this mental image of using her with her bottom up in the air as a table while doing work in the library, with her dressed up in her nerdy librarian glasses.

Heh.  I'm too easily amused.
