I understand that many have a uniform fetish. Since I have tended toward jobs where wearing a uniform was a part of the job, I just don't get the fascination with uniforms. Could someone please explain it to me? (It would be nice to understand the people who start salivating when I go to a munch directly from work.)

I dunno- what's something that really DOES turn you on?  How would you explain that to someone who didn't get it?

Uniforms tend to give an automatic air of authority- a social status recognized universally, like a collar, gives cool points to people.

The colors and fabrics as well tend to be very sensual and evoke a sense of rugged difficult journeys underneath the polished exterior- a very sexy idea for most.

Thank you. After wearing a set of scrubs for 12-13 hours I just don't see them as erotic. Give me a kitchen full of food and a bunch of hungry people to feed and that soothes my soul. I suppose most people don't understand my particular kink either.

For me, it kind of depends on the uniform in question.  I don't think scrubs would do it for me.  I detest hospitals and most doctors make me cringe in fear.

Miltary or similar style uniforms...oooh la la.  Maybe its because my hubby wears one all the time.  I'm not really sure I could explain it fully.  But it has something to do with the authority implicit in the uni, with the air the person in it carries, like self-assurance and superiority, especially when you know the work they've done and the degree to which they have busted their butts to earn the right to put it on.

While it's not a fetish for me, I do enjoy seeing a man in uniform. Well, certain uniforms. There's just something about the order of a crisp and clean police or military uniform which appeals to my aesthetic senses and penchant for authority figures. Scrubs.. not so much.

Mmmm...a man in a military uniform....oh yeeeeeaaaaah....

You hit the nail right on the head, though, sis.  In the case of our honey, I see his uniform as a symbol of authority.  And let me just say...that symbol looks daaaaaaaamn good on him!  Of course, I think he has an air of confidence, self-assurance and authority no matter what clothing he's wearing (or not wearing as the case may be).

Wait till the first time he's sick.  The "or not wearing as the case may be" will fade relatively quickly.  He's a baby.  ;-)

Nothing hotter than a girl in her birthday uniform.

Still, I think that's self-explanitory.

:-)  ah well.  You did point out something I missed though...and that is the order.  Given how much time I spend around military guys, there's something just as dissatisfying about people who wear the uniform poorly.  I think even within the subset of military uniforms there's also several that just don't do it for me.  Like the whites.  Ugh what a god awful uniform.

I mourned the day hubby got promoted.  The greatest fantasy day of my life was watching his ship come in with about 150 guys in cracker jacks (the enlisted navy dress blues) on the flight deck of the ship. O...M...G. Heaven.  Unfortunately, with his promotion, he now wears those hideous khakis.  UGH x 2.

So now I have to drool over sailors younger than me to even get a glimpse of that sweetness.

Uniforms don't do it for me,as I have little respect for authority.Plus having had in the past, wear a stiff, itchy, uncomfortable military uniform for seven years,I have had enough of them.

Uniforms are a symbol. They can be a symbol of either authority and domination, or submission and subservience. For example, the french maid's uniform, or the catholic school girl's uniform. They can also be a signifier of innocence... this is probably why the japanese have a thing for girls in schoolgirl outfits as well. Uniforms are a great way of accelerating a scene, and establishing roles very quickly. If a sub walks into my house, and I'm wearing a cop's uniform, they know they are about to re-enact an episode of "Cops" only with a much happier ending for both of us. Or, if I've laid out the french maid's uniform for her, that she is going to go through some rather intense re-training because of a poor performance in cleaning my house.

To use a common term that the kids do these days, it's "Cosplay." (Costume play) What's not to like? We call our sessions "scenes" we role play... it speaks to the theatricality of BDSM. Not for everyone, sure. But you have to admit, it does have a fun side!

You dont get it, beacuse you are exposed to it on a daily unending basis..Ex military wife here,,been there, done that,eh!..same with medical gear..I am a nurse..again, not a turn on..and cop uniforms look too much like military to do it for me..so essentially that leaves firemen regalia..now there oolaoui!!!!..~drool~..Tempting

When I was much younger, I used to tell my friends I was highly turned on by the girls that worked in the Banana on a Stick places in the mall. They had to have the most ridiculous outfit I've ever seen for a uniform, and it just seemed like the perfect uniform fetish for someone like me.

I recently toured the US Naval Academy at Annapolis and felt quite impressed every time a man (or woman) in uniform walked by.  Some of these men just reek of self control, power, and self discipline.  I personally enjoy seeing a well poised, well put together, intelligent person - male or female, uniform or basic suit.

On our tour was a young man, dressed in frumpy clothes which appeared as though he just tossed them on himself.  His hair was a mess, he slouched, and his shoes were worn.  Compare that to a soldier walking by and it's no question who will catch my attention first.

Full military regalia can get to me, not so much cops, firemen etc though.   I'm not sure sexual preference and turnons are all that explainable as much as they just are.

Okay so I know that I am a little late of this one to drop any real help but I wanted to expand on what has already been said.

Uniforms in general tend to show a persons place in society such as the Military and Civil Servants, They tend to show an automatic authority and were designed to do so, there is a reason most get tense when the cop walks up to the car to write you a ticket and there is a reason you instinctually do as they say, and that is because we are hard wired to respect thier authority over us.

You mentioned Scrubs and I would like to comment on that one because as a Dominant Male even I get excited by scrubs. It is the simplicity of them that excite me. Admitted I am more excited by the solid toned ones then the designed ones, but it is whatr happened in my head that makes it enjoyable. I believe they would be east to tear off and it is that belief that helps me to achieve positive thought toward those who wear them. I find scrubs sexy! they leave very little to the imagination and offten I wonder if they are wearing Panties and Bra's under them or if they have a whole nother outfit on underneath.

With regular clothes I don't get this way because it is common place in society, but not uniforms, they are only seen in places they belong or rarely in public, another thing that adds to the excitement is the fact that you don't see them all the time.

Back on the subject of why Uniforms are a Fetish can all be attributed to the fact that Uniforms are designed to be well fitting crisp clean outfits that give the wearer an appearance of being clean and tidy and this makes (In my opinion) anyone more attractive and desirable.

Just my two cents in a sea of pocket change.

As Always
