Uniforms are a symbol. They can be a symbol of either authority and domination, or submission and subservience. For example, the french maid's uniform, or the catholic school girl's uniform. They can also be a signifier of innocence... this is probably why the japanese have a thing for girls in schoolgirl outfits as well. Uniforms are a great way of accelerating a scene, and establishing roles very quickly. If a sub walks into my house, and I'm wearing a cop's uniform, they know they are about to re-enact an episode of "Cops" only with a much happier ending for both of us. Or, if I've laid out the french maid's uniform for her, that she is going to go through some rather intense re-training because of a poor performance in cleaning my house. To use a common term that the kids do these days, it's "Cosplay." (Costume play) What's not to like? We call our sessions "scenes" we role play... it speaks to the theatricality of BDSM. Not for everyone, sure. But you have to admit, it does have a fun side! "If all the world's a stage, then I demand better lighting design." -any third year acting student.
