PaHunk, I stood out in the hot sun for three hours each for two days collecting for the Red Cross for Katrina.

Thanks for that, Popeye.

A lot of folks did what they could,in their own way.Anything from sending money/stuff,to fucking going there with their power boats to search for and fetch people.I still have memories of those poor dogs and cats, who starved to death, because there was no time or space to save them.People were breaking their necks, just to save people, let alone their pets.Poor pups.

Ya know Popeye, most everyone in America stepped up and did the rights things after Katrina,as well as 9/11,etc.And we will again. That`s what we do.

America`s not the problem. We are a good people, with big hearts and helping hands. No matter what,we have always helped one another in times of need.No one got into political arguments, while men and women were dying. We got right to it and worried about the small stuff later.

Nope,America is brave and courageous, generous and empathetic, compassionate yet strong. There`s nothing wrong with America or Americans.
We just need leadership that`s worthy of us.

Owner, well we can agree on that!
In an emergency situation I think everyone wants to do something to help!
I was awful proud of my Brothers in the USCG working non stop day after day rescuing people.
I couldn't just sit at home and do nothing while they were working.
I collected about $1,100 for the Red Cross in two days.
Plus, I got to meet a lot of nice people in the process.
I called them up and asked them, "what do you need?"
"Money right now!"
"Ok, I'll be right up, give me a couple of collection cans and I'll see if I can fill them up."
FEMA dropped the ball bigtime on that one!
People wouldn't "release" supplies without paperwork!
Hell, just keep them going!
Again, the wrong type of people in the govt for that type of job!
I can almost garauntee that they all have "degrees" and are used to sitting at desks shuffling papers instead of actually "doing" something!
There are plenty of former military people out here who "know" how to get things done in a hurry in a situation like that who the govt (should) be hiring in positions like that!
If they were in those jobs we wouldn't be seeing thousands of trailers sitting in mud fields empty 200 miles away while people who need them are homeless!

The Nobel Peace prize became a joke when it was given to Arrafat, of course Gore deserves one.

No I do not think he deserves it but then again I am not on the Nobel Committee. What they awarded it to him for was "efforts to spread awareness of man-made climate change and laying the foundations for counteracting it." and perhaps he did accomplish that all other opinions aside.

Al Gore is a fraud. The guy is probably one of the biggest hypocrites in the United States. His family fortune was made by tobacco farming and dirty oil politics. If you want to read up on some twisted crap Al Gore, Bill Richardson, and the Clinton administration did... read up on what Occidental Petrolium did in Columbia in 1999 and 2000. The ties of Occidental to the Gore family go back DECADES.... And the former CEO was a communist with very shady business deals with the Soviet Union.

I wonder why none in the liberal media has dared ask Al about this....

The man is a total fraud. And dont you people think for one second that the Democrats arn't waist deep in oil as well. Big Oil isn't dumb enough to not have a bunch of Democrats in their back pocket as well. Occidental especially has given the DNC enormous amounts of campaign donations over the years.
And Occidental is just the tip of the iceberg.

Of course Al Gore deserves the Nobel Peace Prize.

The Nobel Committee has had NO credibility since they gave the prize to Henry Kissinger and Le Duc Tho, in 1973 for ending the Vietnam War, which didn't end until 1975.  Al Gore has had NO credibility since the day he was born.  So, I'd say this is a match made in heaven.

 He has plenty of credibility.

He was elected to the Senate multiple times, the VP twice, and won the presidential election in 2000,and had it stolen. He also got more than half the votes, which also points towards having some credibility.I`d say that counts as "credibility",certainly more credibility than you,or I.

The flack he`s getting is political, and meaningless. Most of it,is silly name calling and whining. The mocking tone and the schoolyard/childish behavior says more about his detractors ,then is does about Gore.

In all these threads and  posts, I`ve seen maybe 5 or 6 posts critical of Gore, that actually made an argument and engaged the subject. The rest has been  name calling. From the most ugly and vile ,to silly and childish, and all meaningless.

No wonder he`s not thinking about running again.

All you get is garbage thrown at you daily, by America`s rabble.

If you look at the list of winners, he doesn't rank too badly. One could always say it is a bad list and there are some duff choices on the list but the choice of Gore seems a respectable choice to me and there is no one at this moment in time that immediately stands out and deserves the prize more.

So you think nationalists are ideal candidates for the peace prize?

In an alternative universe I guess Hitler would have been chuffed to bits with his nomination.

I still think "Warmers" should be made to wear "uniforms" like the "UFO" people.
I don't know how they can be so naive as to believe anything that a "politician" would tell them.
They, and Bush supporters are singing the same tune.
And, if you don't agree with them you're a ....."Non-Believer."
Now where have we heard that before?

It's sad, but a little funny at the same time, to watch Gore Derangement Syndrome kick into full gear on the right. Paul Krugman probably put it best.

http://www.nytimes.com/2007/10/15/opinion/15krugman.html?hp

quote:

The worst thing about Mr. Gore, from the conservative point of view, is that he keeps being right. In 1992, George H. W. Bush mocked him as the “ozone man,” but three years later the scientists who discovered the threat to the ozone layer won the Nobel Prize in Chemistry. In 2002 he warned that if we invaded Iraq, “the resulting chaos could easily pose a far greater danger to the United States than we presently face from Saddam.” And so it has proved.

But Gore hatred is more than personal. When National Review decided to name its anti-environmental blog Planet Gore, it was trying to discredit the message as well as the messenger. For the truth Mr. Gore has been telling about how human activities are changing the climate isn’t just inconvenient. For conservatives, it’s deeply threatening.

Like many people I do not have a problem with reducing pollution, in fact I am all for it.  But to reduce pollution undser the false pretense that the sky is falling only makes me want to go the other way just to keep them for separateing me from my money.

The oil companies locked us into oil so let them clean up the mess!  LOL

Oh and as I have said many times to those accusing me of bush bashing, wait till you see me bash dems!  LOL

As much as I HATE puns - I'm reminded of this very old joke...

John the farmer was in the fertilized egg business. He had several hundred young layers (hens), called "pullets" and eight or ten roosters, whose job was to fertilize the eggs.

The farmer kept records and any rooster that didn't perform went into the soup pot and was replaced. That took an awful lot of his time so he bought a set of tiny bells and attached them to his roosters. Each bell had a different tone so John could tell from a distance, which rooster was performing. Now he could sit on the porch and fill out an efficiency report simply by listening to the bells. The farmer's favorite rooster was old Butch, and a very fine specimen he was, too. But on this particular morning John noticed old Butch's bell hadn't rung at all!

John went to investigate. The other roosters were chasing pullets, bells-a-ringing. The pullets, hearing the roosters coming, would run for cover. But to Farmer John's amazement, Butch had his bell in his beak, so it couldn't ring. He'd sneak up on a pullet, do his job and walk on to the next one. John was so proud of Butch, he entered him in the Boone County Fair and Butch became an overnight sensation among the judges.

The result...

The judges not only awarded Butch the 'No Bell Piece Prize' but they also awarded him the 'Pulletsurprise' as well.  Clearly Butch was a politician in the making: who else but a politician could figure out how to win two of the most highly coveted awards on our planet by being the best at sneaking up on the populace and screwing them when they weren't paying attention?
