I enjoy going to fetish clubs when I have the money (poor student, woe), but I have a bit of a dilemma when it comes to what clothes to wear. See, I don't own any fetish-y clothes, nothing leather, or rubber, or traditionally "kinky"... mostly, when it's come down to it, I've gone for a very simple schoolboy look, and that seems to fall acceptably under the "uniform" section of fetish-y outfits. I was wondering, though, if you had any suggestions for anything else I could try, bearing in mind that I really don't have the money for anything fancy, and leather and rubber generally don't appeal to me.

I'd be very grateful for any help you could offer. :)

A plain black tshirt and dark jeans will always do. What type of budget do you have, ballpark?

I'm actually teaching a class this month on budget fetishwear for one of our local education groups, so this is a favorite subject of mine.

you don't need fetish wear, just go as you are and you should be accepted well.

I try to keep my frivolous spending to about £40 a month - I think that's roughly $80, isn't it?? (I'm terrible with money conversion, lol), I can generally go a little bit over, but not by too much.

I'd love to be able to go to a club just in street clothes, I think it would make things much more relaxed and easy-going, but unfortunately a lot of the clubs I go to insist on a fetish dress-code. :(

Another thing to consider is what sort of look or material you *do* like -- the uniform/schoolboy look you mentioned is easy to do, and is a lot of fun. Another good material as far as being lower cost and easier care is pvc (I call it "the cotton of my fetish life.") But it really depends entirely on what makes you feel good and look good, and what you like, and just a piece or two can be used in many different ways. Feel free to email me if you want some specific resources for your location.

Try thrift shops. Black jeans, black boots and a button down black shirt should work. But haunt the local thrift shops for something you could use at very low cost.

sodsta -> RE: Club wear? (10/14/2007 5:15:35 PM)

I think I'm more into softer materials. PVC is breathable, too, isn't it? That comes in handy in a hot club, lol. I once wore a black, long-sleeved fishnet top underneath a white shirt. A lot of people say that a simple black top and trousers will be enough in most places, but do you have any ideas about maybe spicing that up a bit? Anything I could add to an outfit like that to make it more... well... "kinky"?

sodsta -> RE: Club wear? (10/14/2007 5:17:27 PM)

Oooh, I actually hadn't thought of that. Here's me looking at expensive websites and bemoaning my lack of cash. Thanks. :D I shall go seek out some local thrift shops.

PVC is somewhat breatheable (at least more than latex or a material like that.) Get a pair of simple (but snug if you have the figure for it!) pvc pants, and then use your fishnet top,  or get a pvc top and wear it with dark pants/jeans. Even if you have the plain tshirt and jeans, make sure they fit well and flatter you.

You  can also do ebay searches under the names of the expensive brands that you like -- a lot of us sell off old fetish wear when we tire of it or outgrow it.

Thanks. That seems fairly easy and affordable. :)

Awesome. Thanks again. :D

Fetish wear can be anything- since anything can be a fetish.  My partner has a fetish for sneakers and blue jeans.  I'm exceedingly thrilled about this because I can be comfy and still have him drooling.

My particular preferences are on the glamorous end- ball gowns, tulle skirts, many colors and metallics.  You won't see me in black/leather usually unless it's a specific leather event.  I also enjoy wearing native clothing from other places because it looks exotic here.  Camo, chain mail, pvc, corsets, stoles, hats, scarves are all in my wardrobe as well.

And I've worn blatantly kinky clothes to vanilla places and vanilla clothes to kinky places.  It's much more important to me that it look clean, neat, and work for the body (and be fairly in style) rather than it looking "kinky"

Yeah, I agree that comfort is an important factor to take into consideration. And I feel a lot more comfortable in something simple, like the school uniform, than I probably would in something leather. I'd love to be able to just go to a club in street clothes, but a lot of clubs won't allow that, unfortunately.

And thanks for the links. I'm sure I'll find some helpful hints in there. :D

Could always try the Angus Young look from AC/DC.

Damocles809 -> RE: Club wear? (10/14/2007 6:11:25 PM)

Can't go wrong with some kind of shiny black shoes, black slacks or jeans, a black button down shirt.

And take some black unlined leather gloves with you.  Put them on if the place is a bit more formal than you expect.

sodsta -> RE: Club wear? (10/14/2007 6:30:03 PM)

haha, it's not too far off what I've been doing. The long shorts are amusing, though. :)

Thanks for the advice. :D

It's funny, I was going through some very similar concerns only recently, and was musing on how annoying it was that I, who have no clothing kink whatsoever (for myself...see below), have to dress up in leather, latex or some completely not-me type of clothing in order to be admitted to, and to fit in at a fetish club.

I asked the owners/organizers about it, and it was explained to me that there are both practical and kinky reasons for it.  The practical reason being, that you simply do not get as many undesirables if you enforce a dress code, and that the people who show up are often more genuine about expressing their kink than those who'd not go through the trouble of dressing a bit differently.  The second reason was simply that it is extremely pleasureable to a lot of people to be surrounded by the trappings and look of kink, and even though I personally might enjoy a more 'regular' dress (I highly enjoy going out wearing a suit, while my sub wears skimpy outfits, including corsets and stockings), me being dressed like I was going to a board meeting might be extremely off-putting for some people, unless there was a way I could kink it up (anyone holding a leash and wearing a smoking jacket is kinky).

In the end, I decided it was worth it, and I do get a certain pleasure in seeing everyone at a gathering expressing themselves in off-street clothing, even if it is not strictly my thing.
