If you're going for chain, I'd reccomend something like 'machine chain' or 'twist chain'... I don't know exactly what it's called but it's made for use in pulleys and it lays flat when you straighten out all the links. You should probably make sure the links have been welded shut, because they won't snag as much, and they're slightnly stronger that way. If they're not, I heard that if the break in the link is in the middle of the link, it's stronger and more resistant to breakage than if the break is at the end of the link. Something like that.
