MissSCD -> Baby Talk? (10/18/2007 12:05:52 PM)

Maybe I missed the memo, but I just don't get this baby talk stuff.  I like the old Sir/Ma'am routene when talking with subs.
Just curious as to how many like the baby talk verses Sir/Ma'am addressing in conversations and why?  I know you are going to tell me why, so I thought I would make it easy on you.

Regards, MissSCD

I think I'm missing something here. Can you elaborate a little more on what you mean.

Tigrita -> RE: Baby Talk? (10/18/2007 12:13:53 PM)

Baby talk completely squicks me.  No why.  Just does.  Cringing, gagging, eeeeeewwww do not be in my presence talking baby talk!

boytoy4female -> RE: Baby Talk? (10/18/2007 12:13:55 PM)

As the son of a general, a southerner and a sub, I always use the terms "sir" and "Maam". This is a sign of respect and courtesy and is much better than the grunting and babytalk of most people, even outside of BDSM.

I am always amazed at how many take offense to my courtesy. Maam is much nicer than bitch. But, I feel the majority choose to devolve instead of evolve.

Id be honored to call you "ma'am"

You didn't miss the memo.  This has been discussed in several versions on the boards before...the differences between respect...which should be earned...and common courtesy and how many do not seem to get the idea that addressing someone by "hello Sir or Ma'am or Mr. So and So or Miss So and So" or even by their first name...Hello John, I am Mary...is a matter of courtesy and not necessarily an indication of respect.  Sounds a whole lot better to me than "Yo dude, glad to meetcha".

But then...call me old-fashioned.  I still like the idea of being called "Sir" by a submissive who has agreed to submit to me or, at the very least, by my first name rather than be called nothing because they "aren't sure what to call me".  What is really amazing to me is how many people do not seem to get that there is simple pleasure to be found in having someone use your name when speaking to you and not just continue to throw sentence after sentence at you without ever using it.

How is addressing someone you don't know at all with their name rather than a title that they haven't earned yet baby talk though?

MistressHolly71 -> RE: Baby Talk? (10/18/2007 6:19:52 PM)

I can't stand it either. I'm glad it's not just me.

came4U -> RE: Baby Talk? (10/18/2007 6:25:34 PM)

I already sound like a kid.  Telemarketers ask if my daddy is home. [8|]

Baby talk in kink? I read a convo on here about that (in a different topic name I guess).  I couldn't find it for the life of me though.

MissSCD -> RE: Baby Talk? (10/18/2007 6:37:02 PM)

I appreciate the answers.  It looks like the Sir/Ma'ams are leading right now.
I think mine is more military than anything.  I call my kid customers Sir.

DiurnalVampire -> RE: Baby Talk? (10/18/2007 6:40:22 PM)

Babytalk is perfectly appropriate with Angel and I, he is infantalized.  So, in OUR kink, yah I do it alot.
In general, I dont tend to, unless you consider calling someone by a nickname baby talking.

I never did baby talk with my actual munchkin and I don't do it with partner's, never have and I will go out on a limb and say it's not gonna happen.

I do send casual emails to people I know that start with 'hey doll' or that sorta thing; its with people that I know well and its mutual.

Baby talk is for babies, and last time I checked, I'm not a baby; then again, babytalk has ALWAYS been outlawed around my house. I haven't done it for just over 27 years and have no intention on starting.

chellekitty -> RE: Baby Talk? (10/18/2007 8:48:19 PM)

i don't use baby talk to babies, it delays development....i ocassionally use it to whiney people to mock them when they won't shut the fuck up...after multiple warnings...
in the scene, i don't use Sir and Ma'am for every Dominant i meet because they don't have "Dominant" displayed across their forehead...though that would be helpful...i'll have to email the magistrate extraordinaire of sadistic affairs about that....or perhaps the pope of rope..
outside of the scene, if i need to get someone's attention and i don't know their name, i don't care if they are Dom or sub or old or young or black or white or purple or half kangaroo...i will call them Sir or Ma'am, as gender appropriate...

Actually it doesnt delay it, but help it.  Baby talk is in such a pattern that it attracts their attention.  The cadence of it, the sing song affect, the high and low notes.  Baby talk is very good for them.  If you'd like research it.  (i do believe i heard what you said years ago and that was true for THEN, but as things change - its not true for now... lol)

Now what is baby talk among adults?  How odd

I only have a hard time being called Ma'am, because in the military we were trained that the only people you call maam or sir were those in charge. Those in charge earned being called that.

CrazyC -> RE: Baby Talk? (10/18/2007 9:40:20 PM)

I don't understand the point of baby talk. I never talked to my um with since it seemed demeaning, so i get annoyed hearing it from adults.

i don't know what the research says but i know from experience that all three of my mothers children, including me (well not from first hand memory, but my mother relating) that we all first spoke, including my brother with downs syndrome, at 6 months old and she absolutely refused to let anyone speak baby talk to us...so...maybe we were just quick learners...i don't know....
