cyberdude611 -> What's up with the Clintons and the Chinese? (10/19/2007 6:17:28 PM)

Another fundraising problem for Hillary. And yep, it concerns the Chinese again.

So what should the analogy be?
Saudi Arabia is to Bush as China is to Clinton?

So far Hillary has raised more money than any presidential candidate in history. You have to really wonder where all this money is coming from. Somehow minimum wage chinese immigrant workers are sending very large sums of cash to the Clinton campaign upwards of $2,000 each. You know these poor people dont have that sort of cash to be handing out. So where is the money coming from and who is telling them where to put it?

...fair point......what is sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander. If Bush can take Saudi money then Clinton can take Chinese....

HaveRopeWillBind -> RE: What's up with the Clintons and the Chinese? (10/19/2007 7:29:51 PM)

China today would not be experiencing as much of an economic boom as it currently is had not Bill Clinton awarded them "Most Favored Nation" trading status. In a great way the Chinese feel they owe the Clintons a great deal. It's no surprise then that they would prefer to see Hillary in office than almost anyone else.

Personally I feel that was the biggest mistake of the previous Clinton administration.

OrionTheWolf -> RE: What's up with the Clintons and the Chinese? (10/19/2007 7:58:35 PM)

Both are equally wrong. Your comment is justification for the Clinton's to do the wrong thing. Instead, there needs to be accountability for the wrong, no matter who commits it.

Lets not forget the fact that Bill sold military secrets to the Chinese during his reign. They were 10 years behind us untill Bill got campaign money from them. There are even photos of him accepting the envelope in the White House..

Another cool-aid drinker`s myth.

It was Bush I,..who sold the technology to China, and started the use of China,.. to put US satellites into space .Sorry...

Try the grape flavor....

What's so wrong with Cool-Aide, anyhow?  I mean I get it's supposed to be this condescending bit towards those that support the current administration, but, seriously.. "cool-aid drinker"?  Is Cool-Aide somehow determental to one's intelligence?  Do you think smart people don't drink Cool-Aide?  Was there some kind of scientific conference discussing Cool-Aide that I'm unaware of?

trappedinamuseum -> RE: What's up with the Clintons and the Chinese? (10/19/2007 10:32:53 PM)

Nope...smart people drink Kool-Aid.

luckydog1 -> RE: What's up with the Clintons and the Chinese? (10/19/2007 11:02:29 PM)

Actually Reagan was the first to issue a waiver for the Chinese to luanch a US made sattalite.  Bush I allowed 3.  Clinton gave 11.  Bush zero.  There are a few things to note about these.  The reagan and bush sattalites were for old school communicatins sattalites to be owned and operated by nations like Australia (with australias knowledge that the Chinese would have them for a while-possibly compromised).  This compares with Clintons allowing of state of the art imaging sattalites (which require massive stabilisation technology-to get good pictures- which have myriads of millitary uses.  Also the Clinton sattalites were for US use (after passing through chinese hands and possible tampering).

Then if anyone is interested look up how Clinton allowed the transfer of Supercomputers to the Chinese.  Not as sexy as missle technology (stabalising technology) but far more problematic to us and usefull to them.

More important to note is that Clinton took the power of deciding what technology can be transfered away from the Defense dept, and gave it to Commerce.

And Clinton accepted lots of illegal chinese cash.

"Cool-aid drinker", refers to the drug like spell, that neo-cons,.. and other gullible(however well meaning) people seem to have.Like the cool-aid`s been "spiked" w/ some kind of brain-washing drug.

Like in the "Invasion of The Body Snatchers" movie, where the victims have a thousand mile stare, and talk like drudged zombies,Cool-aid drinkers have the same quality.
Like you have to be high to have it make sense.

It`s a word used for those that defend in indefensible, and turn logic on it`s head,in favor of party loyalty. It`s also the straight faced way that some do it,,lol, like no one else sees that the "Emperor has no clothing".

A cool-aid drinker thinks that Saddam Hussein/Iraq had a roll in 9/11,that Al Gore claimed to have invented the internet, that
there were real WMD in Iraq, that Osama bin-laden doesn`t matter, that Valerie Plame was not an active CIA agent, when the WH blew her cover,as a WMD analysts/data gatherer. That things in Iraq, are going well, that bush is a competent and reliable leader.

You need the "cool-aid",just to cope.Understand?

This term has been use for bushies and his minions, for years.Surprised you haven`t heard it before, but than again, you`re a 20 yo kid.You were 13 when bush 1st took office.

btw,it doesn`t refer to the actual beverage.

DomKen -> RE: What's up with the Clintons and the Chinese? (10/19/2007 11:32:59 PM)

"Drinking the cool-aid" and associated metaphors are from the Jim Jones' People's Temple mass murder/suicide. A rather distasteful turn of phrase IMO.

Satellite technology is a big deal but that transfer was already done by Bush I. However Super computer tech was a great deal for the US. We sold them a bunch of clunkers for mega bucks only a few years before the tech became avaialable to make super computers from big piles of old PC's.

I'm no fan of China but I would rather do business with them, I understand chinese culture and motivations, over the Saudi's. China may have unsavory internal policies and is an active threat to my profession due to their open contempt for intellectual property law but the Saudi's want me and mine dead.

Also after looking at the article in question even if all this money is fraudulent, the LA Times hints that some might be but seems doubtful it all is, it is chump change. A $380,000 fundraiser? In 2004 Bush's Pioneers raised $32.7 million while the Rangers contributed at least $44.2 million.

Actually, the phrase is"they must be drinking the cool-aid".

The Jonestown reference ,is only one use of the term.

The bush version has nothing to do with poison cool-aid,just drugged.

It`s a joke, and a way for normal, logical, reality based people to cope(through humor) with the Orwellian bush presidency.

Let's get real. We all live in a liberal democracy, the US is a liberal democracy, in a liberal democracy money buys politicians so what is the big deal?

So who were you expecting?  The Spanish Inquisition? [;)]

Or for the burgeoning superpower to waste their money buying no-name politicians from the waning superpower?

BTW, the drinking Kool-Aid reference is from the 60s, long before Guyana.

Read Tom Wolfe.

I drank a looot of Kool-Aid in the 1960's. We didn't get the electric kind until the 1970's in my neighborhood, though.

DomKen -> RE: What's up with the Clintons and the Chinese? (10/20/2007 10:39:18 AM)

Actually the acid kool-aid stuff would not have resulted in the turn of phrase. However Jim Jones' massacre sure did.

PaHunk, I think you're correct there, "Nafta" was a much bigger misstake!

Owner, it was the Loral Corporation that handed over guidance technology to China.
The CEO was Bernard Schwartz, a major contributer to Clinton.
Before that one in three Chinese rockets exploded due to faulty guidance systems.
