          Do you think the article might have a different tone if this had been a conservative leaning show?

"Do we have some (expletive) security in this building," Maher yelled, "or do I have to come down there and kick his (expletive)?"
When security reached the man's aisle and the man resisted leaving, Maher ran into the seats and helped them push him out the door, shouting "Out! Out! Out!"
 
 
     That could easily be described as an assault.  Anybody think that will be the angle IF the big three run with the story?


        I sorta doubt it...

First, yes, I do think it would be presented differently had it been a right-wing show. I could be wrong, but I doubt it lol.
 
Having said that, I don't blame Maher (whom I like, generally) for booting the guy out.

       I like Maher too, Level.  We got the three free months of HBO when we moved, and his show is fun.  If he'd waited another week for that "terrorists were brave," crack, he might still be doing it on a network.

      I can laugh, or I can scream, at the double standard.  If Rush had done this, people would be howling for him to be arrested.  How many pages total, attacking him for a poor choice of words?

Oh my god, what bullshit.

I was watching that show when it happened, and I'm not even sure Maher actually touched the guy, as opposed to pushing the staff that were pushing the guy.

When I think of "assault" I don't think of little old Maher pushing a guy.

I agree. But I think the fact that Rush is unfair to some people, on a semi-regular basis, makes him an easy target for the same treatment. And he knows that, he's too smart not to. [:D]

Simply Michael, you obviously have a very limited vocabulary and are also not aware that Rush has an auction going on right now that he will match and so far it has reached two million dollars for a section of our military.

Actually, the auction is over, and it went to some non-profit providing benefits the US Government should.

Throwing out an unruly audience member is pretty acceptable in any show I know of. I don't see where the idea of a double-standard comes from. If he'd thrown out an invited guest for arguing with him, then I'd see getting upset.

Hecklers =/= protestors, especially in a privately-owned studio where a show is being filmed. Regardless of the program's political leanings, if some asshole in the audience is being loud and attempting to disrupt the program he should be removed, physically if necessary. The same goes for operahouses, movie theaters, etc.

I swear, you partisan parrots will try and turn anything and everything into a bloody cry-baby fest. Every damned website that allows comments is inundated with the same stupidity. Yahoo News disallowed commenting because of this bullshit, The San Diego Union-Tribune can't even post stories about fatal traffic accidents without someone going "it was probably a car loaded with illegal immigrants here to steal our jobs and the dirty liberals blah blah blah...". and whatever stupidity the left whinges on about. What the fuck is wrong with people? This is an off-topic forum on a BDSM website and 90% of posts are "waaah, some talking head  attention-whore who makes a living being an ignorant blowhard said such and such" or "ZOMG, a politician made a slip of the tongue!". Is everyone's lives really THAT empty and meaningless?

Very true. As Bill Maher pointed out, they're the audience, they're not there to debate, they're there to watch others debate.

And we can sit here and postulate about what might happen if Bill O'Reilly or Rush Limbaugh were placed in the same situation as Maher. And we can hypothesize about the consequences and ramifications of it. And we can even theorize about a double standard that may or may not exist.

Or, we can just let sleeping dogs lie, and if and when a similar situation happens to O'Reilly or Limbaugh, then we can discuss it as a real event, not a giant ball of what if's and probably's.

Thats the point, Rich -- how is the lack of outrage noteworthy? Someone in an audience was being disruptive, he was thrown out. There's nothing to be outraged about. I would expect the same thing to happen at Seaworld or a high school performance of Fiddler on the Roof.

You seem to be the only person who sees anything remotely political or partisan about it, which says more about YOUR objectivity than the folks you think you're scoring points on.

I have no idea what stupid point you are trying to make.  I support free speech, going into a commercial venue in order to disrupt it isn't free speech, it is the aural equivelent of graphiti and I think those bastards should be shot so how is that?

I support the right of Nazis and Commies being allowed to speak in public, but the Nazis try and come into my place of business and I kick the little fuckers out too.

I saw the show, and don't blame him one bit for having done that. 
It is not an assault to ask you to get out of my space, than eject you if you refuse to leave, and you insist on interrupting the conversation I'm having with my "invited" guests.  
I see you interjected Limbaughs name in the discussion;  I'm sure he has a whole different spin on it from what actually happened.  After all, Bill Maher makes fun of his hypocritical ass all the time. [:'(]    M
