A message to closet Republicans:

Ron Paul is an entertaining kook and no more than that. He was more or less cut from the same cloth as your average Libertarian (i.e. well-meaning, but wholly unrealistic and unwilling to factor into society what it really takes to maintain a robust economic system).

He`s more than that.Don`t sell him short. He has integrity and as far as I can tell,he`s honest and a straight shooter.

He`s no Ross Perot.

Neat video.  I actually didn't mind watching that one- it's just.. it holds attention and makes points rather well.

Yea, I'm likely to vote for a nutjob who associates with white supremacists, let one ghost write an article for him, and wants to dismantle the social safety net and return to the bad old days of laissez faire economics. NOT!

I'm not  going to respond to the allegations made. No one disputes the main point of the video, however. If you are a Democrat and you DO feel strongly that the war in Iraq is a disaster and DON'T feel there is a HUGE difference among the Democrats then you should register Republican and vote for Ron Paul on the promaries to guarantee an end to the war.

What's wrong with Denis Kucinich?

In terms of ending the war, nothing. Indeed Kucinich is the only other candidate (Gravel?) besides Ron Paul to have a (fairly) consistant understanding of the advantages of a non-interventionalist foreign policy (TRILLIONS saved; enough to solve ALL our other problems). I don't support him for other reasons.
The other thing is that he is getting NO traction and has NO money to break through the media's ignoring of him.
Ron Paul is climbing steadily in the polls and has a fairly large campaign fund that he has hoarded and is ready to start spending. He is now raising  much more EACH MONTH than Kucinich has raised all year.
Gallup has seen Paul go from 0% 6 months ago to 5% now... and he is about ready to START his advertising drive so that people actually get to hear about him.
His support is also (for several reasons) GREATLY underestimated in the polls.
He also has SO MANY volunteers that they are worth MILLIONS all by themselves.

No offense Dude, I like Paul, and his stance on immigration, but,
talk is cheap, and if you think anyone in Congress will end their relationship with special interest lobby's, your naive at best.

If by some bizarre twist of fate Ron Paul did get elected, do you honestly think he'd be able to accomplish any type of agenda with these congressional sell-outs?

Good point subrob. There are three points.
First FOREIGN POLICY is the area where paul would have the biggest impact.
That he could change dramatically for sure.
Second, Pauls election would presage a change in politics such that more congressmen like HIM would get elected in 2 years.
Finally he would veto any spending bill for a program that was not authorized by the federal government. he would then hope to get the veto upheld for the democrats favorite pork with Republican support and Republicans favorite pork with with democratic support. Remember all he needs is one-third to stand with him when he vetos spending in a given area.
I doubt he would be 100% successful but the change in corporate welfare would be HUGE.

I hear the bugle blowing, but I would at this point have some reservations, for example:  Where has this savior been heretofore and why does a lackluster performance in the house (or at anything) with a Texan's convictions make him any different than dubya?  Seems to me that many people voted for that fuckwad cause they 'felt' he had convictions, but nobody stopped to say, look this loser is not only stupid but insane......

So, what was Ron doing until he internet championed all this shit?

Curiosly,
Ron

There is an interesting answer to that, Ron. he has been a CONSISTANT advocate of every position he now holds. If you see him speak 20 years ago he advocates the SAME things he does now.
Dubya was a un-principled individual from day 1 who would say anything to get elected.
Paul has actually NOT been a "productive" congressman in any meaningful, traditional  sense. His constitutiional principles left him off to the the side of the deals in Washington.
He was the ONE congressman the lobbiests (sp?) simply didnt bother to visit!
His nickname in congress was "Dr. NO".
But as president at the LEAST he would end our interventionalist foreign policy by ending our policing if the world unless congress was actually willing to declare war.
Check out the link Ron www.ronpaul2008.com.
Hopefully he could also make a BIG dent in our corporate welfare state.

I am undecided me, not republican, not democrat, but I am very conservative.  Now, I am not going to even dig into anyone until november 5th, I figure a year is enough looking, and is about a year longer than most actually look.

But, these ever so popular contrarian positions, here-----He may be a voice crying in the wilderness, how can he work with congress outside if he can't work inside?

Ron

A good question, Ron, one I don't have an answer to. Would the "bully pulpit" power of the presidency be enough to get at least some of his views enacted? If he did manage to get elected, surely the "finger in the wind" types in Congress would be more amicable to working with him.....

Anyway, as much as I like the guy, I don't know if I'd want him to be president; I tend to believe in a safety net, and while I find most Libertarian ideas interesting, I'm not at all sure they'd work.

Paul's voting record, for perusal:

Well if we could get a liberatarian in the white house it would be a party of national stature then, break up this one(two) party system, which I am all for, even if the guy is a total Lyndon LaRouche.  Whatever it takes to get off the dime.

Ron
thx, I will check the voting record, for all candidates. The link will be useful.
