for fun and what do you do and how often

I work out with weights and do cardio. I work out to keep in shape and to help with back issues but really enjoy the rush I get from a good work out.
I work out from 4 - 6 times a week sometimes 2 times a day depending on my mid day work out.
work outs can include walks, any cardio, weights, ect.

Dragynsfury -> RE: who works out (10/21/2007 11:16:45 AM)

Swimming, running, push ups and situps 3-4x a week.  Gotta keep up my stamina for those all night long sessions!

Android -> RE: who works out (10/21/2007 12:47:33 PM)

I climb, indoors in the winter and outdoors in the summer, fair weather I know but much safer. I run between 3 and 4 miles a day, swim when I have the time to get to the pool and do yoga every day. I'd like to build up my shoulders and upper body over the winter to improve my climbing so I bought an inflatable gym ball and some dumbell weights. Does anyone have any other workout suggestions for toning and increasing the strength in my upper body?

Currently i do weight workouts 2-3 times a week.  My cardio is limited by joint problems, one of which is being replaced Nov. 9, but two more need it also.  I am still able to play golf about twice a week with a cart and i bowl in a league.  In the past i was a tennis pro and worked out a lot, which is probably why my joints have lost their cartilege.  After i recover from this surgery i hope to get back to regular walking and the treadmill.  Getting old sucks as far as the joints go.[:o]

Right now I'm on a pretty intense fitness regimen, in an attempt to lose some weight; so far it's working, as I've lost twenty pounds and am looking at losing more, and now have biceps, triceps and shoulders, of which I'm rather proud.

Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays are long cardio days for me: twenty minutes on a stationary bike, thirty minutes on an elliptical machine, and then at least ten minutes jogging on a treadmill, plus fifteen minutes of stretching to cool down afterwards.  Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays are weight training days, starting with ten minutes on the stationary bike, then leg presses, leg curls, shoulder presses, overhead presses, standing calf extensions, and some free weights, and then thirty minutes on an elliptical machine, and fifteen minutes of stretching.

Sundays I'm supposed to rest, but I usually end up walking my two dogs all over the mountains and back. [:D]

you can do all kinds of flys and rows with dumbells you can even use them with your gym ball and it would work your core as well and you will get a 2 for one, for your front delts I would would do incline press's, shoulders and lats would be pullovers also with your ball, that may cause you to expand your rib cage a little giving you a better V shape

I got my motivation a few months ago from a few things...but one of them was something someone said.
"Exercise for fun...not for the Goal" for some reason, it stuck. I am actually enjoying the hell out of this.

I walk up to 4 1/2 hours a day...once in the morning, once at night. 7 days a week

I have an Elliptical that i use in the afternoon from 15 - 28 minutes. 5 days a week

I am checking out a Gym next week because i found that i want more regimined workout to add.

I look forward to seeing Thorns when He gets home from overseas in February...... i have already dropped quite a few inches and pounds. I am going for the shock value on His face. *chucklez*

I workout while on the job (cardio step fusion instructor here )about an hr a day then 30 mins of stretching. I enjoy heading a class and get some benefits of the workout eventhough I must correct form of my students .

For my own workouts I enjoy the bosu and pilates and weight training. I perfer free weights over the machines .I like the feeling of my body after a good workout the good soreness is addictive .In a week's time I get about 10 hrs of working out plus I ride my bike back and forth to work .                           ~~~`Doll

Thanks for the info, that's really helpful. I really want to be toned and buff, the weight is fine, the muscle to fat ratio needs work though!

Rushemery -> RE: who works out (10/21/2007 5:17:59 PM)

I walk hike and bike for cardio no set times really, for weights I spend 40 mins to an hour during the afternoons and try and get at least 6 different exercises in both machines and free weights and try and stay at a 50 rep min per exercize about every few weeks I change up and lower all my weights for a week and do 50 reps per set as fast as I can which is a cardio work out in its self, higher reps gives you really good definition and shocks your muscle into growth, I dont want to be huge without good definition and working muscle

I think fish oil, glutamine, and vitiman E would help your joints there are more things but I cant recall them, would have to look it up, joints loose their cartilege because we loose that fluid between them from damage or being dehydrated or both, so if your thirsty your actually dehydrated or so Ive been told, good luck

I've been taking fish oil, glucosomin/chondriton, sometimes with MSM, and lots of other supplements and vitamins.  I think they have helped my knees but my hip is too far gone.  Joints also just wear out from overuse.  This is one drawback for those who workout a lot, especially running and sports like tennis.  We feel so good doing all that in our 20's, 30's and 40's but some of us pay for it in our 60's.

Thank you for the good luck wishes.

hisannabelle -> RE: who works out (10/22/2007 7:15:44 AM)

greetings rushemery,

i work out 3-6 hours a week, depending on pain levels, etc. i mostly do swimming and elliptical, sometimes yoga. i also walk a few miles a day.

respectfully,
annabelle.

Rushemery -> RE: who works out (10/22/2007 9:30:54 AM)

Pain sucks but I find working out helps most of the time, I would rather be soar from working out than have back pain and I think it releives it in a way, there are many herbs out there that help w/ different types of pain

hisannabelle -> RE: who works out (10/22/2007 4:26:41 PM)

greetings rushemery,

i've been in pretty much constant pain from various disabilities to one extent or another for fourteen years...and i have tried damn near every pain management technique in the books. so unless you know of any magical cures, it seems that for me at least i get to deal with the workout soreness AND the back (and everywhere else) pain...it's not an either/or proposition, unfortunately.

respectfully,
annabelle.

Rayne58 -> RE: who works out (10/23/2007 6:34:38 PM)

I go to the gym 2 or 3 times a week.  I do Pilates, cardio and weights once a week.  I try to go to a cycle class too.  I have a personal trainer who I see once a fortnight for new ideas and to do workouts where you need more than one person (like boxing which is a great stress reliever).

I have lost about 5kg (11lbs) over the course of a year, got a lot fitter and stronger, I am more toned and I like myself much more than I did [:)]

Argentopal -> RE: who works out (10/24/2007 6:31:07 PM)

sub4hire -> RE: who works out (10/26/2007 7:50:50 AM)

I grew up with a mountain in my backyard.  I literally went on hikes to the top 4 days out of every week while I was growing up.
As I aged, I quickly found out that I had messed up my knees from so much activity.  I had been working out and hiking.  Essentially my butt muscles were overdeveloped...etc..etc it came down to muscles pull.  Pulling both knee caps out of place to the tune of 1 1/2 inches each.  Creating such pain...etc.
Two new knee transplants were in my future.  Being who I am...I said no I'll do physical therapy.

So, now I work out for my pain free knees.  If I slack off my knees tell me so.  If I do what I should be doing I am pain free.  So, you could say I work out.  Not to lose weight...because all of my life I've had issue with losing.  However I work out because I want to be a strong person, I have no issue at all putting on more muscle.
I also love the rush when someone does try to attact me and they hit a brick wall...at least thats how its been described to me.

dawntreader -> RE: who works out (10/26/2007 8:58:24 AM)

Long distance hiking, power hiking, tribal yoga, bellydance, tai chi, total gym for specific muscle strengthening, kayaking, whitewater rafting.

i am training as a body worker so by doing various forms of massage all day long, i tend to stay pretty fit with all of this. i design my workouts based on my next adventure and that always gives me the motivation i need to stay with it and not get bored.
