The Mayan calander is extremely accurate, but ends on 12/21/2012. Some people have taken this to mean that the end of the world  will happen then. What does everyone think, does the world end then, and if so, how? Or did the Mayans just get tired and stop calculating?

This may help but its a little hard to follow it all. From reading the link i think the Maya worked out when a particular cycle will end, and not when the world will end.

all faiths have a dooms day, most scientists agree that life will end for different reasons,
will it end probably, why depends on what you believe,

Not that it's all about 'me' but um it is all about me. It can't end because I am going to Las Vegas for Christmas and if the world ends I can't go.
So it just cannot end, all worries over!

You've been taken in by Jose Arguelles.

To start with the Mayan calendar is not a monolithic entity but rather a group of different calendars each with their own issues and inaccuracies. The Long Count calendar specifically, the one involved in this prediction, is simply going to need a new digit added after 12/21/2012. That's all this is about. Did the world end on 12/31/999? No we just simply started using an extra digit for the year. Same thing here.

That 2012 date is a bit soon for my liking, I was hoping the world would end after I'm dead.

The world was supposed to end 1975.

Also- when a bunch of applebee zombies waited for a flying saucer in San Diego.

is this all something to do with "Nanunake" or some such returning from outer space for their gold?

sure thats meant to be 2012 too.

naturally, I'm planning my entire life around the certainty of such occurrences - and would advise you to do the same.

To avoid confrontation with the NanuNanus (or was that Mork? he seemed like a nice chap) please send all your gold to me for safekeeping, at

As has already been mentioned, the Mayan calander ends on 12/21/2012...well..the current calander anyway, not the actual world...although, we've always found it a bit interesting here since my Sir's birthday is 12/21......we've already started planning a rather huge party for that day in 2012......

I recall the Harmonic Convergence when people gathered at a rock formation in Sedona  called Bell Rock which was evidently an ancient spacecraft that was to take off  then.

Actually the Mayan calendar on Dec. 21 2012 will be,IIRC, 19.19.19.17.19 which is the Mayan's odd base 20 numbering system. So the next day would simply be 1.0.0.0.0.0. Which is just exactly analogous to the Dec 31 999 transition to Jan 1 1000.
