Honestly, I compartmentalize my sexuality a bit more than many people do. I am more than capable of spanking someone at a party after just meeting him and walking away after the aftercare a happy gal. I do not need to be deeply emotionally involved with someone to enjoy mild topping or domination.
My photography involves a certain amount of intimacy with people and vulnerability on their part, which is erotic and can be "dominant" when I am photographing a submissive who interacts with me personally as a submissive. On the other hand, I also photograph dominants and vanilla-folk and I try to get into their eros, which requires flexibility and imagination, and a lot of personal growth on my part. Photographing a top, trying to capture the submissive perspective on their "topness", is as close as I get to bottoming. There are times when I literally have to interact verbally with the model to bring out their playful side. I'll spare the details! [;)] But I cannot afford to be blind to the beauty and powerful of a male or female dominant just because I am not a "sub". I have to get into the headspace sometimes and just be human, and an artist, without being ruled by my personal ego.
Since my ego has its own zip code, this is a challenge needless to say. But art is worth it. [:D]
All this being said, there is a huge barrier to intimacy that goes beyond a certain allowed extent with strangers. This is the realm where we get outside of my relationship with other people, their bodies and their fantasies, and get into the Land of Me. Being truly intimate with someone is not something I do on a casual basis, nor would I expect someone to allow me the greatest intimacy on a casual basis. I definitely think there are important and beautiful things that are reserved for special people, and deeper relationships. And no, those things will not happen during casual play or one-night stands.
