Hmmmm....I am of the opinion that many people here are a bit harsh regarding this subject in general. Certainly we all receive some pretty ridiculous email, but that's what you get for putting yourself on such a highly public forum. More wheat means more chaff. If you don't like someone's email, delete it. If they persist, block them. This thread started out in an interesting manner, but when people began posting whole letters from people, I believe it descended into one of those whines like whether someone leaves the toilet seat up or down. Yes, people send "generic" mail and "form letters", but the two posted here seem generally harmless -- the one posted by sub4hire borders on dumb, but not as outrageous as many my sub friends receive. In general, what do people expect? Stats on personals sites, even in the vanilla world, show that fewer than 1% of male letters to females are replied to at all, so it seems natural that people who write long missives that go unreplied will sooner or later just try a "shotgun" approach because they feel like they are wasting their time when they know most of their mail will never even get a response at all no matter what they write. Is a "shotgun" approach any better? Probably not, as it would seem that if you write something intelligent and get nothing back you aren't going to get any better results with lesser methods, but can you blame these people for trying? We all know there is no perfect formula for meeting someone so that means lots of mail and lots of approaches -- some brilliant and some stupid, most just uninteresting. Yes, I am well aware that women of any description get flooded with mail, but again, is this a surprise? We all know how this process works and that means everyone gets the whole sweet Bell Curve of responses. Ultimately, all these guys are doing is looking for someone and as long as they are neither crude nor disrespectful it seems that slamming them, regardless of the sophistication of their approach, seems needlessly catty and childish. Just my two cents. John
