Dear Ladies and subs <3,

Maybe its just me but for a long time now whenever I see a profile or get a message from someone and they come with the label Switch. Or "dom/sub to the right person" I've always just gotten the sinking feeling that they just enjoy kinky sex. Now I know this is probably very wrong but I can't help how many of other doms and subs get that impression by the very debatable term of 'Switch'.

What do you think when you hear the term Switch?

When I get an email from a switch, my immediate feeling is that it wouldn't work for me. I don't have a submissive bone in my boy, so I think that there would always be a part of the switches needs that would be unmet.

Pretty much the same thing I think when I hear the term "bi-sexual": someone who has the mental and emotional flexibility to experience and enjoy both sides of an equation.  Frankly, I sort of envy their flexibility....

Maybe you should just be thinking versatile instead. There are people that think that bisexuals are confused and don't know which gender they prefer. I tend to think switches have the best of both worlds and that a bisexual switch gets to treat themselves often. It's not about kinky sex, it's about being able to relate to people and meet your/their needs whether domming or subbing.

I consider myself a switch and I do enjoy being a bottom. However when approached by switches I think I feel a little intimidated since I am so new and not completely sure of myself yet.

If your refuse to consider a person, merely because of the very word 'switch', then you many really be missing out.  Personally, I am a switch because I am bisexual.  I am submissive to my husband, but dominant with any females that we have involvement with... be they slave, play partner or poly girlfriend.  So, the way I see it, if you don't bother to find out *why* the person switches, then you may be coming to a conclusion that is incorrect.  The person may be perfectly capable of meeting your needs as well as their own if in the right relationship/s.  Of course, I guess if you are only seeking mono in for yourself and your partner, I guess that does shed a different light on it all.

I think of the things my Mama used to go get to whip me with.   But I agree with others statements...I think of someone who is flexable enough to enjoy both sides of this lifestyle.  I know alot of good switches..and they are not just players looking for kinky sex.

Being monogamous and submissive, I just know I'm not compatible because they would have needs I couldn't meet. Same as when I was approached by a bisexual, he would need others to be happy and I don't do poly or open relationships.

But in general the word evokes flexible, someone less rigid than I.

I think, "hmmm that person is a switch." I don't have any negative association with switching.

It depends on the person using the term and what I am looking for at the time.
I find switches to be very fun to play with.
I have a friend who is a switch but also an owned slave - to his Master he is a slave- end of story - but his master allows him to have submissives and own slaves so there is no conflict of interest.  If my friend is with one of his subs/friends/slaves (whoever) and his Dom calls, he answers and if ordered, he leaves.. no matter what kind of plans he may have had because at the end of the day, he is an owned slave and lives the part.

So its not so much the label "switch" as it is the attitude and agenda of the person using it.

I am a Switch. I am Bi-Sexual. I am a slave. I am a Domme. I like men and women equally. The rush of submitting to the right person is divine. The thrill of dominating exquisite. The taste of a woman upon my lips sweet. Kneeling at a Dominants feet humbling.

I think it is all about experiences. Being that I love men and women equally, I would hate to label myself as heterosexual or lesbian because then I am denying myself the pleasure of what is attractive to me. The same goes for Switch. Even if I am in a relationship that is closed, I would be okay with it. because it is a choice that I make. The dynamics of any relationship(s) develop over time and can change. Sometimes its best to go with the flow.

I used to consider myself a switch in the sado masachism/ dominant and submissive sense as I liked  both but back then I was very new.

Now I am more experienced Im definatly sadistic and dominant!

I did the submissive thing as more of an experiment, testing the ground and also because of the man I was with. (18 and madly in love with an older dominant guy who I would have done anything for. Ha! Young, dumb and with a man who was way to full of cum  )

I (taken from personal experience) think that its a sign of confusion on the 'switchs'  part and it puts me off.

Im not saying that all switches are like that but thats how I take it from how I was when I started out.

See, this makes perfect sense to me.  Its good to hear from another person that is capable of both dominance and submission.

I can be a bit of a maso at times, not as much as I am sadistic but I do like a certain amount of pain at the right times.
I have never labeled myself a switch because to me that implies that I can submit.
I can't.
I can dominate and I like a bit of pain, but submission is unnatural to me.

just speaking for myself as a switch,  i wouldn't expect a Domme or sub to switch roles. i would go into it knowing what role i'd stay in.

Thank you Psy.

I have been in the lifestyle for over 10 years. So its not inexperience that has me saying I am a switch. It is the reality of who I am.

You are welcome Morgainne.

It is always good to know who you are and what you can do.

I know what I cannot do and I wouldn't want to mislead anyone.  Can I bottom for a time?  Sure, with someone of my choosing.  Can I submit?  Absolutely not.

What I can and can't do doesn't make me better or worse than anyone else, just makes me who I am.
I get a sense of that same kind of knowledge from you.

I think that switches get the same bad rap that bisexuals do.

I have nothing but respect for people who are honest about wanting to switch because I know that stating that can result in people looking down on them. I remember when the switches group got started at TES and how much crap the founders got from some people.

Being a switch does not make one any less serious or reliable. My own slave is a switch; he just doesn't switch with me and frankly I think it makes him a good major domo and a delightful top to watch.

That said, he isn't a dominant. He is a switch because he loves to top for bondage scenes almost as much as bottom for them. But Ds wise he is a submissive who serves as a slave to me. When he scenes with others as a top they know he is my slave and the good scenes he creates for him and his bottom are both beautiful to watch and wonderful to hear about when folks praise him to me. In fact, I think part of my pleasure in owning Fox is that he could top with ease but he kneels only to me.

While I hate to admit it, I often feel the same way. I know in my head, and even have some relationships, where the person defers to me because they feel that energy with me, but some habits are hard to undo. I'm working on it. Every time I say, "What we do does not always define who we are," I'm saying it as much for my benefit as theirs.
