'Dog' Chapman sorry for using N-word
By JAYMES SONG, Associated Press WriterThu Nov 1, 12:21 AM ET

Television bounty hunter Duane "Dog" Chapman apologized Wednesday for repeatedly using a racial slur in a profanity-laced tirade during a private phone conversation with his son that was recorded and posted online.

Chapman, star of A&E's hit reality series "Dog the Bounty Hunter," responded after The National Enquirer posted a clip of the conversation in which Chapman uses the N-word in reference to his son's girlfriend.

A&E officials did not immediately return phone messages seeking comment from The Associated Press. Chapman issued a statement apologizing for the comments.

I agree with Camille that Dog has been wholly insensitive towards his son and that's what brought his dirty little secret into the open.

This woman may turn out to be the mother of his grandchildren. Will he still use the word then?

You can't take the money that comes with celebrity without accepting that the public then have an interest in your private life - and only a fool doesn't know that sections of the media will feed them the stories.

What's worse, on listening to the call, it's clear he can understand what's wrong with using it, he's just too lazy to adjust to that knowledge. He knows it isn't the equivalent of "cracker" or "honky".  Can you conceive any excuse for casually spouting the word in front of his son's girlfriend and expecting her to accept it?

Back to the OP, though, bountyhunters are effective simply BECAUSE they're not hamstrung as much as the "conventional forces" police. Otherwise, why bother putting a bounty out on these animals in the first place? Keep that money inside the law-enforcement community!

The law empowering bounty hunters in no way, shape or form makes them LEOs. For example, they can't run blue lights, etc, because they don't have the training or status to do so.
They are not exempt from existing weapons laws ( i.e. they cannot carry an illegal sawed off).
They don't need search warrants, because they aren't acting  for the government searching for evidence in a criminal prosecution, they are returning an individual to custody.

And they typically don't carry a court ordered arrest warrant, they act as an ordinary citizen.
In fact, the courts have ruled that the minute someone steps outside of the role of private citizen, and acts for the government, Miranda et al. must apply.

God forbid us godly americans should have to have anything to do with another language, even something as simple as listening to a 2 second section of a voice recording.  How dare people inflict culture on us!  I demand we stay singular, unadulterated, unintelligent, unknowledgable fools about other countries, culture and people!
We are SO far behind the times and other countries as far as really integrating quality education, culture and language in our country and education, I think this whiney complaint misses the point that we are teaching our kids ignorance, intolerance and limiting their opportunities with our supremicist attitudes.
Seriously, I'm sorry your friends were "gunned down", however, you seem to have enough intelligence to understand that a few violent hispanics do not make a world of them, anymore than a few violent americans make a country of hatemongers. We are paying this price as americans right now, everyday, because of such stereotypes. Obviously not all hispanics enter this country to commit crimes, that's just ridiculous hatred stemming apparently from personal trauma.  Racism is unintelligent dogma, let it go.

You talk about education, but remember, in America, education takes money, teachers--and all other occupations--are paid more. (This is a prime reason that the foreigns invade our country) BUT every moment we waste trying to teach English to unwilling foreigns is a moment we COULD spend teaching something useful. As a result America's education system is dumbed down to let the foreigns pass, otherwise the foreign-infested schools lose Federal funding (And we CERTAINLY can't ask the invaders' home-countries to foot the bill for their re-education, can we? How rude of us evil, evil Americans to ask foreigns to pay their own way!) Gifted programs have been cut to 10% of their former funding (Don't worry, they weren't getting paid much anyways!)
By contrast, in China and other countries we are falling behind, the compulsory education thing is "adjusted" so that those who fail, get to go to lesser schools, aimed at lower occupations. China has taken 2 professors from our University alone to help them learn English--and the kids are actually anxious to learn! (In the news last night, they claimed that China has more English speakers than the USA! While PART of that could be their higher population and the Law of Averages, it could also be that our "all cultures are equal" BS has reduced the value of learning English and assimilation, PLUS a few million--the number varies between 12 MILLION and 40 MILLION--illegals...)
Racism is often bandied about to squelch this sort of reasoning, but Americ is losing precisely BECAUSE we cater to other countries' rejects who abruptly decide that they don't even "need" to learn our language--but they still want our money/goods/foreign-aid! I agree with you that racism is unintelligent and dogmatic, but let us instead call this NATIONALISM...
There is even an Hispanic organization ALLEGEDLY dedicated to rooting out illegals--they want to police themselves(?)--called "You Don't Speak For Me"
Even if it IS a hoax, it's a well-articulated hoax, about LEGAL immigrants who believe their neighborhoods and/or reputations have been ruined by the hijinx of the ingrate illegals, www.dontspeakforme.org
Since America is paying these other countries, what's wrong with them spending some of that money to learn English--or taking taxpayer-subsidized "English as a Second Language" classes (Or like aforementioned China, they could learn English, since that is de-facto the international language, and/or just to earn more money--or should we just pay them for being foreign and bringing "culture" in exchange for our First World "benefits" and "technology", especially in the field of MEDICINE?!)
Our schools were being dumbed down back in the 1970's, I know you weren't around back then..The teachers began to emphasize feeling good about oneself over learning. Telling Johnny that he did a goooood job sliding down the slide and no his math test wasn't wrong but there could have been a better answer. There were classes like 'Me, Myself & I' which focused on nothing but telling the kids they were all special and all good.Children earned grades not through merit, but because it could damage them if they didn't pass. BTW, are you aware just how racist and negative you come across as? I ask that seriously because you may not realise it.  Editional: (combo of edit and added) I think that while he did have a viewing audience there are a lot that disliked him since the Mexico incident. He was wrong in that whole thing. I don't remember enough of the details but I do remember he was wrong lol. Helpful huh.I personally never liked his program, too condescending and far too much machismo of the bad kind. His sons gf probably isn't happy over this either. One of my thoughts was since it was a phone call with his son, that he son is the one that brought it to the press. He may feel bad about it but it was so casually said by him that I think it is just his mentality.

If the reported premise is correct, that he was saying to his son, 'Don't date a black person because I used the 'N' word so much, and it would look bad if that got out', he was pretty much asking to be outed. (Karmically speaking).

I admit to being negative, but I don't think of myself as racist. Remember, the Internet (Insert Al Gore joke here), telephone, television, and in large part, radio are American inventions...But the next time Hispanic "Heritage" Month is declared, pay attention to every time it appears on TV or radio...or people having conversations in other languages on their cellphones...Then turning around and saying they don't need America(ns), but we somehow OWE them. I'd take that somewhat seriously if they weren't using OUR technology (Our "heritage" if you will!) to push their arrogant message. Or, let them live in America, but keep them at third-world conditions until their attitude becomes more...supplicant! Or at least have them resign themselves to being second-class citizens (and in MILLIONS of cases, NON-citizens) until they assimilate...If denied access to Internet, phone, TV, radio, and cellphones, how fast do you think they'd lose their blind faith in their "culture"'s superiority?
They wanna stay third-worlders? Great! Please do! But don't demand the same luxuries and conveniences--and especially MONEY--we First Worlders have!

P.S.Next time you go to the ER, watch how many people who can't speak English (Not necessarily illegals, but a good indicator) are making it standing-room-only!

No, he's calling her a "whore" and worse because she objected to him using the word. He says that he doesn't mind him dating her and that when he uses the word he doesn't mean it like some do, to imply "that they have no souls, and stuff" (in his own words). It's probably still on TMJ.com if you can stand to listen.

He doesn't mention Mexico.

Won't argue with that. Although it is quite amusing when he says"If the National Enquirer gets a-hold of this, I'm a-finished"!

So would that put this in the category of "staged publicity stunt"?

yeah yeah all the ills of our country are caused by hispanics!  There, happy?  How could one possibly think such a thing was true that posessed a brain?
All kidding aside, yes, in fact you are racist, extremely racist even.  I'm done with attempting to carry on an intelligent discourse with you, you lack the requisite mentality to do so obviously.  I can only hope some day you require a life saving operation and one of the very hispanics you spit on is the one that has to perform your surgery, because you see, there are many many valuable hispanic members of our country.

edited to add:  by the way you're wrong about bounty hunters, they are private citizens of incredibly limited powers or value and subject to the same laws every other private citizen is.

Epgah,
The standing room is caused by them getting hurt on the job when mowing our lawns and doing the hard labor we pay them to do but dont provide decent wages and medical insurance....

Ah, that's part of the illegal bargain: They CHOOSE to come over, and due to their illegal status, they can't very well bargain for the same wages and benefits as we do...They take advantage of the fact that Federal law mandates hospitals provide emergency care to ALL, regardless of ability to pay or not. The Federal government DOES NOT, however, pay for all of it (They DO pay for some, but because of the deficit, the ER on the north side of town has shut down)
And laurell, we DO have valuable Hispanics, just as we have valuable members of any LEGAL immigrant group...However, like any sovereign country, we deserve the right to keep a common language, and a set of standards. If they don't like our standards and/or language, they are free to leave, or not to come in in the first place!
A recent customer was an officer in the Navy...He and his shipmates captured a stowaway. Rather than simply toss it overboard, they let the stowaway work in exchange for room&board. Oddly, the stowaway did NOT try to demand anything more...perhaps because there was only ONE stowaway? How many stowaways can America support?

There is a perfect example of the after effects of a poor choice of words.  A&E doesn't want to get caught up in the shitstorm, so they quickly seperated themselves from any possible backlash.  I wonder if Fox will pick up his show?  They don't care who they offend

It never ceases to amaze me how, when a post touches on a racial subject, the string so easily veers off to other subjects (like Mexicans and bounty hunters), so many whites don't or won't acknowledge that race is not like everything else, and so few blacks participate in the discussion.

Calling somebody a nigger is not a "poor choice of words"!  It's a racial slur.  And it's not a racial slur like "honky."

It's a slur that's on a level all its own.

Where in the hell are the black people on CM?

In this case I don't think discussing the bounty hunter aspect is departing from the topic, it is part and parcel of his identity. It also brought in the Mexican bits from his history, I think it is hard to separate all of that in regards to that man.

As I said before, Chris Rock makes a CAREER off racism, INCLUDING the use of the word "nigger", although he uses it more as a cattleprod, an example of what good black people should AVOID becoming, so as to evade the stereotype...It's almost like he listened to Samuel Clement's advice, paraphrased to: "If you don't like a stereotype, make sure it doesn't describe YOU, it will hit with DOUBLE force on the next person it DOES describe!"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=peoffYMIqXg
Some people in this thread and others have taken exception to my stereotypes of illegals, however, they probably don't live where walking versions of these stereotypes influence their day-to-day life--yet!

P.S. for a funny side-note about "The N Word", check out the thread: http://www.collarchat.com/m_1333299/mpage_4/key_/tm.htm#1382504

If one is going to be in jeopardy for using the N word, then I demand equal time for those that use the words honky, cracker and m***fkr.  Toss in a little sensitivity training while they are at it too.
