As I said before, Chris Rock makes a CAREER off racism, INCLUDING the use of the word "nigger", although he uses it more as a cattleprod, an example of what good black people should AVOID becoming, so as to evade the stereotype...It's almost like he listened to Samuel Clement's advice, paraphrased to: "If you don't like a stereotype, make sure it doesn't describe YOU, it will hit with DOUBLE force on the next person it DOES describe!"

Some people in this thread and others have taken exception to my stereotypes of illegals, however, they probably don't live where walking versions of these stereotypes influence their day-to-day life--yet!

P.S. for a funny side-note about "The N Word", check out the thread: http://www.collarchat.com/m_1333299/mpage_4/key_/tm.htm#1382504

That`s not true about Rock.Only the un-sophisticated will view his act as racist.He`s making a career off of the mess called racism,but he`s no racist.

As to others taking you to task,over illegals,you stand and fall,by your own words.The flack,or praise is usually deserved.

There are some that would view this clip as racist.But it`s not.It pokes fun at our situation and how fucked up it all is.

Enjoy one of Dave Chappell`s takes, on racism.

I haven't a clue what happiness your people derived from sheep but how you can call Jena "ancient history" - since that is what I was referring to - is a mystery to me.  And if you divorce yourself from the last two bloody centuries so totally, why is it you are happy to stand on that side of the argument?

You mentioned sensitivity training but are clearly in need of some yourself. Rosa Parks is not a figure of ancient history, she's still warm in her grave. Not til the "end of time", but til the end of discrimination. No country which habitually infringes the rights of a minority should reckon itself so highly. Do the words "Florida" and "Bush" ring any bells?

I have no doubt you'll come back with another example of your myopic and trite rhetoric so let me leave you with something you may un-der-stand: "Two wrongs don't make one right".

Nope.  Because I'm sick of  of it.  In case you missed it all.. racisim is practiced by EVERY race.. even if it is unintentional.  It's time to quick scab-picking and let things heal.  No one can change the past.

edited to add... being female, we (women of ANY color)  are pretty much below any other minority on the feeding chain in society. So, cry me a river.

Can't change the past, but we don't have to forget it either... ignoring current racism isn't going to make it go away, and the ease with which people like Chapman employ a particularly racist term is not a scab, it is a wound.

Not calling him on it would just be giving tacit permission for other forms of such behavior.

popeye1250 -> RE: Dog the Bounty Hunter & the "N" word (11/3/2007 9:16:31 AM)

I tried to watch that show one time but couldn't get past about 15 minutes of it.
I mean they're dressed up like Circus performers with tattoos all over themselves!
How the hell do they catch anyone? You can see them comming a mile away!
The term "White Trash" comes to mind.
And, I didn't realise that "illegal alien" was a "race."
I don't care which "race" someone is, if they're here illegally they need to leave. Period.
They can go back to their own countries and discuss "race."
Someone's "race" is a moot point if they're in a country illegally.
Being of Irish descent I'd arrest and deport the Illegal Irish first, just to set the example.
I could never understand why anyone would want to be somewhere where they're not wanted.

Lotus - It's interesting and sadly predictable, that rather than face up to the issue which is being discussed, you have moved the argument onto what you consider a more important one. You are putting yourself beyond the reach of most of the people with whom you are electing to interact by using this board. That strikes me as a perverse choice. Why should anybody listen to you or consider seriously what you have to say if you are unwilling to do the same?

I don't hold out much hope but perhaps it might help you to read what others who formerly held your position have had to say

camille65 -> RE: Dog the Bounty Hunter & the "N" word (11/3/2007 9:55:39 AM)

Interesting read RL. There was some that I agreed with but I have to say there was also a lot that I did not agree with. But it was interesting and I have the feeling it will change the way I see mundane things. popeye, your post made me laugh. I too wonder how they manage to sneak up on the perps wearing all their leather gear etc.As to why someone would want to be where they weren't wanted? Hmm maybe it is because they want to be there, even if no one else wants them too?

popeye1250 -> RE: Dog the Bounty Hunter & the "N" word (11/3/2007 10:10:02 AM)

Camille, that's the point, it really doesn't matter what they "want."

What is your definition of dicussion?  Just one view point where everyone agrees with you?  I've given up hope. I never expect anyone to agree with me.  You chose to play the race card.. I countered with the gender card.  That is one that never gets "equalized".

LotusSong -> RE: Dog the Bounty Hunter & the "N" word (11/3/2007 10:38:22 AM)

But back to the OP.. Dog got screwed by his own flesh and blood. I wonder if the whole thing was orchestrated by his son out of hate for him knowing his preudices or was it just a money issue being he sold the story for a tidy sum?  Then I'm wondering if his girlfriend wasn't just a pawn in all of it?  This hydra has a lot of heads.

RealityLicks -> RE: Dog the Bounty Hunter & the "N" word (11/3/2007 10:50:36 AM)

Err...  I think you'll find that Chapman played the "race card" - as you call it - and that that is the subject of this thread. Its hard to imagine how to react to a story about a celebrity using a racist term without talking about race.

Chapman didn't use a sexist term but a racist one.

And I do agree with you about one thing; there has indeed been a sickeningly long history of sexism. However, in my mind, that doesn't justify the separate evil of racism. That's why I linked to a feminist text about racism - have you read it?

popeye1250 -> RE: Dog the Bounty Hunter & the "N" word (11/3/2007 10:52:32 AM)

And I'm surprised that anyone would be "surprised" that this "Dog" guy would use the n word.

RealityLicks -> RE: Dog the Bounty Hunter & the "N" word (11/3/2007 11:16:31 AM)

But isn't that another form of stereotyping?

Yes, I did.  Thank you :)

De nada.

Gotta go, Dog the Bounty Hunter is about to start.

There is a perfect example of the after effects of a poor choice of words.  A&E doesn't want to get caught up in the shitstorm, so they quickly seperated themselves from any possible backlash.  I wonder if Fox will pick up his show?  They don't care who they offend[:D]

It never ceases to amaze me how, when a post touches on a racial subject, the string so easily veers off to other subjects (like Mexicans and bounty hunters), so many whites don't or won't acknowledge that race is not like everything else, and so few blacks participate in the discussion.

Calling somebody a nigger is not a "poor choice of words"!  It's a racial slur.  And it's not a racial slur like "honky."

It's a slur that's on a level all its own.

Where in the hell are the black people on CM?

Ok, well I'm not a black person, however, you are correct.  Chappman is a racist fool and his use of that paticular language is intolerable even in a private conversation to his son.

We did allow one outspoken bigot to derail the thread, however, I would suggest to you that "mexicans" being discriminated against is equally as unacceptable as racism against african americans.

I never believe in absolutes, except this one, there is no possible positive spin one can put on racism/sexism or any other form of mass discrimination that would ever make me believe it was acceptable or remotely intelligent behavior.

OP,
I didn't get to hear the tape on CNN regarding Dog's convo but one of my friends told me about it, I'm not shocked that he uses the word, nor do I believe that he's "sorry" for using (saying) it, however I do believe that he's sorry he got "caught" saying "Nigger".

After reading this entire thread all I have to say is;
In my age I am really frustrated with most Human Beings!
This thread makes me sick of you humans...Human Beings
are the most self-rightious, self-centered, ignorant, wasteful,
hate filled creatures!! [:'(]

Thank the Great Spirit we reside with animals, who teach
us our need to respect the earth and all that reside here,
and that there is really nothing more important than love
and compassion.

Sometimes I wish all us humans, were wiped cleaned off
the planet so it and the animals would have an opportunity
to be free to heal.

Missy.

What bothers me most is that even what a person says in private to family is now being held accountable.  It reminds me of a bumpersticker that reads "Bush is listening.. use small words".  What's next?  The thought police?

SeeksOnlyOne -> RE: Dog the Bounty Hunter & the "N" word (11/4/2007 6:16:29 AM)

i know this gonna get me in trouble-and maybe someone can change my mind on how i see things....who knows......

i think someone can use  disparaging words about folks and not be a racist or an asshole or have some hidden agenda......just as words to show contempt for a particular person or event or situation.....

sticks and stones....blah blah blah

i have so much more i could type, but i reckon that bout says it all in a nutshell

edited cuz the font looked like baby poop
