Another thing, kind of along the line of what Erin said.

For me alot of it is in the attitude of the person I will, or will not, do something for. If someone expects me to do it, or demands me to do it, I probably won't. Especially if it is something I do not enjoy doing, and even then I might bite off my nose to spite my face, so to speak.

I love doing things for people that do not expect it and are genuinely appreciative. It's when someone thinks it is somehow owed to them that I get totally turned off and will just walk away.

You know, I couldn't have said it better myself!  This is about how I see things also.  When the nice things I do are taken for granted, then I pull back and stop doing them.

My pet is not particularly service oriented so when he cooks for me at night or when does other household things, I know that he is really trying to make me happy.
When I'm doing the laundry, I don't think of it as being submissive.. I think that I am too damn picky about other people doing my laundry and one of these days I'll have to get over it...lol

I call it being who you are.

My hubby calls it "submitting to someone else".  It apparently bothers him, and it irritates me that it bothers him.  Its an issue we're still walking around.

See, that is the attitude of the owners of the subbie friends i was talking about. I tend to think it reflects the dominants insecurity or lack of trust or simple jealousy.

Keep working on it though, glad to hear he is willing to talk about it with you.

Hey there are those that call going to work "submitting to someone else."  I suppose if you adhere to the laws of your government, you are also "submitting to someone else."

I say you know when you're submitting or not;  You feel it in your heart.

My thoughts exactly. There is a huge difference between doing something for a friend, male or female, and submitting to them.

The word service like service slave reminds me of drudgery.    Doing something I really dislike doing.    I think when it comes to chores and such---the service orientated things, I sort of like it when it equals out.   I had partner who cooked often because he liked to---and even made coffee before I got up.   He felt like it and wanted to and it did not imo make him any less Dominant.   I think sometimes people get so caught up in the 'fantasy' that the fantasy rules the thought process.   Submissives always tend to the 'girl' chores and he does the man chores but only if it is way to 'manly' for the submissive to do.   For me, it's I'll wash dishes if you take the car to the garage because the smell of a repair shop makes me gag.   But he is still capable of washing the dishes if I am throwing up after hanging around waiting for my oil to be changed.
I loved the little bird story Twice---I am extremely afraid of birds and would never allow one in my house but their antics are very cute and they are fascinating creatures---just do not put one near me without the protection of a padlocked cage.    Birds to me are very Dominant---if one got in my house and was flying around loose, I'd let him have it.   If he was in a cage however, some other submissive would have to give him his newspaper and saucy noodles because getting that close to him would be a very hard limit.
