Just curious about whether there really is such a thing as a typical Domme/Dom. I was a member of another site (not as good as this one though!.) and was called a typical Dom by a sub who noticed how......"lean" My profile was. She said this in a fun, teasing way but I still felt she was a bit serious and that made Me think about how/why the whole "Typical" Domme/Dom. thing is used.

So.....what does anyone think.? Btw is it a way of very carefully having a go at someone for some reason, and therefore, being called typical is something to be avoided.?

*chuckle* When I forst got into BDSM in a formal sense, after My internship as a submissive, I decided I'd try the "typical Domme" image. You know, tall, dark, silent, lean, moustache, enough leather to keep three cows warm...

Mind you, I'm 5'2" was pretty chunky then (now I'm downright fat!) Female (no, the moustache wasn't happening!) and who the Hell could afford leather?! That and the cute little giggle I couldn't suppress torpedoed the Castro Clone image pretty quick.

So now I go for the Satanic Fuzzball image. Cute, cuddly, curvaceous, clawed. Little peeks of wickedness shining through layers of adorable!
Kitten with a whip.

What sort of Dom/me inage do others here put forth?

Lady Sonelle "Awwwwww-OW!"

Not really.

You have the stereotypes- the insecure dork who can't get laid otherwise, the overbearing brat, the lazy freeloader, the white knight, the rock star, etc.

But they are each just people, doing what works for them, just like vanilla folks. Each has their own style, values, priorities, that you have to see what works for you.

It's interesting you should use the term "Typical" on this site? Of all those I've corresponded with, or got into discussions with here, none are at all typical! I would guess that who ever was funning with you was just trying to nice; just being sure they didn't offend you. BTW--I would come here to ask for advice about anything on any subject! It seems to me ppl here got both feet planted on the ground more so than on other sites.

i think Your second comment is more to the point,,,it is sort of a mild put-down when someone says You are a typical anything. They are linking You together with "a bunch" that are all alike. In a way saying...You are not unique...You are just like all the rest. Especially if it is about something negative..like in Your case a "lean profile". Yet typical can also be used about something positive as well. Except i have never really heard it used that way!!!??? hmmm thanks HalloweenWhite...food for thought.....You are not typical... heh...take that you lean profile person!

Smiles..... Generalizations are the Mother of much misunderstanding.

The only thing I can see amoung individuals to be entirely "typical" is breathing and pumping blood.

I think she meant it like 'strong, silent type' and that it was a compliment. While I don't think there is such a thing as a typical dominant alot of dominant share certain qualities. I don't see why you would want to avoid someone seeing dominant qualities in you. Also have you given a moment to think that maybe she is not good at expressing herself and was trying to flirt with you? :P

Dress wise will depend exactly what I feel like wearing. I am the happiest in uniform (hell I’ve worn one most of my life anyway) and I prefer to wear black and always have. If I want to dress up a little I’d be seen in black combat pants, jump boots, black short sleeved uniform shirt and duty belt minus sidearm. I’d add the odd thingie like a Gorean slave whip and a coup-le or three meters of chain as a leash. I have long hair which is tied back and I usually have feathers tied in it any way so that wouldn’t change. Or I may wear fringed black pants with silver conchos down the side or even go with the black suit. Who knows I could even wear a chain mail shirt.. Sort of depends where I’m going and what I’m doing. I'm 6'4" 300lbs brooding celt anyway and I prefer to sit and watch rather than be the centre of attention.

Tarn Sarn it! lol. No I didnt think of that.....I -was- being a bit flirty with her though-she was tall and had dark hair so I really wanted to say hello. She was nice, but we quickly parted cos I realised how cheeky I was being.

Maybe Ill go back to the site one day and see if she remembers being bugged by Me......lol.

LadySonelle, I just spit My coffee as I read your response, HOORAY! Moustache? I didn't see a cigar mentioned--smiles, yes I'm often told I look like the girl next door, I work in shorts, tank top and barefoot or black jeans, heels and top---not the typical Domme, so what's the typical Domme? ---and I agree with EmeraldSlave2-- there are stereotypes--as I was once asked why arent you a Leather clad bitch from hell--what makes you think Im not? LOL----that's why I love this life so much because we are FREE to be what we can and want to be--its what's comfortable for you the person-- I believe a Dominant carries it off anytime anywhere, same with a good sub--She says as She places one manicured bare foot on his butt, waxes Her moustache and puffs on Her cuban--cigar that is----and throws away yet another cock picture with--"I want to please you" scrawled in crayon---

Sounds to me like something I say when I'm teasing a guy ... "you are such a typical male" normally delivered with a wink (winks are harder to do online though LOL)

In reality though, there is no such thing as a "typical" Dominant ... or typical anything really, when it comes to humans - too much variety.

I think Emerald is right on track here. I would suggest there are certain archetypes that we all come to know after meeting enough people in the scene. Screw the Roses....has a very humorous page where they attempt to quantify them. And this in many ways makes sense as we learn how to behave in the scene from those who we observe. Certainly one hopes that each person bring some sort of flair to the situation but it is very common to meet some one and after 5 mintues think to yourself "I just met her but I know "that" girl"

Personally I shy away from the leatherd up Dom look and go with what I think simply looks good. Although it usually has a fetishy bent to it. I also try as hard as I possibly can to not end up wearing all black. I know "that" Dom and I am trying to be different

Ofcourse on broad strokes, we all fit into chategories, well most of us do, several ones, or type, our star an sun signs, our general outlook of things, all chategories, but it is the chategories together that makes the person.

Typical Domme/Dom...what is that, ..if being told you were born screaming for control and tried to get it ecery day of your life then yes i guess I am....If the way you dress signifies typical then now...I am elegant well tailored clothes black trousers jackets and yes the low cut top that gives a glimpse of the magic...Hell I would prefer jeans and a tee black of course...I am comfortable in trousers...a dress and me no way in hell, even if it was leather and anyway I hate wearing leather...I find it uncomfortable...so typical I think not....

Obviously, there is a "typical DOm/me" - it's somebody that is a bit more Dom/me than sub... typically...

Is there a typical dominant? No
Is being called a typical dominant to be avoided? You're a dom, why do you care? People will have their opinions, what counts is your opinion of yourself.
I think your friend was hinting you need to say something more about yourself in your profile and you are perhaps reading way more into it than that.

Just my 2 bits on it. Take it or leave it.

Typical?! LOL! I hope I'm not typical! But then I don't think there is such a thing. Everyone has his/her own style and limits.
I definately don't like it when someone tries to put a label on you like: "Oh they are ONLY into bestiality" or they are a so-and-so type of Dom. To each his/her own I say.
