It'd be a nice change of pace.

We call you people "normies"

Maybe I should try to be a more run of the mill type domme, eh?

I just thought of another, more subtle male submissive role model last night. I think the reason it wasn't obvious at first was because it's very new.

There's a show on NBC Monday nights called Chuck, about a Best Buy analog employee who gets a head full of US national security secrets. A CIA agent is assigned to protect him, and adventure ensues. Did I mention she's a beautiful woman?

The main character is a rather normal guy, thrown into this extraordinary situation, and he has to rely on this woman to not only protect him but to learn how to adjust to this new role in life that he has to deal with. She's definetely the commanding force in the relationship. This also kind of fits into the whole male submissive "Damsel in Distress" concept that was bandied about a few weeks ago.

Oh, and another just now: On Scrubs, Elliot's ex-fiance was definetely wore the panties in that relationship. And occasionally diapers and dog collars too, if you pay attention. But he was also sensetive, attentive, eager to please and a good friend. Not too shabby a guy to take cues from.

EDIT: Damn enter key, wait your turn.

Wesley in The Princess Bride, when he was the stable boy.
As You wish

Favorite movie ever! He was so much hotter as the farm boy than he was as the Dread Pirate Roberts. His cockiness made him a turnoff, although his wit sort of helped make up for it.

These are not-so-obvious examples but ones that struck me:

How about Joy and Darnell from "My Name is Earl"?
She's a sadistic one, but so cute doing it, and Darnell happily takes whatever she dishes out because he absolutely adores her.

And also Bree and Rex Van de Kamp from "Desperate Housewives". She's a domineering uptight housewife who is ultra-conservative and her husband seeks out a dominatrix on the side because he's too afraid of how Bree will react to his kinks. There is one scene where she tosses urine all over him - in front of his golf buddies.

And he's afraid to talk to her about his fantasies why?

Silly WASPs.

Rhett Butler in Gone with the Wind.   - I know, but think about it.  He watched Scarlett go through a series of submissive men, always looking for ways to server her.

Do I see it? (Lloyd Dobler as submissive) Absolutely! One could point out his utter devotion, deference and total involvement and that is certainly evidcent throughout. But the final scene on the plane...how he used his own strength as a means to "prop her up," if you will. Clearly he was a guy of limited strengths aside from his resolve and inner fortitude. But he used these strengths in her interest. Both on the plane and when she returned to him after dumping him. He looked past whatever embarassment or pride issues he may have had was confident enough to do exactly what she needed. And he did it, of course, because he wanted to do it FOR her.
Though, to be honest, this is always how i approached vanilla relationships with women. It seems to me that a lot of what dominant women want is the simple deference, chivalry and consideration that fathers don't seem to be teaching their sons anymore.

hmmm i must say i do not have a submissive role model and the perspective brought by Aakasha and MystressDream about the weakness of porn is a large part of the explanation, that plus the fact that our media culture overall is still based on the patriarchal model it seems at times so the male submissive is never very much promoted out there.
The Spock reference mentioned by a few was intriguing i must say!
And as bilobarbe said, Mr. Slave from South Park but that guy is way too much for me (if you ever saw the "Paris Hilton" episode, lol).
So i have no model except meeeeeeeeeeee of course

I rewatched this movie last night, "Unleashed" with Jet Li, and I think that Danny, Jet Li's character, is a submissive though probably more by circumstance than nature though I think he never loses those qualities I see as some parts of a good slave -- loyalty to those who have earned it, taking care of others even at the risk to your self, and the ability to think on your feet.

Are we talking in literature, movies or real life?  If real life I think there are many examples we don't think of as submissive role models.  A man who puts his wife first in all things is a pretty great role model.  Those are pretty difficult to ennumerate because we don't really know what goes on behind closed doors.

Several presidents come to mind, and Bill Clinton is not one of them!  I also think we have real life subbie role models who run the gammut of professions.  An attorney friend of mine who worships and adores and pampers his wife comes to mind, but I would never presume to ask about their intimate relationship.  He caters to her in everything that he does.  Another fellow, an international entrepreneur, takes his pride in who and what he is by the measure of his wife's happiness and fulfillment.

I could probably list 15 such couples where the woman is really the 'dominant' partner in that her wishes and needs comprise his own measure of himself as a successful man.  While that doesn't necessarily translate to BDSM in the bedroom, I'd sure like to be a mouse in the house and take a peep to find out if my assumptions are right!

Wouldn't you?

A sterotypical one is Marcie'shusband (I don't know his name).. the neighbor's of Al and Peg on Married with Children.

Steve was the first husband and Jefferson the second, both seemed fairly submissive. IMO

How was that? i saw a trailer and thought it might have some interesting perspective D/s wise.

Ahh... Steve was the "perfect" submissive- aggressive, status-seeking, confident; his wife controlled him, but to everyone else he was pretty much a douchebag. So if i remember correctly, he ended up leaving her for a bimbo

Now i'm trying to remember... Wasn't there one episode with a really overt S&M connection between Marcie and one of her husbands, where she was dressed all Dominatrix(tm) and all? Or am i just getting confused with my Kelly Bundy fantasies?

I like it, not so much for the action sequences though there are a lot of them.

For me, I like it mostly because we see a man whose been beatened down and then we see him built back up. I can identify as a good dominant with those who build up him knowing that he may never be "normal" but willing to take him for what he is and use his loyalty in a beneficial way for everyone. It's part of my "savior fantasy" that I have to deal with in my life.

Aaah, ok, I can see that.

The whole thing about Danny being broken down by a guy who is the dictionary definition of a sadist, though...That lowers it's appeal as a metaphor for me.

Still a good movie, though.

Ack! How could I forget this television show character?

Ian Notthingham from "Witchblade: the Series" -- if you've seen it, you know exactly how much "DS" and power games are in that show.

I wish they would release that on DVD cause I only have my tapes of it with commercials and junk.

The blonde chick in Star Trek, TNG was played by Denise Cosby (what a beautiful woman...sigh), though she looks kinda butch in the imdb.com photo from ST TNG.  She played the security babe, Lieutenant Tasha Yar.

Yeah, I know, a bit too much knowledge about science fiction.
