Start by googling for BDSM or S&M groups or activities in your area. Then contact the people who run the groups and find out what is coming up. Then attend.

If you are nervous about jumping in without knowing anyone find out if there is an online group you can participate in for a little while before you attend a munch. Start with small groups and go to munches at coffee shops or restaurants first where you can talk to people and get to know them a little bit. The groups I have encountered have all been very warm and welcoming and helped me to feel at ease being new.

We were all new once and you will find that people at these types of events are so nice and just like any other group of people you will meet. It is so funny to me as I have been out in the scene for a while and have even started our local BDSM group the number of people who come in the first time and breathe a huge sigh of relief and say "you seem so normal".

I can speak for the group I am associated with. We have a yahoo board you can communicate on, we have a newcomers meeting prior to our monthly meeting where you meet in a restaurant and have a bit of an orientation...we walk you into the meeting and introduce you to regulars. We also have bi-monthly round tables for dominants and submissive respectively that meet at restaurants which is a good place for a newbie to start also.

I would check out the topic if it is an educational group...make sure the topic isn't "branding" or "extreme needles" for your first visit...LOL

Really, we are all just people who share a kink. You will like some...you won't like some...you may find the love of your life...you may not. But the only thing that is for sure...you won't know if you don't go.
