Recently I've picked up a book called "Your Pain, My Pleasure," by FifthAngel. Just in a brief reading I'm reminded of something I already knew...but thought would make a great topic...of course with my own personal spin. sadism (mainly psychiatric) the enjoyment of inflicting pain achievement of sexual gratification by inflicting pain on others gaining sexual excitement and satisfaction by watching pain inflicted by others on their victims a morbid form of enjoyment achieved by acting cruel to another, or others. (In general use) deliberate cruelty either mental or physical also applicable to the cruelty inflicted upon animals whether for sexual gratification or not. Now that I have sadism and hopefully those of you reading can make the leap to sadist... There would be cause to believe that sadist is a type of top and that not all tops are sadists because not alll tops inflict pain and uncomfort. Having stated this and knowing that position within structured power dynamic does not always reflect position within scenes... Do you as an individual believe in "sadistic s-types?" And why? I'll reply shortly with my own opinion on the subject :)

I for one do! There is such a culture of pleasure for pleasure, feeding into someone else's kink to then garner something for your own pleasure. Its always been such a skewed line here I've noticed that people go back and forth with the "what a slave is comfortable with" "Im happy when they are happy" and as much as I can attest to that myself with my chastity slave. I've always had a terrible desire to have a girl slave for the sheer purpose of tormenting, seeing no pleasure in her from the acts I commit and would reveal in the tears. Hi jen, i dont think s types can be considered sadist unless they switch. To me, a sadist inflicts pain on others, so they that would be done by a D type. Unless it`s mental pain, in which case thats a whole different story.

Thanks! lol...your post also leads to the Dominant bottom and sadistic bottom... the servant who is completely capable but totally uncomfortable to the point of tears at topping their D-type....but the D-type wants it...so many twists and turns... FA argues that a top delivers sensations that one interprets as pleasurable. FA goes on to state that he doesn't want someone who will enjoy what he does...but in the moment wishes they were else where...no matter what they consented to when they got there or how hard they'll masturbate to it afterwards. As a bottom I enjoy those types of scenes best...thinking about them...after the action...and in the moment if I weren't bound I'd prolly kill someone. :)

Sure. They really have nothing necessarily to do with eachother. An s-type simply has to do with not having authority- nothing to do with enjoying pain in another. You don't necessarily have to be topping someone to be inflicting pain in them.

Action, would an s type who enjoyed seing pain being inflicted be a sadist ? or for that to happen would one need to actually inflict the pain ? In short, does being a voyuer make one sadistic ?

I have to think, yes even as a Voyuer if your gaining some pleasure for someone else's pain. Dispite inflicting it yourself or not.

Depends on which "expert" you ask... Richard Freiherr von Krafft-Ebing one of the first professionals to use the term "sadist" in this manner, or modern srinks and the DSM

I expect we'll be hearing from Celeste on this thread anytime now. For mine own part, I see no conflict whatsoever to a slave also being a sadist. One of my absolute favorite sadists is the slave of a good friend of mine. She's particularly fond of, and expert in needlework, a favorite of mine as well. She doesn't do it just for "service." She does it because she LIKES it.

That would depend on the negotiation now wouldn't it? I know a couple of D-types would consent to a scene and their limits and that's it...they deal otherwise and indulge their need to bottom...no matter how they feel in the moment...and I'm the type to deliver...as I very much enjoy hurting people. Then there's the top from the bottom moment by moment type. Or the script from the D-type before they begin. Several different possibilities...

Indeed jen, from my own standpoint i could inflict pain if ordered to, but it doesnt come naturally.i think to be sadistic one needs to derive some pleasure from the act, whether ordered to do it or not.

I'm a sub and have been described as an "empathetic sadist". Basically I get a thrill out of watching what other subs are going through. More specifically their reactions, eg: a gasp that slips out when a crotch rope is yanked. I've never been a top before, but I suspect that the thrill would be the same. Given that I'm not a masochist that may be bad karma [:D] I really doubt that I'm a switch. While I enjoy watching these reactions, I just don't feel any need to take control.
