I inherited my house from my great grandfather. He built it as a wedding gift for my great grandmother in 1923. It really is my house. My name is on the paperwork. There is no mortgage. Under the roof resides me, my Sir, our three boys, occasionally my step son, 9 cats, 2 birds, a fish, a dog, 3 million spiders, and outside in the drainfield we have a travel trailer with two guests (actually I finally got the tractor working and yanked them out of the drainfield yesterday so now they are parked right outside my office window. Now, as to who really owns it? Do you ever REALLY own property? Or are we truly just stewards for the state? The peice of property I live on has been in my family for 163 years. I love my house and I love where I live. The house is slowly falling apart faster than I can fix things. I might have a degree in construction but my Sir doesnt always seem to realize that I just cant brace up an entire wall on my own one day during the babies nap time. I need to replace some siding, but the pattern used to mill the currrent siding isnt even made anymore, and luckily I still have friends at wayerhouser who will custom mill me however much I need for 12 cents a linear foot, but even if they were to show up tomorrow with three pallets of the stuff, once I rip off the siding thats crumbling from weather damage, the studs inside the wall are so soft they wont hold a screw anymore. And I cant replace the studs on my own. The top beams are solid still, so all I really need is a stud jack, but I dont own one, and its really not a one mom job. I did however just finish building two walls of brand new kitchen cabinets and installed a new stove on sunday. I had to move the electrical outlet for the stove and Im glad the new hole in the wall is hidden behind the stove because I didnt take the time to patch where the old outlet was. There are lots of little things like that. In my bathroom there is a nice picture hanging on my wall that is covering the hole where the old shower head was. So who really is in control of my home and how much work gets done here? Probably my UMs.......
